fix(mobile): sending on iOS no longer leaves an autocorrected draft behind - #26452
On iOS, if an autocorrection is pending when you tap Send (for example "teh" → "the"), the message goes out with the uncorrected word and the composer then fills back up with the whole draft, now containing the corrected word. You have to clear the composer by hand.
Reproduction: in any thread on iOS, type a sentence ending in "teh" so the keyboard shows the "the" correction, then tap the send button.
Change
Tapping the send button makes iOS accept the pending autocorrection in the native text view, which emits a change event. JS handles the press before that event arrives: handleSend reads and sends the draft with "teh" and clears it, then the late event's onChangeText writes "…the" back into the draft. The native view also keeps its text, because its revision guard rejects the cleared payload as older than its own edit.
The iOS composer view gets a readState function, and ComposerEditorHandle gets flushPendingInput(). On iOS it reads the native text and applies it through the same path as a change event when it is newer than what JS has seen, unless the latest native event was a paste. Acknowledging a paste's count there would make its own event, and the paste, be rejected. It does nothing on the other platforms.
ThreadComposer.handleSend awaits flushPendingInput() before it snapshots the draft. A send now includes an autocorrection accepted by the tap, as in iOS Messages. This covers thread sends and new-task starts, which both go through handleSend, and hardware-keyboard Return.
acknowledgeComposerNativeEvent now rejects an event whose count equals the last acknowledged one, so the original change event cannot apply the corrected text a second time after the flush and the clear. Each native emission (iOS and Android) increments its counter first, so equal counts only come from duplicates.
Scope and approval
Small, focused fix for an obvious bug: the composer should be empty after a successful send and should send what it shows. It changes only the iOS composer bridge and the send path in ThreadComposer. No contract, server, or web changes.
Verification
vp test run src/native/composerEditorRevision.test.ts: the new case fails on main (acknowledgeComposerNativeEvent(77, 77) returned 77) and passes with the fix.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck, and tests pass.
Manual, iOS 27 simulator (iPhone 16 Pro), dev client built from this branch against an isolated dev server. I reproduced the bug on main first, then ran the same steps on this branch. I typed the misspelling with real keyboard taps so iOS offered the correction, then tapped Send.
main: sent "…supabse teh"; the composer refilled with "…supabse the".
This branch: 12 of 12 sends went out with "…supabse the" and left the composer empty. A plain send with no pending correction behaves as before, and a 45 KB paste still becomes a pasted-text.txt attachment and sends.
A temporary trace of the editor's native events (not committed) showed iOS's correction event racing the send on main, and on this branch the send waiting until that correction was in the draft. In those runs the event landed during the flush's round trip; the flush applying it itself, and the duplicate check, are covered by the unit test rather than a live run.
Not checked: a physical iPhone, and Android. Android has no accept-correction-on-tap behaviour in play here, and its flushPendingInput does nothing; the stricter duplicate check also applies there, where every emission already carries a fresh count.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The mobile composer now reconciles pending iOS autocorrection before sending and ignores duplicate native events that could refill the cleared draft. Existing paste handling and submission guards remain, keeping the change narrowly scoped to editor synchronization.

The composer now reads pending iOS editor state before capturing a draft snapshot for sending. Native event acknowledgment rejects event counts equal to the most recently acknowledged count. The iOS editor also tracks whether its latest native event was a paste.
The acknowledgment check rejects equal event counts. Tests cover equal and lower incoming counts.

The iOS editor exposes its value, selection, event count, and paste flag. Its imperative handle reads and applies native state unless it is a paste. Other editor implementations add an async no-op flush method.

The iOS send fix may not take effect in every autocorrection ordering. A message could still be sent uncorrected and the composer refilled with the corrected draft. Make the native state read synchronize the live text and an acknowledgeable event count before merging, and check on a physical device.

Synchronize the live text and revision in readState().
During pending autocorrection, readState() can return the cached value while textView contains newer text. flushPendingInput() uses that state before ThreadComposer snapshots the draft.
Returning textView.serializedText() alone is insufficient. If the delegate has not emitted the correction, eventCount is also stale, and acceptNativeEvent() rejects the flush because it rejects counts less than or equal to the latest acknowledged count. Synchronize the live text with an acknowledgeable event count before applying the flushed state.

This doesn't yet cover an uncommitted IME composition (Japanese kana, the Japanese keyboard's ABC mode, and probably Chinese/Korean), which is the most common way I hit #20982. Suggesting a small addition on top of this PR.
What happens (traced on a device with logging in the editor and draft store, on top of this PR):
The last characters are still marked text when Send is tapped. readState returns the value with the marked text and the current event count, and flushPendingInput acknowledges it.
clearComposerDraftContent empties the draft, but the cleared controlled document has not reached the native view yet.
ThreadDetailScreen calls composerEditorRef.current?.blur() right after the send resolves. resignFirstResponder commits the composition, and the editor emits selection and change events (count +1…+5) that still hold the sent text.
Those counts are newer than the one the flush acknowledged, so JS accepts them and setComposerDraftText writes the sent text back into the empty draft. The draft is persisted, so it survives leaving the thread.
Suggested fix: commit the composition inside readState, so its change lands before the send snapshot and the later blur has nothing to commit:
funcreadState()->[String:Any]{
// Commit an active IME composition now, while the send reads the draft. Left
// marked, it is committed when the send blurs the editor, before the cleared
// draft reaches this view, and that commit's change event refills the draft.
iftextView.markedTextRange!=nil{isApplyingControlledValue=truetextView.unmarkText()isApplyingControlledValue=falseemitTextChange()}letselection=sourceSelection()...
emitTextChange() bumps the count and updates value, so readState returns the committed text with that count. The flush acknowledges it, and the async copy of the same event is dropped by the <= change in this PR. On device, several sends with uncommitted kana all cleared, where before the change the text came back about one send in four. The sent text is the committed composition, the same as iOS Messages.
This also makes #22843 (mine) unnecessary for the send path, since no composition is left by the time the clear arrives. I'll close it in favor of this.
closure is warranted under the verification rule. The timing-dependent iOS autocorrection/send change has static before/after captures and detailed manual results but no recording; the autocorrection defect is also superseded in scope by open PR #16890.
Attach a short recording of pending autocorrection, Send, corrected message and empty composer, and explain coordination with #16890 so the same correction is not implemented twice.
Reopening. An automated triage pass closed this by mistake; the closing comment above does not apply. Sorry for the noise.

Problem
On iOS, if an autocorrection is pending when you tap Send (for example "teh" → "the"), the message goes out with the uncorrected word and the composer then fills back up with the whole draft, now containing the corrected word. You have to clear the composer by hand.
Reproduction: in any thread on iOS, type a sentence ending in "teh" so the keyboard shows the "the" correction, then tap the send button.
Change
Tapping the send button makes iOS accept the pending autocorrection in the native text view, which emits a change event. JS handles the press before that event arrives:
handleSendreads and sends the draft with "teh" and clears it, then the late event'sonChangeTextwrites "…the" back into the draft. The native view also keeps its text, because its revision guard rejects the cleared payload as older than its own edit.readStatefunction, andComposerEditorHandlegetsflushPendingInput(). On iOS it reads the native text and applies it through the same path as a change event when it is newer than what JS has seen, unless the latest native event was a paste. Acknowledging a paste's count there would make its own event, and the paste, be rejected. It does nothing on the other platforms.ThreadComposer.handleSendawaitsflushPendingInput()before it snapshots the draft. A send now includes an autocorrection accepted by the tap, as in iOS Messages. This covers thread sends and new-task starts, which both go throughhandleSend, and hardware-keyboard Return.acknowledgeComposerNativeEventnow rejects an event whose count equals the last acknowledged one, so the original change event cannot apply the corrected text a second time after the flush and the clear.
