fix(composer): only chip skills offered by the current provider - #14834
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR fixes provider-specific skill chip eligibility across web and mobile, but also rewrites shared composer serialization and cursor mapping and adds dynamic provider-switch, undo, paste, metadata, and caret behavior. The cross-cutting runtime impact is broader than a small self-contained fix. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

🟡 Minor · Preserve the Markdown caret when reconciling skill… · ComposerPromptEditorTiptap.tsx:1223-1240

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winPreserve the Markdown caret when reconciling skill chips.
When the provider adds a skill while the caret is inside editable
$nametext, replaceWithreplaces the text token with one atom. ProseMirror’s default transaction mapping moves the caret to the replacement boundary. The editor then records the caret at the start of$name, although this repository maps positions inside a chip source to the chip’s trailing edge. Subsequent typing can occur before the chip.Capture the selection’s Markdown offsets before replacement, then restore them against the updated document.

Taking over this one. I’ll keep the provider-aware skill filtering focused, simplify the caret and reconciliation changes against current main, and push back here after focused tests, live web verification, and independent reviews. |

Unknown dollar names such as
$HOME,$PATH, and$notaskillwere rendered as skill chips even when the current provider did not offer them. This left shell text awkward to edit in the composer.Filter chips through the current provider's user-invocable skill list in the shared web editor and both native adapters, using the same eligibility rule as the menu. Disabled and agent-only skills remain editable text. Reconcile chips when that list changes, preserving prompt text, formatting, caret mapping, and undo behavior. Retain an exact source caret across rich/plain editor remounts. Real provider skills still chip; currency stays text. Shared token boundaries and hand-typed web chip policy are unchanged.
Maintainer takeover of @tris203's #14834, retaining the original commits and merging main. Fixes #14656; this remains the replacement for #14660.
Verification:
$HOMEsuccessfully. Mid-text and line-end skill queries remain available and picker selection inserts a real chip; the Settings font preview retains its sample skill. Current short-only and absent-both metadata are verified in the real-editor popover suite. No vendor account or paid action was used. Before — actual main web source, same draft and provider catalog:
After — rebuilt web composer, only the offered Babysit skill chips:
Live caret editing and provider-switch recording
The baseline is actual main web source at ab6be13d43. The after screenshot was refreshed at 0712867cc5; the provider-switch recording predates the picker/metadata/eligibility fixes and still demonstrates the unchanged filtering behavior.
Mid-text skill query remains visible while typing
Review round 1 found and fixed mid-text query suppression, short-only skill descriptions, and the Settings preview sample. Round 2 identified the remaining disabled/agent-only eligibility gap; it now reuses the existing menu policy, with promotion/demotion added to existing cases. The Settings sample retains its schema-valid path while the inactive instructions button is hidden; the actual chat popover still offers its action. Both behaviors were checked live. Three independent dual-review rounds are complete. Both final reviewers found no blockers at the current head; Current-head technical CI passes or is skipped after one rerun of an unchanged right-panel focus test. Macroscope correctness found no issues; its neutral approvability check still requires human review of the composer changes.
