fix(web): a failed main chunk load reloads once instead of showing the boot error - #26451
If the main entry chunk's CSS or JS fails to load once, for example a single dropped request through the T3 Connect relay, the web app goes straight to "T3 Code failed to start" and never retries. The vite:preloadError listener that reloads once through the existing chunk reload guard was registered in main.tsx. That is the module whose load just failed, so the listener didn't exist yet, and bootstrap.ts passed the error to showBootError.
Reproduced on main 48a2923: production vp build served by the real server, Firefox and Chromium (Playwright), aborting the first /assets/main-*.css or /assets/main-*.js request. The page shows the boot error after one document load.
Change
The vite:preloadError listener moves unchanged from main.tsx into handleChunkLoadErrors() in lib/chunkReloadGuard.ts. bootstrap.ts registers it before import("./main").
Main-chunk and route-chunk failures now go through one listener, so each failure gets one reload decision.
Its flags live in a shared chunkLoadState. main.tsx reads them as before: it doesn't render or clear the guard while a reload is pending.
bootstrap.ts doesn't show the boot error while a reload is pending.
A failure that repeats after the one reload still shows the boot error. The sessionStorage guard is unchanged, so this can't loop.
"reloads once instead of showing the boot error when the main chunk fails to load" fails on main with expected "location.reload" to be called 1 times, but got 0 times, and passes here.
"shows the boot error when the main chunk fails again after the reload" guards against a reload loop.
I checked by mutation that making showBootError unconditional fails the first test.
vp test run src/bootstrap.test.ts src/lib/chunkReloadGuard.test.ts: 5/5 pass. vp run check:changed: all pass.
Runtime transcript. Production builds of main 48a2923 (Before) and this branch (After), each served by its own server with fresh state. Each variant runs in a fresh browser context with one asset request aborted. Results were the same in Chromium and Firefox 150. Loads are document loads.
2 loads, "T3 Code failed to start", guard set (no loop)
/pair route chunk fails once
2 loads, app renders
2 loads, app renders (unchanged)
/pair route chunk fails every time
3 loads, "Something went wrong."
3 loads, "Something went wrong." (unchanged)
Main runs during the reload: when only the CSS failed, preventDefault() lets main run while the reload is pending, and it doesn't render. In both browsers the reloaded document still starts at /pair#token=… or /pair?token=…, so one-time credentials in the URL survive the reload.
Not checked: Safari, the Electron desktop shell, and a real relay. The mechanism is the bundler's preload helper, which is the same on all of them.
The relay's cache-control on /assets/* and logging of cloudflared request errors, also raised in the issue, are not part of this change.

…k preload failure
These tests reproduce #26437: when the main chunk's CSS or JS fails to load,
bootstrap shows the boot error instead of reloading once, because the only
vite:preloadError listener lives in the module that failed to load.

…e boot error
The only vite:preloadError listener lived in main.tsx, the module whose load
failed, so a stale main chunk went straight to the boot error. The listener now
lives in chunkReloadGuard.ts and is registered by bootstrap.ts before importing
main; main.tsx reads the shared chunkLoadState, so each event is decided once.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Main-chunk load failures now use the existing one-time reload recovery before showing a boot error. The session-storage guard remains in place to prevent reload loops, keeping the change narrowly bounded.

The bootstrap now registers chunk-load error handling before loading the main module. Shared state coordinates reload scheduling and boot-error display. Tests cover the first reload attempt and the case where a reload was already attempted.

Summary
Early preload handling apps/web/src/lib/chunkReloadGuard.ts, apps/web/src/bootstrap.ts, apps/web/src/bootstrap.test.ts
The bootstrap registers the preload-error handler before importing main and exports the startup promise. Tests check that a first failure triggers one reload without showing the boot error, while a stored reload marker leads to the boot error without another reload.
Shared startup state apps/web/src/main.tsx
The main module uses shared failure and reload-scheduled flags instead of local flags and a local preload-error listener. Startup skips boot-error handling when a reload is scheduled and clears the reload guard when no chunk-load failure occurred.
The app should reload once after a main-chunk failure. A focused test would strengthen coverage; no merge-blocking issue was found.

The title "fix(web): a failed main chunk load reloads once instead of showing the boot error" matches the main change. The title is a conventional commit, single sentence, and specific to the changed behavior.

Explanation
The description covers the problem, the change, verification, and a scope reference. The Problem and Change sections are complete and specific. The Scope and approval section links the issue (#26437) but does not include the maintainer approval comment or an explicit justification for a small fix without a prior discussion, which the template asks for. Verification is detailed, with test names, results, a mutation check, and a before/after runtime table. The template's Scope section is only partly satisfied, so the description is mostly complete.

Explanation
Issue [#26437] requires the main-chunk preload failure to use the one-time chunk reload path before main loads. bootstrap.ts calls handleChunkLoadErrors() before import("./main"). The shared state prevents showBootError while reload is scheduled. The new bootstrap tests cover the first failure and the repeated failure after the session-storage guard is set. The relay caching and cloudflared logging items are separate concerns and are not coding requirements for this fix.

Explanation
The changes are limited to bootstrap error handling, shared chunk-reload state, listener registration, and regression tests. These changes directly support issue [#26437]. No unrelated implementation is established by the reviewed evidence.

Exercise the real main.tsx startup after a prevented preload error.
Vite does not throw the preload error after event.preventDefault(), so the real import("./main") can reach main.tsx. The mock throws immediately after dispatching the event, which bypasses main.tsx and its startup promise. Add a focused test that asserts no render and no guard clearing while reload is pending.
