Problem
With Open links in set to the system browser, opening one chat or pull request link beside the thread needs the context menu's Open in integrated browser. Middle-click and Cmd/Ctrl-click both go external.
Change
Middle-click opens HTTP(S) links in the integrated browser when available. Plain clicks keep their settings. Cmd/Ctrl-click, including with middle-click, still opens the system browser.
docs/user/source-control.mdupdated.In supported desktop preview tabs, the existing Annotate preview can then select an element. Unchanged: terminal links and paste, mobile, preview permissions, fallbacks. No new setting; the normal-click default is unchanged.
Scope and approval
This reverses the middle-click behavior chosen in pingdotgg#19854 and pingdotgg#26267. #22007 was closed because the setting and context menu exist (comment); this adds a per-link shortcut without changing the normal-click default. Direction and scope approval is pending in the upstream Ideas discussion. This fork draft remains separate from any upstream PR.
In my use of the Codex app, middle-click opens its built-in browser. This comparison is a personal observation, not a verified documentation claim.
Verification
browserLinkTargettest (non-web schemes stay external) passes; it has no mouse-button cases, so the gesture lacks automated coverage.vp run check:changed upstream/main: passed onfbf4a2532d71against5fe18d79ac83.Pending: a mouse pass over chat links, PR controls, server rows, fallback, app.t3.codes and terminal paste; before/after screenshots; a recording.
Implementation: GPT-6.1 Sol via T3 Code (Codex). PR text: Claude Opus 5.5 via T3 Code (Claude Code).
