fix(client): load session ancestors on sync so depth>=2 subagent views resolve their root (#631) - #843
Both failing app-2 specs render from the client data store at tree depth ≥ 2, and the store never held the ancestors:
session.sync(id) (packages/client/src/solid/data.ts) loads the session by ID plus its descendants (listChildren + syncDescendants). Nothing loads ancestors. A session opened directly (deep link into a nested subagent — exactly what the specs do) therefore has no store info for its parent chain beyond what the session list happened to publish.
resolveRoot walks parentID upward through loaded info only, so from a great-grandchild it stops at the first missing parent and groups the family under the wrong root. The running-subagents owner effect in packages/app/src/session/requests/model.ts then syncs that wrong "root", so the root's +N working menu never appears (timeline-stream.spec.ts:1543).
SessionAncestorTrail (packages/app/src/session/session-identity-header.tsx) walks the same store synchronously, so the trail truncates to the direct parent (subagent-child-navigation.spec.ts:131). Depth-1 specs pass because the direct parent is covered by the route/tab fallbacks; depth ≥ 2 is where the missing ancestors bite. This also explains the failure pattern: deterministic, both OSes, on unrelated PRs — it is a data-loading gap, not spec timing.
Fix
session.sync now walks the parent chain after fetching the session: parents the store does not already hold are read by ID (api().session.get) and published with the sync, best-effort — a parent that cannot be read (or returns a mismatched ID) leaves the walk at the furthest-known ancestor, which resolveRoot already tolerates; a seen set terminates parent cycles. No component changes: with the ancestors in the store, the trail, resolveRoot/family grouping, and the root working-subagents menu all render as the specs expect.
Tests
New unit test (packages/client/test/solid-data.test.ts): syncing a great-grandchild by ID with a list that only surfaces the root loads child + grandparent + root, root() resolves to the root, and the family contains the whole chain.
The parent-cycle test's request expectation gains the by-ID ancestor get (each session is still listed exactly once; the cycle still terminates).
The two e2e specs themselves run under CI (e2e (linux, app-2) / e2e (windows, app-2)) — see this PR's checks.

New Features
Syncing a session with child loading enabled now also loads its available ancestors, making it easier to find the session within its family.
Bug Fixes
Ancestor loading stops safely when a cycle is detected, a read fails, or the returned session doesn’t match the requested parent. Plain sync continues to load no ancestors.
…s resolve their root (#631)
session.sync loaded a session and its descendants but never its ancestors, so a directly opened nested subagent held no store info for its parent chain: resolveRoot stopped at the first missing parent, the family grouped under the wrong root, the ancestor trail truncated, and the root working-subagents menu never appeared - the deterministic app-2 e2e failures at depth >= 2. Sync now reads missing parents by ID (best effort, cycle-guarded, ID-checked) and publishes them with the session.
When sync runs with { children: true }, it now loads missing ancestors of the requested session and publishes successfully loaded ancestors with the session and unread descendants. Plain sync does not load ancestors. Tests cover ancestor lookup and by-ID request behavior.

Summary
Ancestor loading and validation packages/client/src/solid/data.ts, packages/client/test/solid-data.test.ts
Family sync follows missing parent IDs, skips ancestors already in the store, and stops on a cycle, failed read, or mismatched response ID. Tests cover plain sync, ancestor loading, root and family lookup, and by-ID requests.
Issue 631 reports failures in ancestor-path navigation and root running-subagents views from a grandchild session. This change loads the ancestor chain during family sync.

Opening a deeply nested subagent session can leave its ancestor trail and family grouping permanently incomplete after one transient read failure. A slow parent lookup can also delay the session from appearing. Both issues are limited to family syncs and have localized fixes. Resolve them before merging.

Preserve newer ancestor state when publishing the walk
When an ancestor is loaded or renamed while this walk is awaiting another parent request, the saved ancestor snapshot unconditionally overwrites its newer store entry. For example, after fetching a missing parent, the walk waits for the grandparent; a session.renamed event then loads the parent and applies its new title, but this publication restores the old title. Unlike the children, ancestors are not filtered through unread at publication time, and their requests are not tracked under their own sync keys, so the rename handler cannot coordinate with them. Recheck ancestor freshness before publishing or coordinate these reads through the per-session sync mechanism.
…overy keeps its retry semantics (#631)
PR #843 loaded ancestors inside every session.sync: that consumed the ancestor reads the TUI family discovery retries with backoff and swallowed the failures it retries on, breaking session-family tests on both OSes in basic unit CI. The walk is now behind sync options.ancestors; the app session route (the deep-link entry both #631 specs use) passes it together with children, and a plain sync provably leaves the chain unloaded.
Simpler gate than the opt-in flag: a family sync (children) loads ancestors as part of loading the whole family; a plain sync does not walk. The app session route already family-syncs the viewed session, so both #631 specs get the chain; the TUI family discovery only plain-syncs until the root is known, so its retry counts are untouched. Client solid-data 38/38 and TUI session-family 2/2 pass locally.
Updated (lane A, task 3041): the ancestor walk now runs on family syncs only. #843 as first pushed loaded ancestors in every session.sync, which broke the TUI family discovery's retry semantics (basic unit: session-family + client family tests failing on both OSes, reproduced locally against main). A family sync ({children: true}) now loads the whole family from either end; a plain sync does not walk, and the app session route already family-syncs the viewed session. Local: client solid-data 38/38, TUI session-family 2/2. Main merged in; head 0483469.

Keep incomplete ancestor walks eligible for retry
If an ancestor GET fails transiently, this branch exits the walk but lets the family sync complete successfully. createSync.run then caches session.family:${sessionID} as complete, so subsequent family syncs—including reopening the same session—do not retry the missing ancestor until that key is invalidated, for example by reconnecting. In the app's nested-session route, this leaves the ancestor trail truncated and root resolution incorrect even after the server recovers. Track ancestor-walk failure and invalidate the family key, as the descendant walk already does, while retaining best-effort publication.

Publish the requested session before waiting for ancestors.
In the merge base, the requested session and direct children were published after the initial reads. The current family sync inserts a sequential ancestor walk before publishSessions. A slow or unresolved parent read can delay publication of the requested session and direct children, and it also delays the descendant walk.
The initial info and listChildren reads already block publication, but the ancestor walk adds a new blocking wait for each missing parent. Publish the requested session and direct children before the ancestor walk, then publish ancestors as they resolve.

Keep the family key retryable when an ancestor read fails.
The ancestor walk catches a failed parent read and stops. Family sync then publishes what it loaded and resolves. The family key is marked complete, so later sync(id, { children: true }) calls return without reading the parent again. Ancestors that stay unreadable after a transient failure remain missing until the family key is invalidated by some other path.
The descendant walk already handles this case. It invalidates session.family: when it skips a failed branch. The ancestor walk should do the same. Track whether every parent read succeeded, and invalidate the family key when one fails:
