Problem

Changed from fix to feature as this is the implementation pass for Android, ensuring the PR tab works as it should on that platform.

Changed from fix to feature as this is the implementation pass for Android, ensuring the PR tab works as it should on that platform.

The mobile PR workspace bypasses Android's existing list toolbar and floating actions. Folded screens show two headers and iOS-style tab controls; unfolded screens have no way to switch the sidebar to PRs. PR detail routes also draw both a navigator header and their own Material toolbar. Chat and PR detail use different split-view controls, and peer selections accumulate cross-tab history, so folding can make Back return to an unrelated chat.

Change

  • Use native Material 3 navigation: Chats / Pull requests below the compact list, or a centered rail before the sidebar in split view. Reserve the rail's width in pane calculations and keep tab/search state above both layouts. Hide the rail and return its width to the content when the sidebar is hidden in full-screen mode; restoring the sidebar restores the rail.
  • Keep one current Android detail above Home. Peer thread/PR selections replace that slot, tab changes return to the selected list, and compact header/system Back return to the owning list. Nested PR routes keep their normal Back behavior. Both base detail headers use the same sidebar/full-screen control unfolded. Existing draft stores retain unsent edits. Hidden list search handlers no longer consume detail or sheet Back.
  • Animate the rail alongside the sidebar and keep it mounted while clipped. During sidebar expansion, hold the wider navigator until the reveal finishes, then reflow once; viewport and inspector changes retain immediate sizing. Guard animation completion against newer toggles and paint the workspace background during the reveal.
  • Restore the Android list toolbar and New thread / filter FABs. Give the folded navigation bar a slightly stronger tonal surface, following the active theme.
  • Replace the copy-like Changed files glyph with Tabler’s file-diff (+/− in one page) on Android and a matching UIKit template image on iOS. Keep the native buttons and existing Changed files action.
  • Group the three Android PR actions in Expo UI’s native Material 3 floating toolbar, centered above the safe area. Measure its height to keep the last list row and diff content accessible. Android now supports the existing native diff bottom-inset prop, allowing content to extend behind the toolbar while the last lines scroll clear. Existing action permissions and menus remain in place.
  • Use the existing AndroidSheetHeader / MaterialScreenContent structure for review/comment sheets, matching the app’s Git Commit and Confirm Action sheets. Native fit-to-content measurement keeps their Material submit controls reachable; the shared content surface supplies the rounded header/body boundary without manual outer gutters. Round the Changes viewport and retain its gutter.
  • Round the PR list and overview content like other Android screens, including their split-pane gutters. Keep one Material toolbar on PR routes, retain the repository subtitle, use native Material merge buttons, and remove the square background behind the existing native segmented control.

The native navigation bridge supplies Material 3 rail support, which the installed Expo UI package does not expose. It shares tab rendering between compact and split views using the Expo-aligned Compose versions already present in the app. Its attachment guards cover Fabric measuring a replacement bar during folding. iOS retains its existing workspace/navigation implementation.

Scope and approval

This is a focused restoration of Android's existing workspace controls after PR tabs were added. The duplicate headers, missing compose/filter actions, and missing split-view tab access are observable regressions in that integration. The native navigation changes restore tab access and existing Android controls. The merge styling and floating PR action toolbar are deliberate visual follow-ups requested by the reporter; they are not prerequisites for removing duplicate headers. No new PR operation or backend behavior is added. The reporter explicitly requests keeping these changes together in this PR. The PR is open for maintainer review of that combined scope; no prior public maintainer approval is claimed.

Verification

  • Icon/review follow-up: 31 focused navigation/dependency tests, mobile typecheck, targeted lint and formatting pass. Android renders the new file-diff icon and its action opens Changed files. Unfolded sidebar Search mounts focused while PR detail remains active and accepts typing. Same-thread sidebar selections from Files, Terminal and Git Overview intentionally return to base chat; three real StackRouter tests now cover that contract. Review replies explain both findings.

  • The last Typecheck/Test Server 3/Check failures also occur on main at aa2bfc604c; see the upstream CI evidence. New head checks are pending.

  • vp test run apps/mobile/src/features/workspace/workspace-tabs-state.test.ts apps/mobile/src/features/home/material-fab-scroll.test.ts apps/mobile/src/lib/androidControlSizing.test.ts apps/mobile/src/lib/layout.test.ts: 49 tests passed.

  • vp run typecheck from apps/mobile: passed. Targeted lint has no errors; existing React compiler warnings remain. Scoped formatting and git diff --check pass.

  • Native Kotlin ktlint, scoped detekt for the diff inset changes, and Android debug assembly pass after correcting the CI findings.

  • Android debug APK assembled and installed. Android 17 foldable emulator: compact ↔ split transitions retain the selected PR tab and search query; the native tab actions switch lists; thread filtering and the New thread project picker work; PR detail and file views have one toolbar; the merge-method menu opens. The original floating toolbar was verified folded and unfolded, including its AI menu, Changed files action, file-view layering and final-row clearance. The latest review/comment sheets were checked in the unfolded emulator: shared Material surfaces, native close controls, visible submit actions and primary-button enablement. Temporary preview text was cleared without submission. The Changes viewport has rounded corners, and native diff content extends behind the floating toolbar. Full-screen was checked in both directions: rail hidden with reclaimed width, restored with the sidebar. Mobile typecheck, dependency guards (3 tests), layout tests (37 tests), targeted lint, scoped Kotlin checks and ARM64 APK assembly/install pass. Latest sheet verification was unfolded only. The follow-up navigation pass adds 13 real StackRouter scenarios; 75 focused navigation/layout/dependency tests pass, along with mobile typecheck, scoped lint and formatting. In the emulator, unfolded chat → PR → fold → header Back returns to the PR list; system Back returns Changes → PR → PR list and retains its search query. An unsent chat draft survives tab switches and was cleared afterward. The PR full-screen toggle and synchronized rail/sidebar reveal were recorded in both directions. Light and dark folded navigation surfaces were checked; floating-toolbar verification used the dark theme.

  • Verification used an isolated backend seeded with stopped threads and public T3 PR data. No merge, review submission, or agent start was performed. The original Android repair was not exercised on iOS. The icon follow-up attempted iOS builds: the default SDK lacks the existing layout APIs, and Xcode 27.1 RC passes those but fails in ExpoSQLite’s generated Swift macro because Bool’s JavaScriptRepresentable conformance is unavailable. iOS runtime icon verification therefore remains incomplete. Guide, discussion, and reviewer headers were checked in source, not individually exercised. Web, desktop, providers, contracts, and connection protocols are unaffected.

Matched captures use the same emulator, theme and dimensions: folded 1080 × 2424; unfolded 2076 × 2152. Empty-state pairs show the workspace regression. The public PR detail pair shows the subsequent detail pass; live provider state, check statuses and timestamps can change between captures.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR adds a substantial Android Pull Requests workspace capability with native Compose controls and cross-cutting changes to navigation, split-view layout, PR details, sheets, and diff scrolling. Its new runtime behavior and unresolved navigation-design concern require human review.

The captures show the duplicate headers and missing split-view PR access. How are the new Compose navigation bridge and replacement merge controls needed for those repairs? Please explain their connection to the regressions, or separate any independent restyling, as required by the one-problem rule.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This change adds native Android workspace navigation and connects workspace tabs to adaptive layouts and navigation state. It also updates Android home, thread, and pull-request screens with platform-specific controls, search behavior, sheet presentation, and content insets.

Changes

Android workspace experience

Layer / File(s) Summary
Native Compose navigation control
apps/mobile/modules/t3-native-controls/android/*, apps/mobile/modules/t3-native-controls/expo-module.config.json
Adds and registers a Compose-backed Android view. It renders the threads and pull-requests tabs as a navigation bar or rail, with configurable selection and appearance.
Workspace tabs and adaptive layout
apps/mobile/src/features/workspace/AndroidWorkspace*, apps/mobile/src/features/workspace/WorkspaceRootScreen.android.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/layout/AdaptiveWorkspaceLayout.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/layout/workspace-sidebar-toolbar.tsx, apps/mobile/src/Stack.tsx
Adds Android workspace tab components and tab-specific content. The adaptive split layout accounts for the rail and renders pull-request content in the workspace sidebar.
Workspace selection and back navigation
apps/mobile/src/lib/android-workspace-navigation*, apps/mobile/src/features/workspace/useAndroidWorkspace*.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/home/home-thread-navigation.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestsScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/usePullRequest*.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestStackCard.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/*, apps/mobile/src/native/useOpenPullRequest.ts
Adds Android workspace navigation-state construction and selection hooks. Thread and pull-request entry points use workspace selection on Android; thread list-return and hardware-back actions use workspace navigation.
Android home and thread toolbar
apps/mobile/src/features/home/*
Updates Android home header, FAB, and native header behavior. The thread-list toolbar scopes hardware Back handling to the focused Home thread list. Thread filters render only on iOS when a workspace exists.
Pull-request screens and controls
apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/*, apps/mobile/modules/t3-review-diff/android/src/main/java/expo/modules/t3reviewdiff/*, apps/mobile/src/Stack.tsx, apps/mobile/src/components/AppSymbol*, apps/mobile/src/native/NativeHeaderToolbar.tsx
Adds Android pull-request search and floating action toolbars, and adapts pull-request routes, merge controls, review sheets, and sheet content. Measured toolbar height sets bottom content clearance, including the diff view inset and scroll range.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 3a021

No concrete merge-blocking defect is established in the reviewed Android navigation and pull-request changes.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 3a021

The inspected changes preserve repository and environment identity and existing action checks. No introduced security issue was established. Remaining uncertainty concerns interrupted navigation updates and confirmation dialogs during route replacement, rather than a demonstrated increase in privileges or data exposure.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The inspected change affects client navigation among existing environment-scoped thread and PR contexts. It adds an Android selection path but does not establish new service credentials or broader authority in the inspected bridge. Sensitive outcomes still include existing PR mutations and merges under the selected resource identity.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No introduced identity-confusion or authorization-bypass path was established in the inspected selection flow. Native tab input cannot itself specify a PR target, and detail replacement keeps resource-scoped identity. This conclusion does not verify downstream authorization or all external-link inputs.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — List mutations refresh PR detail before checking environment action grants and current PR capabilities. Reviewer requests additionally check reviewer capability and viewer permission before opening the Android reviewer destination. These checks precede the changed navigation call.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Merge confirmation callbacks retain the PR target captured when the confirmation was created rather than deriving it from the current tab. Existing execution guards suppress duplicate calls within the mounted control, validate fresh single-PR merge capability, and refresh the captured detail, activity, and stack after success or failure. Dialog lifetime across route replacement remains unverified.

The missing split-view PR access is why the navigation bridge is here: the installed Expo UI package exposes NavigationBar, but not NavigationRail. The bridge renders Material 3's rail before the split-view sidebar and shares tab rendering with the compact bar. The layout reserves the rail's width, and both layouts use the same tab/search state.

The merge-button styling is not needed to remove duplicate headers. It follows the reporter's explicit request for Material controls in Android PR detail; they have also requested a floating toolbar for its three bottom actions. I've clarified that distinction in the description and kept the PR a draft for maintainer review of the combined scope. The floating toolbar reuses Expo UI's existing component, with no additional bridge. PR action commands and permission checks are unchanged.

The rail explanation accounts for the navigation bridge. Your reply confirms the merge-button styling and floating PR toolbar are separate visual follow-ups. Please split those from the header and navigation repairs under the one-problem rule.

The reporter has explicitly asked to keep the Android layout and Material PR controls together in this PR. I have restored the merge controls and floating toolbar and withdrawn the split. The review/comment sheets and Changes surface now also receive the reporter’s requested Material presentation, rounding and gutter fixes. No separate PR is being opened. The combined PR remains draft for the reporter’s walkthrough and maintainer review.

The latest Typecheck, Test Server 3 and aggregate Check failures also occur on main at aa2bfc604c538dbaa7e2a7f8698104503497d47a:

  • Main Typecheck reports the same mightCarryUsage / TranscriptUsageFormat errors as this PR.
  • Main Test Server 3 fails the same Pi usage cases in UsageService.test.ts and usageTranscriptStreaming.test.ts.

These follow the upstream usage-format change from mightCarryUsage to usageMarkers. This PR's diff is confined to mobile UI and navigation. The mobile typecheck and focused navigation/dependency tests pass locally. I am leaving the CI failures visible and am not adding an unrelated provider-usage repair to this UI PR.

apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestRouteScreen.tsx:278
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reserve Android toolbar clearance before the first layout callback.

The overview list and native diff render with zero bottom clearance while the absolute toolbar is already visible. The overview starts at the top or restores a saved offset, and the diff can start at a focused row or jump to a selected file. Long content can therefore appear beneath the toolbar before onLayout updates toolbarHeight.

Initialize the Android toolbar clearance with a nonzero minimum at the shared toolbar-height boundary. Let onLayout replace that fallback with the measured height for both consumers.
