Request: Basic formatting of form description field. #2996
This is a humble feature request. I respect that plugin's design of simplicity and minimalism, but I find myself still wanting some basic formatting options for the description field.
Primarily the option to add an image.
In my opinion, solutions could include:
Good: Upload a header image to the form.
Better: Enable the basic HTML formatting: <img src= and <a href and <h1, etc.
Best: Basic formatting markup to insert formatting and images wherever needed. Like [img] or ** bold ** etc.
I did search this repository for "Image" "formatting" and "markup" to see if anyone already requested this - sorry if I didn't find it.
Excellent! Could you point me to some documentation on how to do that? I spent all day searching to make sure this wasn't already a feature before I submitted it and found nothing regarding any formatting features, even when searching "Formatting" in this forum - not sure why that duplicate didn't appear. I even tried testing whether Markdown would work, and I didn't see it working, but I'm not familiar with it enough to know if I was making mistakes and the image server rule you mentioned may have also been a factor.
Some documentation or mention of this functionality on the plugin store page would be great!
Thank you. I think this would really be helpful if mentioned on the front page of this repository or the plugin's store page. Like I'd said. I had no clue this was a supported feature! Thanks for a great plugin! I really appreciate the ability to use these types of forms without G.
Okay, I see it now. But if you want pests like me to stop creating duplicate issues (I see this isn't the first time) because it's so easy to miss, it needs to be clearer. I'm trying to help point out that it is pretty much completly invisible to the end user looking for the information, that it's possible to format the forms... not to mention that one single greyed-out phrase disappears completely if a user has already created any content in that form. If I didn't notice it before I was typing, I will never see it again while editing that form.
Then I have to know what Markdown even means. Even though I'm a much more experienced and tech savvy than average computer user, I had no idea what "Markdown" meant until today when I was spending an hour researching before I submitted this request. The vast majority of end users users won't know what that means either, if they even see that tiny little disappearing note in the edit field.
The information needs to be up front where the vast majority of users will be looking for it. Just a brief mention in the advertising for the plugin "Supports text and image formatting by Markdown: (Link)"... (or actually, better yet, just put the note about Markdown OUTSIDE the field with a small link to syntax documentation. That would be the most user-friendly, probably.)
I'm just trying to help. I'm not some passing user who had a little idea. I really did spend over an hour trying to find this information in many likely places today before creating a feature request because I couldn't find the information that it existed already.
Yes, I got your point :) There's currently also another feature request about user facing documentation (#2643), where this could go, too. So if you want to contribute in this area, you're more than welcome :)

This is already possible using Markdown. Please be aware that images must come from the same server due to the CSP we use.

It's already directly mentionned in the placeholder texts of the description fields in edit mode :)
