fix(cli): t3 thread finds the project from inside its git worktrees - #30802
t3 thread start <project> and t3 thread list (whose --project defaults to .) resolve a project from an id or "a path inside a project". Run from inside a T3-managed worktree (<T3 home>/worktrees/<project>/<id>, outside the project's folder), . matched nothing and failed with No T3 Code project matches '.', so agents in worktree threads could not start or list threads without passing an explicit project id. Reproduced on main 8b44f42: add a git repo as a project, start a thread with t3 thread start --worktree main, then run t3 thread list or t3 thread start . "..." from the worktree it created.
Change
resolveProject in apps/server/src/cli/thread.ts keeps its id and folder matching. Only when no project folder contains the path, it runs git worktree list --porcelain -z there (from the containing folder when the path is a file) and maps the path to the same relative path in each of the repository's other checkouts, using the existing deepest-folder match:
one project matches: that project;
none: the existing not-found error;
several (for example a repository's main checkout and one of its worktrees both added as projects): an error naming them and asking for a project id, instead of picking one.
Git before 2.36 rejects -z; like GitVcsDriverCore, the lookup then retries without it and normalizes the line output. Bare entries are skipped. The user guide's sentence on . in docs/user/outside-agents.md now mentions worktrees.
vp test run apps/server/src/cli/thread.test.ts: 8 passed. The new resolves a path inside a git worktree of the project's repository to that project uses a real repository and git worktree add: worktree root, a subfolder, a file path, a worktree made from a linked checkout that is itself the project, and the ambiguous case. It fails on main with ThreadProjectNotFoundError: No T3 Code project matches '.'.
The same test under a git wrapper that rejects worktree list -z (as git < 2.36 does) fails without the fallback and passes with it.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck (3 packages), tests all pass.

…rom its git worktree
resolveProject only matches a project id or a path under a project's
workspaceRoot, so running t3 thread start/list from a T3-managed git
worktree of the project's repository fails with ThreadProjectNotFoundError.
`t3 thread start` and `t3 thread list` matched a path only against project
workspace roots, so running them from a T3-managed worktree (which lives
under the T3 home, outside the project folder) failed with "No T3 Code
project matches '.'".
When no root contains the path, ask git for the worktree's top level and
common git dir and match the same path in the repository's main checkout
instead. Paths that already match make no git call; anything git cannot
answer still reports the project as not found.

…ository
Mapping a worktree path to the repository's main checkout picked the wrong
project when a project is rooted at a linked checkout, and rejected
repositories created with --separate-git-dir.
When no project contains the path, list the repository's checkouts with
`git worktree list --porcelain -z` and look for a project at the same
relative path in each other checkout. One match resolves; several matches
fail with a usage error that names them and asks for a project id. A
project root whose .git file points at the listed main entry stands in for
a --separate-git-dir main checkout, which Git lists as its git dir.

Explanation
Issue #30776 requires that t3 thread start infer the project when run from a T3-managed worktree without --project. The default . failed because the worktree lies outside the project's workspaceRoot. The diff adds a fallback in resolveProject (apps/server/src/cli/thread.ts). It runs only when no project root contains the path. It calls git worktree list --porcelain -z (with a line-output fallback for Git before 2.36). It maps the same relative path into each other checkout of the repository and matches the deepest project root. One match returns that project. No match returns the existing ThreadProjectNotFoundError. Several distinct matches return a ThreadUsageError that asks for a project id. The issue's reproduction uses thread start. thread list shares the same resolveProject path, so it also gains the fix. The PR description reports a before/after transcript for this case. The new test resolves a path inside a git worktree of the project's repository to that project covers worktree roots, subfolders, file paths, a linked checkout that is itself a project, and the ambiguous case. It also covers the -z fallback. I did not run the tests. I did not find evidence against the reported results. The issue's suggested alternatives (thread worktree lookup, T3CODE_THREAD_ID) are not required. The issue lists them as options, and the chosen approach meets the stated outcome.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changes connect to #30776. (1) listGitCheckouts and the worktree branch in resolveProject implement the requested inference. (2) The -z fallback to line output supports the same lookup on older Git. Bare entries are skipped. (3) Exporting resolveProject supports the test that exercises it directly. (4) The ProcessRunner import supplies the Git command runner used by the lookup. (5) docs/user/outside-agents.md updates the description of . to match the new behavior. The change is documentation for this feature. No unrelated refactor, feature, or file change appears in the reviewed diff. The test file change is supporting test coverage for the same behavior.

Preserve actionable Git failures.
If Git rejects -z, retrying without it is appropriate. If the second command also fails because Git cannot read the repository, Effect.option discards that failure. resolveProject then reports that no project matches, although checkout discovery failed. Preserve the second failure when Git identifies a repository, and return an empty list only when the directory is outside one. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

I inspected all three changed paths and the selected apps/server/src/cli/thread.test.ts on this head, then the actual all-event Actions inventory and CI job logs. This is a non-author technical COMMENT, not maintainer approval or proof of fleet deployment.
Qualified improvement versus #30786: resolveProject now enumerates all Git checkout candidates and uses a deduplicated project match set with an explicit ambiguity error, rather than selecting the first checkout. The fallback from git worktree list --porcelain -z to the non--z output is a concrete attempt to support Git versions before 2.36. The new real-Git fixture exercises worktree root, descendant directory, file path, a linked checkout registered as a project, and ambiguity. I found no additional demonstrated P1/P2 in those paths.
Remaining regression-evidence gap: The committed it.live("resolves a path inside a git worktree...") runs Git normally. It does not simulate a Git binary rejecting worktree list --porcelain -z while accepting the plain porcelain command. The PR description reports that a separate local wrapper check passed, but that wrapper is not part of this submitted test. Therefore passing project tests do not automatically verify the older-Git fallback on CI. A bounded committed regression should inject an isolated Git wrapper or ProcessRunner test layer that (a) rejects -z and returns valid non-NUL porcelain output, (b) verifies exact project selection and ambiguous-project rejection from that fallback, and (c) distinguishes a failure of both Git probes from a mere non-repository path. The already-posted CodeRabbit inline review independently raises the swallowed-failure case; I am not claiming it as a newly discovered defect.
Executed upstream evidence (not a run by me):automatic CI #41823707799 is terminal SUCCESS. The actual Test Server 8 job #126552969563 checked out synthetic merge 874948e, explicitly containing 94a0539 and base 8b44f42, and executed src/cli/thread.test.ts: 8/8 PASS. All eight Server shards and Lint succeeded. Build/Typecheck #126553038031 used that merge and reported 40/40 successful tasks. The same all-event head inventory has skipped preview/release-style workflows; these are not counted as passes. CI is useful source qualification, not older-Git negative-case or real fleet host acceptance.
Disposition: COMMENT; project-selection correction is source-supported, but request the explicit old-Git and both-Git-failure automated negatives before treating this competing candidate as fully qualified for a fleet route. No source changes, merge, CI trigger, browser/session or runtime action by this review.
