fix(mobile): Work on PR keeps its worktree when switching machines - #27658
On mobile, Work on PR opens a new-task draft set to New worktree · From PR #N. Switching that draft to another environment that hosts the same repository kept the #N chip but reset the workspace row to Current checkout · <that machine's branch>. Switching back gave Current checkout · main (or Choose branch). The draft said it was about the PR while the workspace no longer matched it, so sending ran on the wrong checkout.
Reproduced on main (6575ce3) with two isolated servers that both host a pingdotgg/t3code project, paired to the Android dev client on a Pixel 9: Pulls → https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/24707 → Work on PR → environment picker → second environment → back.
Change
Moving the draft to another environment goes through retargetNewTaskDraft, which dropped workspaceSelection on every move. It now takes a keepPullRequestWorkspace option. With it set, a selection that carries a pullRequestReference is kept, and its worktreePath is cleared because a path belongs to the old machine. The PR reference and head branch are enough for the destination to prepare its own PR worktree. Only selectEnvironment (the machine switch) passes the option, and only when the matched project's repository identity is known and equal to the current one (isSameRepository). A folder-name or title match can be a different repository, so it still resets. Picking a project still resets the workspace, and plain branch selections are still dropped on any move.
apps/mobile/src/state/use-composer-drafts.test.ts: "retargets a new-task draft to another project, keeping only a pull request workspace" fails on main (expected undefined to deeply equal { mode: 'worktree', … }) and passes here. It covers a plain branch selection being dropped even with the option on, the PR selection surviving A → B → A, and a move without the option dropping it. new-task-project-selection.test.ts covers isSameRepository: an identity match counts, a folder-name match does not. 91/91 in the two files.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck and tests pass.
Real app, before (6575ce3) and after (this branch). Android Pixel 9 portrait, light theme, 1080×2424, DPR 2.625. Same flow on both sides: Work on PR https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/24707 on environment A → switch to B → switch back to A.
an ordinary new worktree with no PR, still reset on switch;
picking a different project, still reset;
switching to the current checkout or changing the base branch after a move, which still clears the PR selection;
leaving and reopening the moved draft from the thread list;
an iPhone 17 Pro run of the round trip;
the destination going offline and reconnecting, which keeps the PR row after the fix and shows the current checkout before it;
restored drafts with unusual workspace shapes (a PR reference with a worktree path, local mode with a PR reference), seeded through the app's draft store as a labelled harness.
Before/after recordings, stills and diff images are not attached yet; they will be added to this PR.
Not checked: a destination with no usable model, scratch and non-Git destinations, a destination with several projects for the same repository, and attachment edge cases. The keyboard machine-cycle row ran through the app's command dispatch rather than an injected hardware key. Sending from the destination (the server's existing PR worktree preparation) was not exercised.

These tests reproduce #27616: retargeting a Work-on-PR new-task draft to
another environment's project drops its PR worktree selection, so the
round trip back cannot restore it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Switching a Work-on-PR new-task draft to the same repository on another
environment dropped its PR worktree selection, so the task fell back to the
current checkout on both machines. The same-repository environment switch now
asks the retarget to keep a selection that carries a pull request reference;
picking a project still drops it, as does any plain branch selection.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Switching machines now retains an explicitly selected PR workspace only when both projects identify the same repository. Machine-local worktree paths are cleared, and unrelated project switches keep their existing reset behavior.

Walkthrough
When environment selection finds a project with the same known repository identity, draft retargeting can preserve its PR-referenced workspace selection. The retained selection clears its machine-specific worktreePath. Without the preservation option, retargeting omits the workspace selection.

Explanation
Issue [#27616] requires a mobile new-task draft to keep its PR worktree selection when switching between environments with the same repository. selectEnvironment now enables retention only when isSameRepository finds equal known repository identities. retargetNewTaskDraft retains a selection with pullRequestReference and clears worktreePath, so the destination can create its local PR worktree. Plain branch selections, project changes, and name-only matches remain reset. The focused test covers retention across A → B → A and reset behavior.

Explanation
The changes stay within issue [#27616]. They update mobile draft retargeting, environment project matching, and focused tests for PR workspace retention and repository identity. The changes do not alter project-selection reset behavior or preserve workspaces for unrelated project, branch, or name-only matches. No unrelated product change appears in the reviewed diff.

Confirmed the cause in retargetNewTaskDraft: it strips workspaceSelection but retains the composer context. Our candidate a424907cc5446189e550a4ba2d24883c02103e5b preserved the PR selection only for environment switches, cleared the machine-local worktree path, and passed the same native round trip.
The regression failed before the fix. All 76 composer-draft tests passed on that candidate, vp run check:changed passed, and an independent Codex review found no issues. These are results for our candidate, not this PR.
No iOS run started. It was still queued when you took over, and I requested cancellation. Sending from the destination and starting a real provider turn were not tested. The Android app state was restored and our test connections, servers, and port forwards were removed.
Android before, on the main commit above: the environment round trip loses the PR workspace selection.

Android after, on our candidate above: Work on PR and A → B → A retain New worktree · From PR #26122 and the PR chip.
A machine switch can match the target project by folder name or title when
its repository identity is unknown; that project may be another repository,
so the PR checkout is kept only when both identities match.

Addressed in 6cef806: selectEnvironment now keeps the PR workspace only when both projects have a known repository identity and it matches (isSameRepository, tested in new-task-project-selection.test.ts). A name or title match drops it, as before this PR.

Add a provider-level test for same-repository environment switches.
The helper and matching tests exercise their functions directly, so they do not cover the keepPullRequestWorkspace argument that selectEnvironment passes. Changing that argument can break the fix without failing any inspected test. For example, keepPullRequestWorkspace: false for every match would restore the reported wrong-checkout behavior while the current suite stays green.
Add a test that calls the environment switch through NewTaskFlowProvider with a PR-referenced workspace that has a non-null worktreePath. It should assert that:
A same-repository match keeps the PR reference and clears worktreePath.
A name or title match with a different repository identity drops the workspace selection.

@coderabbitai On the provider-level test nitpick: not adding it. The two decisions have direct tests: retargetNewTaskDraft keeps a PR selection and clears its path only with the option, and isSameRepository accepts only equal known identities. A NewTaskFlowProvider test would only assert that selectEnvironment passes one into the other, and this repo's test guidance asks us not to add wiring-only tests. The integrated path is covered by the before/after Android round-trip recordings.

@juliusmarminge Agreed. I withdraw the provider-level test request. The direct tests cover PR selection retention, path clearing, and repository identity matching. A test that only checks how selectEnvironment connects those decisions would duplicate that coverage without testing another behavior.
This also matches the existing mobile testing guidance supplied here: do not request wiring-only tests without a concrete defect.

Learning: In pingdotgg/t3code mobile React Native reviews, distinguish provider-state regression coverage from consumer-level coverage. For PR #13085, apps/mobile/src/features/home/home-list-options.test.ts checks shared filter retention and clearing across repeated compact/sidebar remounts. The author also reports native control and Android query-retention verification. Additional consumer-level tests are a nonblocking improvement unless a concrete defect is identified; do not request tests that merely assert callback wiring or mirror implementation, as AGENTS.md excludes those tests.
