Add support for publishing clippings to a micro.blog blog post (one post per book) - #56
Adds Micro.blog clippings publishing, with one 📚 post per book that updates as new clippings arrive.
Publish clippings manually or enable automatic syncing, disabled by default.
Select the destination blog for accounts with multiple blogs.
Retain selected clippings for unmatched books and publish them after matching.
Keep existing posts on their original blog when the default changes.
Pause publishing when a post is deleted and offer explicit recreation on either the previous or current clippings blog.
Standardize the UI terminology on “clippings.”
Support explicitly enabled localhost HTTP connections for self-hosted Docker testing.
Validation: 852 backend tests and 244 frontend tests pass; server and frontend builds pass. Also tested manually in self-hosted Docker mode, including publishing clippings, recreating a deleted post, and updating an existing post with additional clippings.

Walkthrough
The change adds per-book Micro.blog clipping publication, destination selection, and missing-post recreation. It also adds an opt-in localhost HTTP setting for connector requests and documents the Docker setup.
Changes: Micro.blog clipping publication and destinations

Adds per-book clipping selection and post state. The scheduler builds ordered content, tracks publication fingerprints, and merges state with document records.
Adds scheduling from clipping and sync operations, then creates or updates posts through the connector queue. Creation recovery, confirmed-missing handling, and explicit recreation are covered by tests.
Clipping actions and user feedback app/src/Clippings.jsx, app/src/Clippings.test.jsx, README.md, src/routes/web.ts, test/web-microblog.test.ts
Adds clipping actions, sending feedback, and a recreation flow to the clipping page. The README and linking page describe the clipping-post behavior.
Recreating a deleted Micro.blog post for a book whose match was cleared by an account change shows a success message but publishes nothing, and the paused state disappears. Require a book match before recreation, or surface the failure, before merging.

Persist rematched book IDs before returning a no-op
When a book is rematched to a different Micro.blog external_id that has the same ISBN, line 107 queues publication because state.matched_book differs, but the rendered fingerprint is unchanged and this return bypasses the metadata update at lines 291-292. processRow then marks the row done and immediately calls scheduleMicroblogClippings, which sees the same mismatch and puts it back to pending, causing Micropub discovery (and sometimes inventory) requests on every queue drain indefinitely. Persist the new match metadata before taking the no-op path.
db.prepare('UPDATE microblog_clipping_posts SET missing=1 WHERE user_id=? AND document=?').run(userId, document);
return permanent(err.message);
}
if (err instanceof ConnectorOperationError && !err.retryable && !err.needsReauth) return permanent(`${err.message}. Review the saved Micro.blog post before syncing again.`);

Mark missing targets reported by the update request
If the user deletes the remote post between the successful q=source check and the subsequent update, or the source lookup is temporarily stale, the update can return a missing-target 404/invalid_request. Because micropub only converts those responses to MissingMicroblogPost when sourceLookup is true, this branch records a permanent error without setting missing; line 104 then suppresses every future job and recreateMicroblogClippings rejects the user because missing is false. Recognize missing-target responses from the update as deletion so explicit recreation remains available.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Reschedule clippings when progress establishes a match
When a selected clipping has no cached Micro.blog match and Sync now (or a normal progress job) is what first auto-matches an existing shelf book, backfillConnector's earlier call to scheduleMicroblogClippings queues nothing. The successful progress/finished row then reaches this branch with publication === false, so the durable selection is never queued for posting until a second unrelated reader sync or another Sync now; reschedule Micro.blog clippings after successful progress/finished pushes as well.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve path-based legacy destinations on token rotation
When a database already has a pre-destination clipping post on a path-based blog such as https://host/blog/ and the user rotates its token, this origin-only reduction records https://host/. The newly discovered UID remains https://host/blog/, so the availability check classifies the same accessible blog as a changed account; the transaction then deletes every Micro.blog match and queued job and resets automatic-sync options. Compare legacy post URLs with each discovered destination's path boundary (as destinationForPost does) so a same-blog rotation does not wipe those settings.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve the selected blog across same-account token rotations
When a user selected blog B but has not published a collection yet, then removes the old default blog A and rotates the token, this check ignores the saved options.highlight_blog. Even if the new token still exposes B, changedMicroblogAccount becomes true because A is gone, so the transaction clears all Micro.blog matches and resets automatic-sync and destination settings. Treat an available saved highlight blog as the same-account evidence already accepted for post destinations.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Isolate post-push clipping scheduling failures
If scheduleMicroblogClippings throws after a successful Micro.blog progress or finished push, such as during a transient SQLite write failure while automatic mode inserts selections, markDone has already run but this call is still inside the surrounding push try. The catch at lines 185-187 therefore changes the same row back to pending or dead, causing an already applied bookshelf update to be retried and eventually reported as a push failure; handle this best-effort scheduling failure separately while leaving the successful row done.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Pass the book scope to Micro.blog scheduling
When backfillConnector is called from POST /connectors/:id/sync/:document, the document argument filters the progress rows above, but this special call drops it. If books A and B both have eligible selected or automatic clippings, tapping the book-page “Sync now” for A queues and can publish B's collection too, contradicting the UI's “Queues this book’s updates” scope and inflating the returned count. Pass document to scheduleMicroblogClippings.
db.prepare('UPDATE microblog_clipping_posts SET missing=1 WHERE user_id=? AND document=?').run(userId, document);
return permanent(err.message);
}
if (err instanceof ConnectorOperationError && !err.retryable && !err.needsReauth) return permanent(`${err.message}. Review the saved Micro.blog post before syncing again.`);
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Let corrected Micropub updates retry
When an existing-post update receives an ordinary non-retryable 4xx that is not classified as missing, such as Micro.blog rejecting oversized generated HTML, this branch persists state.error. Every later scheduleMicroblogClippings pass exits on that error, and only missing-post recreation clears it, so deleting or editing the offending clipping and pressing Sync now can never retry the same safe URL; the user must unlink the whole connector. Keep these validation failures on the queue or provide an explicit clear/retry path after correction.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve reading order without start offsets
When a client omits the optional start_offset, every clipping in the same spine compares as offset 0 and then sorts by creation time. A passage added later from an earlier page therefore appears after a later passage in the generated post, even though the stored clipping also has paragraph_index, page, and word positions. Carry positional fallback fields into Passage and its snapshots, and use them before created_at.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Allow rejected initial posts to retry after correction
When the first Micropub create gets a definite non-retryable validation response such as 413 or 422, this branch calls permanent, which persists state.error; every later scheduler pass skips that book, and the manual-add endpoint also returns the saved error. Consequently, shortening/deleting the offending clippings or disabling automatic additions can never retry the corrected initial post without unlinking Micro.blog, even though the failed 4xx create did not leave an ambiguous remote post.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Reschedule publication after merging selected books
When an unmatched source duplicate has a manually selected clipping and the target book is already matched and published, this call moves the selection into the target, but the remainder of mergeDocuments only migrates existing queue rows and never runs the Micro.blog scheduler after the clippings and matches are settled. Since the unmatched source had no publication job, the target's stored fingerprint is now stale with no pending job, so its remote collection can omit the merged clipping until an unrelated device sync or explicit Sync now; schedule the canonical target once the merge finishes.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Render missing-post recovery outside live clipping groups
When a collection has been marked missing and the user then deletes its last live local clipping, published_snapshot intentionally keeps the collected passage available for recreation, but /clippings removes tombstones and this control is nested inside groups.map, which is built only from live items. The book then has no section or action even though postData still reports missing, so the supported UI recovery becomes unreachable and publication stays paused; render missing post rows independently of the live clipping groups.

Preserve the paused state when the book has no Micro.blog match.
When an account change removes the book match, recreation clears missing and returns { queued: false }. The UI ignores that result and reports that the replacement was queued. Require a match before clearing missing. ActionSheet will show the API error and keep the dialog open so the user can match the book first.

Schedule Micro.blog after imported highlights
When automatic clipping sync is enabled and BookOrbit returns a new highlight without a progress change, importHighlights inserts the clipping and calls fanOutHighlight (src/connectors/fanin.ts:167-200), but this branch drops the Micro.blog fan-out and that import path never calls scheduleMicroblogClippings. The new clipping therefore gets neither an automatic selection nor a collection job and remains unpublished until an unrelated reader or manual sync happens; trigger the collective scheduler after imported highlights are stored.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Retry Micropub timeout responses
When Micro.blog or an upstream proxy returns HTTP 408, this predicate classifies the transient timeout as non-retryable. For a create, attempted has already been set, so the catch at line 318 persists state.error; every later scheduler pass then skips the book and the identity-based recovery path is never reached, forcing an unlink even though the request can safely be retried or recovered. Classify timeout responses as retryable so the next attempt checks for the existing post before creating again.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Recheck the book match before publishing
When a queued collection is already in q=config or source lookup and the user changes this book's Micro.blog match to “don't sync,” processRow's preflight has already passed. This guard only compares the account credential and post identity, so publication resumes with the captured old match, creates or updates the remote post, and the follow-up scheduler cannot correct it because the current match is now empty. Capture and recheck the match ID and edition before each remote write.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Surface merged-post publication errors
When two local duplicates that both have attempted or published Micro.blog collections are merged, mergeMicroblogClippings stores an error and scheduleMicroblogClippings skips that book on state.error, but this filter only renders rows marked missing; the merge also creates no failed queue row for Settings. Automatic users therefore get no warning while all future clipping updates for the merged book are suppressed. Render post.error conflicts with a recovery path or surface them through the queue.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve conflicts raised by concurrent merges
When a target collection is in a Micropub source/create/update await and the user merges another book that also has publication history, mergeMicroblogClippings sets the target's durable conflict error but keeps its identity. The post-write assertCurrent therefore passes, and this unconditional error=NULL erases the conflict; processRow then marks the job done and follow-up scheduling resumes against one post, so the intended review pause for the two remote posts is silently bypassed. Clear only an error/version observed by this publication attempt, or abort when a merge adds one.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Recheck automatic eligibility after source lookup
When an existing-post update is in the q=source await and automatic sync is turned off, rendered still contains the auto-only clipping captured before the lookup. assertCurrent() does not compare connector options or eligible passages, so this line sends that stale content after the disable; the success path snapshots it, and disabled-mode passages() then deliberately retains the snapshot, leaving the unwanted addition permanently published rather than corrected. Recompute eligibility or the fingerprint after the source lookup before issuing the update.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve shelf jobs when destination discovery is unavailable
When a user with no clipping posts rotates a same-account token while Micropub q=config is temporarily unavailable, validateCredential deliberately still succeeds without destination metadata, which sets verifyMicroblogPosts and reaches this statement. It deletes every Micro.blog row, including unrelated pending/retrying progress and finished pushes, and the link route does not backfill them, so the reading update is silently lost until another device sync; limit this cleanup to collection jobs or preserve/reschedule bookshelf work.
if (!missing && destination !== original) throw new ConnectorOperationError('The previous post exists again. Choose the previous blog to resume updating it.', false);
withTransaction(db, () => {
if (missing) db.prepare(`UPDATE microblog_clipping_posts SET identity=?,url=NULL,fingerprint=NULL,attempted=0,error=NULL,missing=0,destination=? WHERE user_id=? AND document=?`)
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Recheck restored posts before queued recreation
If the previous post becomes visible again after the source check at lines 400-405 reports it missing but before the queued publication job drains, this reset discards the old URL and makes the job look like a brand-new collection. publishMicroblogClippings can then only issue a create, producing a duplicate instead of resuming the restored post; retain enough previous-post state to recheck immediately before the queued create.
