build: typecheck with tsrs and Effect's rules through @effect/tsgo - #31028
Typechecking ran on @tsc-rs/typescript, a typescript drop-in with an Effect language service frozen at its Oct 22 build. Newer Effect rules (mapConstToAs, flatMapIdentityToFlatten, globalJsonInEffect, ...) never reached us, and the drop-in's rule names have since been deprecated.
Every workspace now typechecks with effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit from @effect/tsgo. That is tsrs, the Rust TypeScript 7 checker, with Effect's diagnostics built in, so one command checks types and Effect rules. @effect/tsgo is the only checker dependency, and typescript is gone everywhere except apps/marketing, which needs it for Astro.
Config.preferSchemaOverJson is deprecated, and the deprecation warning failed every project. It is now globalJsonInEffect, including the 16 suppression comments that named it.
Dead suppressions. 32 effectSucceedWithVoid:off comments no longer matched anything. Each one guarded an Effect.succeed(undefined), which is now Effect.undefined (same type, no suppression).
New findings.ServerBrowser's synchronous queue compaction runs through a services-bound runSyncExit, like the file's existing runFork and runPromise. PullRequestService.test.ts forks with Effect.forkChild({ startImmediately: true }) instead of Effect.runFork, so the forked fibers see the test's services. Five client-runtime tests build a real BearerConnectionTarget instead of casting an object literal.
Mobile. Expo resolves typescript before start and run:*, and installs it into the project when it is missing. app.config.ts, which Expo evaluates first, sets EXPO_NO_TYPESCRIPT_SETUP so no launcher needs to know. Expo loads the config through Node's type stripping, as before.
Install. The pnpmfile hook that widened vite-plus-core's typescript peer is gone. With one typescript left, the lockfile has a single vite-plus-core variant.
Editor..vscode/tsdk/tsgo gives VS Code's TypeScript 7 extension the same patched tsrs. It execs the native binary: through the effect-tsgo Node launcher, the LSP's stdin read failed intermittently (EAGAIN, 5 of 6 handshakes). Through the wrapper, 8 of 8 handshakes succeeded and returned both TS and Effect diagnostics.
Verified: all 39 typechecking workspaces pass (apps/web and apps/desktop included), and a deliberate TS2322 probe still fails the check. The changed tests pass (PullRequestService, the four client-runtime state suites). apps/server typechecks in 14.6 s with tsrs, against 15.9 s with tsc-rs.
Windows: .vscode/tsdk/tsgo is a POSIX script, so the editor integration needs WSL there. The CLI typecheck works on every platform @effect/tsgo ships.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This migrates typechecking and editor diagnostics to Effect's tsrs checker, with matching documentation and small runtime adaptations. Existing suppression scopes and product defaults remain unchanged; no material operational or customer-data exposure is apparent.

Workspace typechecking switches to effect-tsgo tsrs, including VS Code integration. The changes also update Effect diagnostic settings and absent-value expressions, and adjust selected test fixtures and Effect execution.
Changes: Checker migration and compatibility updates
Workspace typecheck scripts use effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit, and the root dependencies and pnpm configuration are updated. VS Code uses the new tsgo launcher. Typecheck guidance is revised. The mobile app disables Expo’s TypeScript setup step.
|Update Effect diagnostic directives tsconfig.base.json, apps/server/scripts/*, apps/server/src/*, packages/provider-acp/src/*, packages/provider-testing/src/*, packages/shared/src/*, packages/source-control-*/src/*, scripts/mobile-behavior/*|The diagnostic configuration and selected source directives replace preferSchemaOverJson with globalJsonInEffect.|
|Use Effect.undefined for absent values apps/desktop/src/*, apps/server/src/*, packages/client-runtime/src/connection/*, packages/provider-cursor/src/*, packages/provider-opencode/src/*, packages/shared/src/nodeSqliteClient.ts|Several production paths and test mocks use Effect.undefined instead of Effect.succeed(undefined). The described optional-result and fallback behavior remains unchanged.|
|Adjust test harnesses and Effect execution apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowser.ts, apps/server/src/pullRequest/PullRequestService.test.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/*|Client-runtime test fixtures use BearerConnectionTarget. ServerBrowser uses a bound synchronous Effect runner for queue clearing, and a pull-request test starts its mutations as child fibers.|
The migration is broadly mergeable, but Windows editor users and contributors relying on diagnostic guidance may encounter avoidable setup or maintenance issues.

Explanation
The title "build: typecheck with tsrs and Effect's rules through @effect/tsgo" is a short, specific conventional-commit title. It names the primary change: replacing the TypeScript checker with the tsrs checker from @effect/tsgo, which applies Effect's rules. The diff and PR objectives match it: every workspace typechecks with effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit, and typescript is removed except in apps/marketing.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description covers the template's main sections in substance. The Problem is stated: typechecking used a frozen drop-in with outdated Effect rules, and the drop-in's rule names were deprecated. The Change explains the switch to @effect/tsgo, the rename to globalJsonInEffect, the suppression cleanup, the mobile and editor changes, and the pnpmfile hook removal, with reasons for each. Verification is detailed, with commands, results, and timings, and it notes the Windows limitation. The Scope and approval section is missing. The description does not link a triaged issue or maintainer discussion, and it does not explain why the change qualifies as an exemption. It also does not justify the scope of a change touching roughly 60 workspaces. The template's agent attribution line is present, as "Built with Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code". The template's HTML comments and section headings are removed, which is acceptable. The description is mostly complete, but the missing approval section is a required item in the template.
Resolution
Add a "Scope and approval" section. Link the triaged issue or the maintainer discussion that approved this direction and scope, and include the approval comment. If no prior issue exists, explain why this change qualifies as a very small, focused fix, or explain what existing capability it configures and why its effects stay within that capability. Keep the template headings (Problem, Change, Scope and approval, Verification) so the description matches the repository template.

Every workspace typechecks with `effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit`, which runs the
Rust TypeScript 7 checker with Effect's diagnostics built in. It replaces
@tsc-rs/typescript, whose Effect rules stopped at its Oct 22 build.
`typescript` remains only in apps/marketing, for Astro.
Renames the deprecated preferSchemaOverJson rule, drops 32 dead
suppressions, and fixes the findings the newer rules report.

Main moved every package to `effect-tsgo tsrs --noEmit` in pingdotgg#31028. The merge kept `tsc`, so the
server typecheck would have stopped applying Effect's rules. The incremental flags pass through.

script runs its effect-tsgo binary, which knip does not trace to the root
manifest, so the pre-commit knip check fails whenever a package.json is staged.
