  • Added details about supported work types and clarified the use of LL and PRP tests.
  • make -j$(nproc), because I just used it to save some time

I should also add that the product is in build-release. The product should be copied out alongside the {tune, ztune,z}.txt files when installing, though it should not overwrite any existing tune.txt.

gwoltman pushed a commit to gwoltman/gpuowl that referenced this pull request Sep 25, 2026
gpuowl users put their work in a single worktodo.txt. PRPLL (without -pool)
instead reads a per-instance worktodo-N.txt and, finding it empty, prints
"No work to do found. Add work to worktodo-N.txt." and exits — giving no
clue that the worktodo.txt sitting right next to it is simply the wrong
filename. Several mersenneforum users lost real time to this (threads
#173-177, preda#339): PhilF spent a day on it before finding the rename.

getWork() in Worktodo.cpp only reads worktodo.txt through the -pool path
(args.masterDir); without -pool it never looks at it at all, so nothing
about it reaches the log.

Fix: when getWork() finds no task in worktodo-N.txt and the instance is not
using -pool (masterDir empty), check whether a worktodo.txt exists in the
current directory (which already reflects -dir, since main.cpp chdirs there
before the worker loop starts) and append a one-line hint naming the file
PRPLL actually reads.

Tested on POCL (-device 1), fresh -dir per case:
- worktodo.txt only, no worktodo-0.txt: "No work to do found. Add work to
  worktodo-0.txt. Found worktodo.txt; PRPLL reads worktodo-0.txt (rename
  it)."
- worktodo-0.txt present (with or without a stray worktodo.txt next to it):
runs normally, no hint; res64 979fbaabb4408d50 @400 matches the existing
  POCL baseline.
- -pool in use: global worktodo.txt is read as before, and a worktodo.txt
sitting in -dir (not the pool dir) does not trigger the hint.
