ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped server bug fix that prevents failed named-project creation from recursively deleting a workspace claimed by another project, with a regression test covering the race. Its runtime impact is confined to cleanup after failed creation or cancellation, with no product-default or static-analysis changes. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Note Written by @parmartejass, i kept your commits and the ownership check under the registration lock, including the conflict-specific cleanup skip. i merged current main without rebasing, resolved the comment conflict, added coverage for cleanup winning the lock before registration, and updated two service mocks required by newer main. no production behavior from your fix was dropped. verification at

Note Written by Verified in a real dev environmentreproduced the original bug on through add project > new project, i created "owned race". a task-scoped real git Not verifiedthe pr fix is unverified. i checked out exact head pr cleanup protection, ordinary named-project creation, unowned-folder cleanup, a successful real codex turn, and lock-order behavior remain unverified. native desktop/mobile and macos/windows were not exercised. blacksmith's focused existing project/folder test command timed out with exit 124 after worker setup/source sync, with no test result. cafe reports seven successful check contexts, but that does not establish runtime correctness. the uploaded recording was inspected; playback advanced and seeking to four seconds succeeded with no player error. no source changes, commits, pushes, labels, or other prs were touched. both dev servers are stopped, the browser session ended, and the temporary git setting was removed. verification needs another attempt on a responsive vm. |

Problem
A named-project scaffold can be interrupted after another project
registers its claimed folder. Cleanup then recursively removes that
project's workspace and leaves its record pointing at missing data.
Change
Route both failure paths through one ownership check. Cleanup removes
the folder only when no project owns it, and keeps it if the lookup
fails.
Scope and approval
This is a small, focused fix for an obvious destructive race. It only
changes failed named-project cleanup and adds a regression test, so it
qualifies for the documented focused-bug exception.
