Problem

Ordinary pairing codes, T3 Connect sign-ins and the hosted app got a "standard" grant without access:read, access:write and relay:write. That meant phones and Connect sessions could not see Connections, could not approve an outside agent without a pairing code, and could not create pairing codes.

The split was not a real boundary. The same standard grant holds terminal:operate, which is a shell as the server's user, and orchestration:operate, which can start a full-access agent. From either one, t3 auth session issue mints a session with every scope.

Change

  • AuthStandardClientScopes now includes access and relay management, and AuthAdministrativeScopes is gone. Everything that used it now uses the standard set: the desktop bootstrap, the startup credential, the reusable dev token, the t3 auth session issue default and the project CLI session. Those already got the full set, so their behaviour does not change.
  • Narrowing still works. --scope on t3 pair, t3 auth pairing create and t3 auth session issue, and the scope picker behind Connections → Create link, all replace the default. Stored grants are never widened, so existing sessions keep what they have until they pair again. There is no migration.
  • Docs: docs/internals/environment-auth.md now explains why the default includes management. docs/user/remote-access.md and docs/user/outside-agents.md no longer describe an administrator-only tier.

What changes in practice: T3 Connect sign-ins and desktop-local backend connections now hold access and relay management. In the Connections picker, the "Standard" preset now includes them, so its existing "can create or revoke access for other devices" warning shows by default.

Scope and approval

Julius (maintainer) agreed to remove the standard/administrative split. There is no separate issue.

Verification

  • apps/server (run in a PID-namespace sandbox): EnvironmentAuth, EnvironmentAuthAdmin, McpOAuth, PairingGrantStore, SessionStore, auth/http, cli/pair, cli/project, cloud/http, RpcAuthorization, CloudLink and cliAuthFormat tests. 12 files, 141 tests pass. Existing tests now assert the standard set where they asserted the administrative one. One test that relied on a default pairing lacking access:write now pairs with an explicit narrow grant.
  • contracts auth.test.ts (32 tests) and client-runtime authorization/onboarding/supervisor (103): all pass.
  • tsc-rs --noEmit in contracts, client-runtime, apps/server and apps/web: no errors or warnings. vp lint, vp fmt and knip:check are clean on the touched files.
  • Not checked in a real client. The web change is only a removed unused import; the picker's new default selection follows from the constant and was not screenshotted.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The PR broadens default pairing and session permissions to include access and T3 Connect management, changing user-facing authorization behavior across server and client flows. Because it changes authentication defaults and sensitive auth code, the permission-policy impact warrants human review.

Move creator-bound pairing delegation into EnvironmentAuth.

requireEnvironmentScope is an authorization gate, but the subsequent defaulting, duplicate check, and creator-scope validation define pairing-grant policy. Keep that policy in EnvironmentAuth with a method that accepts the authenticated creator and requested scopes. The HTTP handler should decode the request, call that method, and map its typed errors. Keep CLI and startup issuance defaults separate.

The correction is a localized essential refactor. It does not represent a major runtime failure or require high-effort rework.

Ordinary pairing codes, T3 Connect sign-ins and the hosted app got a
standard grant without access:read, access:write and relay:write, so
phones and Connect sessions could not see Connections, approve an
outside agent without a pairing code, or mint pairing codes. The split
was not a boundary: the same grant holds terminal:operate and
orchestration:operate, and a shell or a full-access agent can mint a
session with every scope through `t3 auth session issue`.

The standard set now includes access and relay management, and the
separate administrative preset is gone; its uses point at the standard
set. Explicit --scope and the Connections scope picker still narrow a
grant, and stored grants are never widened.

**Full Changelog**: pingdotgg/t3code@v0.1.1-nightly.20261017.3234...v0.1.1-nightly.20261017.3238

Upstream release: https://github.com/pingdotgg/t3code/releases/tag/v0.1.1-nightly.20261017.3238
daehyeon-mun added a commit to ccheever/exact2 that referenced this pull request Oct 18, 2026
The macOS clone embeds T3 Code `0.1.1-nightly.20261018.3302` and
connects with the new permission and settings protocol. Pairing now
requests all sixteen standard permissions and retries the legacy grant
only when an older server rejects an unknown scope. Previously, a
successful pairing with the new server could still reject file browsing
and settings writes.

The client reads explicit session permissions, keeps the old-server
parent mapping, shows the re-pair notice, skips retired preview
automation RPCs on `serverBrowser` hosts, drops unknown turn-item and
icon variants, and applies pull-request link updates to open threads.
Provider settings use instance mutations, and Bitbucket writes preserve
the complete source-control host map and its masked secrets. The
supervisor stops restarting after exit 78, reports the unavailable-home
error, allows five seconds for termination, and waits 32 minutes for a
connected server update. A start requested during an intentional stop
waits through teardown and starts immediately, without treating the old
SIGKILL as a failed startup.

Upstream reference is `9c161462c9`; the runtime archive is release
commit `d0918f1659f4c19172796c8d1910ca6e4bc18b51`.

Before/after protocol evidence uses the old client's five-scope request
and the new client's sixteen-scope request against the same isolated new
server. Both token exchanges succeed. Before, `filesystem.browse` and
`server.updateSettings` fail with `EnvironmentAuthorizationError`;
after, both succeed. These changes affect the protocol rather than
layout.

Verification:

- Native XCTest: **82 passed, 0 failures**, including exit 78,
five-second termination and immediate off/on through timed-out teardown.
- Rust app data: **25 passed, 0 failures** with `--jobs 2`; final native
bundle compiles the macOS app and Contract too.
- Focused Bun regressions: **116 passed, 0 failures**.
- Full Bun run: **5,269 passed, 2 timed out** under concurrent
cold-build load (5,271 total). Both unchanged CPU-heavy
highlighting/Markdown tests passed in the isolated rerun: **32 passed, 0
failures**, CLI timeout 30 seconds. The subsequently added notice
regression passes in the focused run.
- Strict app TypeScript, generator, frozen install, caps, boot, terminal
host build and runtime staging passed. Runtime staging checks the pinned
SHA-256, 11 Mach-O signatures and a real isolated startup.
- Final native bundle and inspected native window drive passed at
`9d1ac46b34`; the lane uses its own T3 home and port 16437. [Validation

Known differences: agent browser control on new servers falls back to
the server browser, which the clone cannot display yet. The concrete
framework gap is recorded in the coordinator's
`clone/issues/browser-cdp.md` and blocks task `server-browser-surface`;
this PR intentionally adds no CDP implementation or framework changes.
The new source-control-host account management screen and complete
per-permission UI gates belong to tasks `source-control-hosts` and
`auth-permissions`.

Prepared with Codex; continues work begun in the prior Claude session.

## Summary

This merges `pingdotgg/t3code` at `5c5dcbc60b` into the fork. It
branches from `main` at `59369391d6`, and no other merge PR was open to
stack on.

- Upstream range: 3247 files changed upstream and 3247 landed. The fork
delta is 818 files (`git diff --stat HEAD^2 HEAD`).
- 32 conflicts, each resolved by the verdict `preflight.mjs` printed.
`docs/fork/upstream-merge-log.md` (entry 2026-10-17) records the
details.
- Fork-deleted files that upstream modified stay deleted:
`apps/server/src/cli/pair.ts`, `pair.test.ts`,
`components/preview/useDiscoveredLocalServers.ts`.
- `ChatView.tsx`: took upstream's hook extraction. The fork deltas moved
with upstream's code:
  - `scriptsEditable` → `chat/useProjectScriptEditing.ts`
- `sandbox` panel surface and `onRetargetFile` →
`chat/RightPanelSurfaceContent.tsx`, which also drops upstream's
`configuredPreviewUrls`
  - The inventory entries now point at both files.
- `Sidebar.tsx`: upstream moved partitioning into
`useSidebarThreads`/`partitionSidebarThreads`. The browse filter,
`showsClosed`/`hidesSubtasks`/`isBrowsing`, and the rule that pinned
threads are never settled are restated there.
- Upstream adopted React Compiler and removed `useCallback`/`useMemo`.
Fork lines in `useThreadActions.ts`, `useProjectScriptSettings.ts`,
`MessagesTimeline.tsx`, `PreviewView.tsx`, `DiffPanel.tsx` and
`BranchToolbar.tsx` are restated as plain functions.
- Upstream's new `reactCompiledFiles.test.ts` rejects `try/finally`. Two
fork blocks used it: `startSandboxForScript` in ChatView and the frame
pick handler in PreviewView. Both now call `.finally()` on the promise.
- `pnpm-lock.yaml`: took upstream's copy, stripped `tsc-rs`, and
re-derived it.

## New fork deltas

- Root `vite.config.ts`: upstream's new `t3code/no-low-value-comments`
rule is off for `packages/moatless-api/src/generated/**`, because orval
regenerates those comments. The new `root-vite-config` path policy
covers this, and "Root Vite Lint Delta" in `upstream-merge-inventory.md`
explains it.
- Upstream restored the mobile-app store row in Settings. It is now
gated on `FEATURES.connections`, and `features.ts` maps the `mobile-app`
settings search ID to `connections`.
- Four `// ---- X ----` dividers removed from fork settings panels,
which upstream's comment rule rejects.

## Verification

`verify.mjs`:
- Green: duplicate-adds, tripwires, resolution-check,
unsupported-methods (ADD 0, DROP 0, KEEP 2), lockfile, fmt, lint,
typecheck and build.
- The React Compiler fix came after that run. Since then, web typecheck,
lint and format on the two changed files, the web build, and the full
`@t3tools/web` suite (544/544 files) all pass.
- Each of these test files fails when run alone, and all of them failed
on the 2026-10-16 merge too: `@t3tools/shared` `AgentScope.test.ts`;
`t3` `ServerBrowserPage.test.ts`, `AcpAdapterV2.test.ts`,
`OrchestratorReplayFixtures.integration.test.ts`; `provider-opencode`
`OpenCodeServerLedger.test.ts`; `ssh` `tunnel.test.ts`. This merge
didn't touch any of them.
- The sandbox restarted three times during verification. After the React
Compiler fix, the repo-wide `pnpm typecheck` was not re-run to
completion; only `apps/web` changed, and its typecheck passes.

## Feature classification

### Usable as-is
- React Compiler adoption and the related perf work across `apps/web`,
plus upstream's ChatView hook extraction
- Sidebar crash fix (pingdotgg#20522)
- Reconnect grace period (pingdotgg#20441); fixes for drafts when switching
machines (pingdotgg#20442, pingdotgg#20519)
- Running-status banners on one line (pingdotgg#20194)
- Project icons load as one chunk (pingdotgg#20147)
- PR stacks grouped under their parent PR (pingdotgg#20160); typed search
qualifiers in PR search (pingdotgg#19934)
- Provider status pushes leave unchanged providers identical (pingdotgg#20392)
- Tooltip updates (pingdotgg#20448)
- The `t3code/no-low-value-comments` lint rule and upstream's comment
pruning
- Mobile/Expo updates (not a fork target)

### Unsupported in Moatless / needs implementation
- pingdotgg#20432: pairing grants access, and T3 Connect management is on by
default. Pairing and Connect stay decided out, and the tripwires still
pass.
- pingdotgg#20422: mobile-app store row in Settings. The T3 mobile app pairs with
a T3 server, so the row is gated behind `FEATURES.connections`.

### Backend behavior to consider reproducing in Moatless
- pingdotgg#20184: follow-up messages sent during `/compact` or `/logout` are
queued. When `canSteer` is false the client now sends `queue`, so the
Moatless backend should accept a queued follow-up while compaction runs.
- pingdotgg#19750: after a restart, threads whose background subagent work was
cut off are woken.
- pingdotgg#19751: background subagents keep T3 tools after the parent turn ends.
Pending subagent work carries `providerInstanceId`.
- pingdotgg#15945: a slow but healthy Codex is no longer reported Unavailable.

`docs/fork/gaps.md` → "Runtime fixes upstream made to its own server"
now lists all four.
