I write Ruby and Rails at Oddball, working on HealthCare.gov's Enroll team. I like the parts of backend work that make an application easier to run: background jobs, safer deployments, and figuring out why something broke.
When our Puma metrics weren't reaching New Relic, I ended up adding instrumentation to the Ruby agent itself. It shipped in version 10.7.0. I also reported a FIPS compatibility issue that got fixed in the agent.
Right now, I'm working through our Rails 8.1 and Ruby 4 upgrades.
Before software, I taught music. I'm based in Oklahoma.
