Unity Mono Release builds (Android, Mono2x) ship no pdb, so managed frames print at Ns.Class.Method (args) [0x0000b] in <MVID>:0 with no file:line. This takes the compiler's portable pdb, pairs it with the shipped assembly's MVID and uploads it as a BMF (Bugsee Mapping File). Closes#86.
debug-files upload --type portable-pdb <compiler-dir...> [--shipped-dir <dir>]: one upload per assembly (zip with <mvid>.bmf + manifest.json, format: "bmf").
debug-files convert --to bmf <paths> --output <dir>: writes the .bmf files locally. --to bsf is reported as not implemented.
Minimal ECMA-335 + portable-pdb reader (symbols/dotnet.rs, no assembly resolution, bounds-checked, never panics), BMF writer (symbols/bmf.rs), and a port of the original generator's signature logic (symbols/dotnet_bmf.rs).
Design, BMF format and Unity facts: docs/unity-mono-portable-pdb.md. README and --help updated.
Why --shipped-dir
With Stripping Disabled the shipped dll is byte-identical to the compiler's. With Low or higher, the linker rewrites the dll (new MVID, no CodeView, tokens renumbered) but kept methods keep their IL size and offsets. The BMF is keyed by method signature + IL offset, so the converter uses the shipped MVID as module id and drops methods that were linked away or whose IL size differs (reported in the log). The pdb is verified against the compiler dll's CodeView GUID+stamp; a mismatch is an error. Development builds are accepted too (with pdbs deleted they print <mvid>:0 as well).
Testing
cargo test (all suites), cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo fmt --check, cargo +1.88 check --all-targets: green, also from a clean checkout.
The converter's output matches the original bugsee-dotnet generator on a committed sample (21 methods), and on the Unity fixtures (Release/Disabled, Development/Disabled, Bugsee.Runtime with 1571 methods; env-gated tests).
Device frames from the Unity fixtures resolve through the worker's own ReMap with 0 unresolved and 0 mismatches in four configurations (Release/Disabled, Release/Low, Dev/Low and Dev/Disabled without pdbs).
Wiremock integration tests (tests/portable_pdb.rs): registration body, zip entries, manifest, --force, already-exists (HTTP 200 nested error), dry-run, missing pdb, flag misuse. tests/broken_files.rs: truncated/garbage dll and pdb never crash and send nothing; a 3000-round mutation fuzz sits next to the parser.
Staging (apidev): both BMFs uploaded, ready, format bmf, correct images. Reports still showed <mvid>:0 because the worker's Unity handler does not use BMF symbols; fixed in bugsee/bugsee-background-worker#143.
Rollout
Deploy bugsee/bugsee-background-worker#143 first. Integrators should raise their CLI version floor only after that is live, otherwise uploads succeed but frames stay unresolved.
Not covered (follow-ups)
e2e flow in scripts/e2e_flows.py; embedded portable pdbs (deflate, MPDB); .msym/AOT for Xamarin iOS (needs a real sample). Windows PDBs and .mdb are not planned.
- npm-publish: check out workflow_run.head_sha (the commit Release built)
rather than the tag name; dispatch still falls back to the typed tag.
- e2e mock server: cappath resolves and verifies containment in the
capture dir (the sanitizer CodeQL recognizes) instead of relying on
basename alone.

Unity Mono Release builds ship no pdb, so managed frames print
`[0xIL] in <mvid>:0`. debug-files upload --type portable-pdb pairs the
compiler's dll+pdb with the shipped assembly's MVID (--shipped-dir) and
uploads one BMF per assembly. debug-files convert --to bmf writes the
files locally. Includes a minimal ECMA-335/portable-pdb reader, the BMF
writer, and tests against the original generator's output.

Review of PR #99: Unity Mono portable pdbs as BMF symbols
Read the PR, CLAUDE.md, and every non-test source file (CLI wiring, bmf.rs, dotnet.rs, dotnet_bmf.rs, portable_pdb.rs)
Checked the ECMA-335 / portable-PDB decoding against the spec (table schemas, coded indexes, compressed integers, sequence-point blob, PE debug directory)
Ran cargo build and cargo test on this branch: all suites pass (676 unit tests plus the integration suites). I did not run clippy, fmt or the env-gated Unity fixture tests.
Posted 4 inline findings (below)
Correction to my inline comment on src/cli/debug_files.rs:457:--no-zstd and --zstd-level are honoured, because strategy is passed to run_upload. The real gap there is only --extension (and the inapplicable --il2cpp-* flags).

Summary
P3
src/symbols/dotnet_bmf.rs:360 (and :354)
Walk::types recurses without a depth cap or visited set. A damaged NestedClass table, or an async method naming its own type, overflows the stack. That is a SIGSEGV/abort, so it bypasses the exit-code contract and the #98 panic hook. This is from reading the code; I did not reproduce it.
P3
src/cli/portable_pdb.rs:252
The same module id reached twice (identical copies under overlapping paths) fails the whole run with exit 11, and the branch is untested.
P3
src/cli/debug_files.rs:457
--extension is logged as "also matching" but never reaches discover.
P3
.github/workflows/npm-publish.yml:277
Release-pipeline and e2e-script changes (b4eef85, 131dc45) are bundled into a feature PR. They are not on main.
Smaller points that I did not post inline:
Branch is behind main.main has fix(exit): a panic exits 1 before any request, 50 after, never 101 #98 (panic exit codes), the 0.8.2 release, and rust-version = "1.89". A trial merge (git merge-tree) is conflict-free, but I did not build the merged result. Rebase and re-run CI before merging.
CLAUDE.md layout section does not mention cli/portable_pdb or symbols/{bmf,dotnet,dotnet_bmf}.
Identical first signatures. Methods whose first signature is identical (for example overloads that differ only in generic arguments, which reduce to the open type) silently keep only the first. This matches the original generator, but it is not counted in Stats or logged.
Checked and found correct
Table schemas and coded-index tag lists match ECMA-335.
Compressed signed and unsigned integers, and the sequence-point record layout (document records, hidden points, delta encoding), match the spec.
The CodeView GUID+stamp against #Pdb pairing check is right.
PDB Idx(MethodDef) widths ignore the #Pdb type-system row counts. This is harmless today, because only Document and MethodDebugInformation are read, and both come before the affected tables.
bmf.rs validates point order and file indexes before writing.
Zip entry names come from a 32-hex MVID, so there is no path traversal. The manifest is built with serde_json.
Streaming, memory-mapped reads and typed errors follow the CLAUDE.md contracts. Nothing in the new code writes to stdout.
Summary
Overall risk: Low. The new code is isolated behind --type portable-pdb and convert, and existing flows are untouched apart from the flag plumbing.
Merge recommendation: Approve after a rebase onto main with green CI. The stack-overflow guard is worth adding first, and the rest can follow. Per the PR's own rollout note, deploy worker #143 before any integrator raises its CLI version floor.
Most important to fix:
Cap or deduplicate the recursion in Walk::types.
Decide how duplicate module ids should behave (dedupe identical copies) and test it.
Reject or honour --extension for portable-pdb.
Split out the unrelated CI and e2e commits.
Positives:
The reader is bounds-checked throughout and the mutation fuzz sits next to the parser.
Verifying the pdb against the compiler dll's CodeView id, and failing before any upload, avoids silently wrong line numbers.
The --shipped-dir design (shipped MVID as key, drop methods whose IL size differs) is well reasoned and documented.
Byte-for-byte oracle tests, wiremock integration tests and --help updates follow the repo's conventions.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added support for converting .NET assemblies and Portable PDBs into BMF files.
Added Portable PDB uploads, including optional shipped-assembly matching and dry-run packaging.
Added CLI options and guidance for selecting inputs and shipped assemblies; documents validation and unsupported formats.
Bug Fixes
Improved automated publishing to check out the correct commit.
Capture paths are now checked to ensure they remain within the capture directory.
Tests
Added coverage for conversion, uploads, malformed files, and CLI option validation.
The CLI now parses .NET assemblies and portable PDBs, converts their method and line data into BMF files, and supports BMF conversion and portable-PDB uploads. An optional shipped-assembly directory supplies runtime assemblies for mapping. The changes also add conversion and upload tests, documentation, capture-path validation, and a release-workflow checkout fallback.

Explanation
Issue [#86] requires a working debug-files convert --to bmf path or a real portable-PDB upload path. The PR adds both paths. src/cli/portable_pdb.rs discovers compiler DLL/PDB pairs, accepts an optional shipped-assembly directory, converts one BMF per module, and uploads one package per assembly. src/symbols/dotnet_bmf.rs uses the shipped MVID, matches methods by signatures and IL offsets, and drops missing methods and IL-size mismatches. The summary also reports pairing validation, malformed-input tests, upload integration tests, and conversion tests. The Unity package post-process integration remains separate, as specified by issue [#86].
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The PR includes changes not connected to issue [#86]. .github/workflows/npm-publish.yml changes publish checkout behavior. scripts/e2e_flows.py changes capture-path validation. .gitignore adds Python cache exclusions. Severity: P3 Low Problem:Walk::types recurses with no depth cap or visited set, over two maps built straight from file data: self.nested (raw NestedClass rows, here) and async_machines (line 354). top_level_types filters by enclosing_types(), where the last row per nested type wins. nested_types() keeps every row, so the two disagree on a damaged table. Impact: A damaged dll can overflow the stack. That is a SIGSEGV/abort, not a panic, so the #98 panic hook does not turn it into exit 1/50. It breaks the "broken input never crashes, stable exit code" contract that tests/broken_files.rs pins. Scenario (from reading the code, not reproduced):NestedClass rows (Y in T) and (Y in Y). enclosing[Y] = Y, and T is still top-level. The walk goes T → nested[T]=[Y] → nested[Y]=[Y] → … forever. The same happens if a method with no sequence points carries an AsyncStateMachineAttribute naming its own declaring type (line 354). The 3000-round mutation fuzz is unlikely to hit this, because it needs specific row values. Fix: Add a depth argument capped at about 64, the way type_full_name already does. Or keep a visited: HashSet<u32> of type rows in Walk. Add a unit test with a hand-patched NestedClass row.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Severity: P3 Low Problem: Two inputs with the same module id fail the whole run (exit 11). That includes the same assembly found twice, such as byte-identical dll+pdb copies under overlapping or nested input paths, or two paths that resolve to the same file. In convert, the first file is already on disk by the time this check fires. No test covers this branch. Impact: Running against a wider directory, such as a parent of the .dag dir, can fail the build step for a harmless duplicate. The user has to narrow the paths by hand. Scenario:debug-files upload Library/Bee/artifacts --type portable-pdb …. If two subdirectories each hold a copy of Assembly-CSharp.dll with its pdb, both convert to the same MVID and the second one aborts everything. Fix: If the module id matches and the BMF bytes (or the source dll/pdb) are identical, skip the second one with a debug!. Keep the error for the case where the same id comes from different content. Add a test for both cases.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Severity: P3 Low Problem:extra (--extension) is parsed and logged at line 313 ("also matching extra file-name suffixes") but is not passed to portable_pdb::run_upload. discover only ever looks at .dll/.pdb. Its help text says every --type accepts these suffixes in addition to its built-ins. The command also silently accepts the other flags that don't apply here, such as --il2cpp-uuids, --il2cpp-root, and --no-zstd with --zstd-level. The neighbouring types reject or honour the inapplicable flags. Impact: A caller who passes --extension .exe (an assembly with a non-.dll name) gets a log line claiming the suffix is matched, and the files are skipped. Fix: Reject --extension for portable-pdb with a config_invalid error, next to the --shipped-dir check, and say so in the help. Or honour it in discover.

Severity: P3 Low (scope, not a bug)
This change, the scripts/e2e_flows.pycappath hardening, and the .pyc/.gitignore cleanup come from commits b4eef85 and 131dc45. Neither commit is on main, and they have nothing to do with portable-pdb. Pinning the checkout to workflow_run.head_sha looks right to me and it falls back to the typed tag on workflow_dispatch. But it changes the release pipeline's trust boundary, so it should land in its own PR where it can be reviewed and reverted on its own. Splitting those two commits out, or at least naming them in the PR description, would also keep git revert of the feature from touching the release path.

Fix the code spans that contain a backtick.
System.Collections.Generic.List`1 and <>f__AnonymousType0`2[...] x each contain a backtick. A single backtick closes the code span early. The text after it then renders as prose. The rest of line 96 joins with the next lines into one wrong code span. On line 98, <Id> and <Label> fall outside the code span and are removed as HTML tags. markdownlint reports MD038 on lines 96–98 because of this. Use double-backtick delimiters.

Reject --extension for --type portable-pdb.
ExtraSuffixes::parse(&extensions) runs for every type. portable_pdb::run_upload does not receive extra. If a user passes --extension with --type portable-pdb, the run logs "also matching extra file-name suffixes" and then ignores the suffixes. Other flags that do not apply (--allow-empty, --concurrency, --icon, --shipped-dir) are rejected with exit 20. Apply the same rule here.

Review comment at @src/cli/debug_files.rs around lines 382 - 386:
Reject non-empty parsed extra suffixes when the selected kind is
DebugFileType::PortablePdb, using the existing config_invalid error path. Place
the validation after ExtraSuffixes::parse(&extensions) and preserve the existing
behavior for other debug file types.

Remove duplicate pairs in discover. Without this, a valid input fails with exit 11.
discover adds (X.dll, X.pdb) once for each path that resolves to the pair. Three ordinary inputs produce the same pair twice:
X.dll X.pdb. The README says a named .dll or .pdb "must have its partner", which invites this form.
A directory plus a file inside it.
Two overlapping directories.
convert_all then converts the second copy. convert_pair writes the BMF to the same <mvid>.bmf path again. The module-id check then returns InputInvalid with the message "two assemblies under the given paths have the module id …". These are the same assembly, not two different ones. In convert mode, the BMF also stays in --output after the failed run.
Remove duplicates by DLL path before building the Pair list. Canonicalize the path so overlapping directories also match.
Proposed fix
-pub fn discover(paths: &[PathBuf], shipped_dir: Option<&Path>) -> anyhow::Result<Vec<Pair>> {- let mut found: Vec<(PathBuf, PathBuf)> = Vec::new();+pub fn discover(paths: &[PathBuf], shipped_dir: Option<&Path>) -> anyhow::Result<Vec<Pair>> {+ let mut found: Vec<(PathBuf, PathBuf)> = Vec::new();+ let mut seen = std::collections::HashSet::new();+ let mut push = |found: &mut Vec<(PathBuf, PathBuf)>, dll: PathBuf, pdb: PathBuf| {+ let key = fs::canonicalize(&dll).unwrap_or_else(|_| dll.clone());+ if seen.insert(key) {+ found.push((dll, pdb));+ }+ };
Replace both found.push(...) calls with push(&mut found, ...).

Review comment at @src/cli/portable_pdb.rs at line 110:
Update discover to deduplicate discovered pairs by canonicalized DLL path before
building the Pair list. Replace both pair-collection insertions with a shared
check that only adds the DLL/PDB pair when its canonical path has not already
been seen, falling back to the original path if canonicalization fails.

What
Unity Mono Release builds (Android, Mono2x) ship no pdb, so managed frames print
at Ns.Class.Method (args) [0x0000b] in <MVID>:0with no file:line. This takes the compiler's portable pdb, pairs it with the shipped assembly's MVID and uploads it as a BMF (Bugsee Mapping File). Closes #86.debug-files upload --type portable-pdb <compiler-dir...> [--shipped-dir <dir>]: one upload per assembly (zip with<mvid>.bmf+manifest.json,format: "bmf").debug-files convert --to bmf <paths> --output <dir>: writes the.bmffiles locally.--to bsfis reported as not implemented.symbols/dotnet.rs, no assembly resolution, bounds-checked, never panics), BMF writer (symbols/bmf.rs), and a port of the original generator's signature logic (symbols/dotnet_bmf.rs).docs/unity-mono-portable-pdb.md. README and--helpupdated.Why
--shipped-dirWith Stripping Disabled the shipped dll is byte-identical to the compiler's. Development builds are accepted too (with pdbs deleted they print
<mvid>:0as well).Testing
cargo test(all suites),cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo fmt --check,cargo +1.88 check --all-targets: green, also from a clean checkout.bugsee-dotnetgenerator on a committed sample (21 methods), and on the Unity fixtures (Release/Disabled, Development/Disabled, Bugsee.Runtime with 1571 methods; env-gated tests).ReMapwith 0 unresolved and 0 mismatches in four configurations (Release/Disabled, Release/Low, Dev/Low and Dev/Disabled without pdbs).tests/portable_pdb.rs): registration body, zip entries, manifest,--force, already-exists (HTTP 200 nested error), dry-run, missing pdb, flag misuse.tests/broken_files.rs: truncated/garbage dll and pdb never crash and send nothing; a 3000-round mutation fuzz sits next to the parser.ready, formatbmf, correct images. Reports still showed<mvid>:0because the worker's Unity handler does not use BMF symbols; fixed in bugsee/bugsee-background-worker#143.Rollout
Deploy bugsee/bugsee-background-worker#143 first. Integrators should raise their CLI version floor only after that is live, otherwise uploads succeed but frames stay unresolved.
