Problem

When a linked pull request has no matching project checkout, PR details can borrow another project's host credentials. Resolve, Fix, and Checkout then use that unrelated directory to fetch the PR or create a worktree.

Change

Validate the resolved pull request's base and head repository identities against the checkout's remotes before either local or worktree preparation changes git state. Return the existing checkout error when neither matches. Read fallback continues to work. Raw and rewritten remote URLs preserve local mirrors, insteadOf shorthand, and the existing GitHub SSH alias mapping. Provider refinement retains supported Forgejo SSH identities; HTTP ports and serving URL prefixes distinguish separate repositories. The committed browser fixture is registered as an intended Knip entry, and both seeders use fixture.json for the repository root.

Scope and approval

Fixes #16455
GitCafe: https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/16455
Triaged bug via the automated issue flow. This fixes the wrong-repository mutation reported in #16455.

Related work: #20727, #20728.

Verification

Additional visible difference: successful baseline draft shows Astra, while the refused handoff shows Sol. This is included in the evidence comparison.

  • On main e075957, the wrong-checkout regression fails with expected 'Success' to be 'Failure': red output.
  • At 7ec918e, vp test run src/git/GitManager.test.ts from apps/server passes all 115 tests: full output. Coverage includes both refusal modes before fetch, HTTP ports, different serving roots, mounted HTTPS/SSH forks, URL rewrites and GitHub SSH aliases. The two serving-root refusal cases fail before the correction: red assertions.
  • Two isolated final source reviews (GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5) found no blocking findings at 7ec918e.
  • Targeted lint and format passed at the production guard revision. A scoped server typecheck exposed four test-scenario literal-widening errors; 21d4399 gives both scenarios the existing FakeGhScenario type. The local typecheck process timed out after emitting diagnostics. CI on 21d4399 subsequently passed all 30 checks, including Build and Typecheck, all server/web tests, lint, CodeRabbit and Macroscope. The fixture temporary-root check accepts a resolved /tmp symlink and rejects the temporary directory itself, sibling paths and escapes; verified with a Python symlink diagnostic. Production code is unchanged by this follow-up.

Evidence

The paired captures below remain pinned to their recorded revisions. Later server-only identity corrections are verified by focused regression tests; the captures are not relabelled to the latest head.

Before e075957; after 060ffe0. Real isolated dev apps, Chromium 154 on Linux, DPR 2, 100% visual scale, system UI font, 1440×900 and 390×844 CSS pixels. Client clock fixed at 2026-10-22 04:30 UTC; server and video clocks remain real. Matching initial thread state, sidebar, panel tab, scroll, and theme. No masks.

For each pair: open the linked PR panel → Check out → In a separate worktree → await the terminal outcome. Baseline adds a fork remote and attempts the fetch; the dark narrow baseline completes checkout in the unrelated project. The fixed version refuses the unrelated checkout in every cell.

The terminal error text, wrapping, toast height, copy control, shadows, timing, pointer/focus states, and video compression differ. In the successful dark narrow baseline, worktree/branch controls and the draft model label also differ (Astra before, Sol after); both drafts remain empty. Initial layout/content match closely, with remaining glyph/icon/cursor and compressed-region pixel differences. No zero-difference claim.

Local checkout and dismiss/retry recording: local refusal → click its close control → reload and reopen the linked panel → worktree retry → refusal → click the close control. The clip ends before the final toast visibly clears.

Latest integrated real-client check at 4f61cbc: Chromium 154 Linux, CSS 1280×800, DPR 2, real clock. Recording starts 06:28:11.824 UTC at the linked panel; Check out → In a separate worktree → mismatch refusal visible by 06:28:22.685; terminal frame retained before stopping at 06:28:31.913. Local git config, refs, HEAD, status and worktree list compare equal. No provider turn was started. The subsequent serving-root correction changes server identity matching only.

Integrated Checkout recording · Transcript

Integrated checkout refusal

Runtime transcript: PR details succeed before and after both refused checkout modes. Local config, refs, HEAD, status, and worktree snapshots remain identical. Primary integrated check confirms the real-client refusal and unchanged repository state.

Committed fixture · Raw recordings, initial frames, differences, manifests and runtime snapshots. Full evidence index. Independent proof audit: sufficient for these scoped recordings. Rebuilt settled frame differs at 37.6585% of pixels above zero and 0.2135% above 16/255, including pointer/caret and encoding differences; layout and refusal text match. Fresh app-record creation by the fixture was not checked; existing isolated records were reused.

Unverified: Electron shell, native iOS and Android, relay/tunnel connections, and separate final-client Fix/Resolve, prompt-link, and branch-dialog actions. Those checkout callers reach the same server guard.

Regression test for #16455.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…its repository

A pull request read may borrow any project on its host, so Check out and a
linked PR's Fix could fetch another repository's pull request into an
unrelated checkout, adding fork remotes and worktrees there. Before any Git
mutation, preparePullRequestThread now requires a configured remote of the
base repository named by the host's canonical PR URL, or of the head fork.

Checkout fixtures declare their GitHub identity through the existing
insteadOf rewrite helper, and a fork-only clone keeps working.

…card

A filter path segment ending in [] resolves to the list of every element's
value, so a task can run only when, say, an issue carries a given label:
{path: 'body.issue.labels[].name', op: 'equals', value: 'needs more info'}.
equals, in and startsWith match when any element does, notEquals only when
none equals the value, exists when the list is not empty. Placeholders
accept the same syntax and render the list.

Before this, filters could only compare scalars and arrays satisfied
exists alone, so a GitHub issue_comment hook had to wake the bound thread
on every comment in the repository and let the agent discard the rest.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The checkout guard only compared raw remote URLs, so a remote such as
`gh:acme/app` was refused even though `insteadOf` expands it to
github.com/acme/app. Compare both raw config and `git remote -v` URLs.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This fixes an important wrong-checkout mutation, but it adds substantial repository-identity resolution and a new gate before existing checkout/worktree flows, including provider-specific and URL-rewrite cases. The breadth of runtime matching logic merits human review.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds repository identity validation before preparing a pull request thread. It also adds a fixture configuration and scripts to seed local repositories and app data for a pull request handoff.

Changes: Pull request checkout validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate checkout repository identity
apps/server/src/git/GitManager.ts
preparePullRequestThread checks configured and reported Git remotes against the pull request’s base or head repository. The check accounts for GitHub SSH aliases and HTTP(S) ports. A mismatch raises a GitManagerError.
Test repository matching and checkout behavior
apps/server/src/git/GitManager.test.ts
Tests cover repository and port mismatches, shorthand URLs, SSH aliases, mounted Forgejo remotes, and clones with only the head fork as a remote. Existing fixtures use visible GitHub URLs mapped to local remotes.

Pull request handoff fixture

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define handoff fixture data
scripts/fixtures/pr-handoff/fixture.json
Defines the fixture root, projects, thread, and pull request metadata.
Create fixture repositories
scripts/fixtures/pr-handoff/seed-repositories.py
Restricts the fixture root to /tmp/, checks for existing project directories, and initializes repositories with a README commit and origin.
Seed app projects and pull request
scripts/fixtures/pr-handoff/seed-app.js, knip.jsonc
seedIssue16455 retrieves the app snapshot, creates missing projects and a thread, dispatches a manual pull request link, and closes the WebSocket. Knip includes the fixture seeder as an entry.

Assert the repository-guard failure.

The fake GitHub provider returns the configured PR unless failWith is set, and this fixture starts with a clean checkout. However, the test still accepts any later failure. Assert the guard's message so the test proves the repository check ran.

An HTTP remote on another port of the PR's host is a different server
(Forgejo keeps one login per host:port), so it no longer passes the guard.
Remotes that only their provider maps to the web host, such as a Forgejo SSH
host, are compared through the provider's refined repository identity.
Register the fixture seeder with Knip and keep the fixture to its one root.

refinement.

Addressed the review findings in 7ec918e: HTTP ports and serving paths remain distinct, supported Forgejo SSH identities use provider refinement, the browser fixture has its Knip entry, and both seeders use fixture.json for their root. Guard assertions now check the repository mismatch error.

All 115 GitManager tests pass, including local/worktree rejection of a root-hosted fork for a mounted-server PR. Targeted lint and format pass. Both isolated final source reviews found no blocking findings. Test output. The PR verification section retains the actual capture revisions and unverified surfaces.

…in fixture seeder

Annotate the mounted Forgejo PR test scenarios as FakeGhScenario so their
state literal no longer widens to string (TS2322/TS2345 in CI typecheck).
The PR handoff fixture seeder now compares the resolved root against the
resolved /tmp, so macOS's /private/tmp passes, and rejects /tmp itself.

Fixed the macOS temporary-directory finding in 21d4399: both the fixture root and /tmp are resolved before the strict descendant check. A Python diagnostic accepts a child through a simulated macOS symlink and rejects the root, siblings and escapes.

The scoped server typecheck also exposed four literal-widening errors in two newly added test scenarios. Both now use the existing FakeGhScenario type. Production code and recorded evidence revisions are unchanged; final Build and Typecheck confirmation remains for CI.

listRemoteUrls includes both fetch and push entries. A matching push URL can therefore satisfy the guard even when the same remote's fetch URL points to another repository. Later PR fetches pass only the remote name, so Git uses that unrelated fetch URL and its credentials. If it serves the requested ref, the checkout can materialize objects from the wrong repository.

Filter push entries before building remotes (or validate the URL used by the fetch operation).

Suggested fix
- const url = line
+                if (line.endsWith(" (push)")) return [];
+ const url = line
                   .slice(separator + 1)
- .replace(/ \((?:fetch|push)\)$/, "")
+ .replace(/ \(fetch\)$/, "")
                   .trim();

Update listRemoteUrls to exclude push entries before adding URLs to remotes, so
the repository-identity check uses only fetch URLs; preserve parsing of
configuration URL entries and fetch entries from remote -v.
