Request to start German translation (de) repository #200

Description

@sba72

Hello Python Docs Team,

I would like to take the initiative to start the official German (de) translation of the Python documentation, filling the PEP545 guidelines.

Unfortunately, there is no official German translation activity an repository available under the Python organization.
Having a official start point is essential for attracting students and further interested persons from German-speaking community who want to help.

There is currently no official German translation repository available under the python organization. Having an official start point is essential for attracting students, beginners, and contributors from the German-speaking community who want to help.

Language: German (de-DE)
Coordinator: @sba72
Goal: Create the initial repository to start and build up a community

Could you please assist in setting up the python/python-docs-de repository and granting the necessary permissions to get started?

Thank you!

Hello Swen! It's great to hear that you want to start translating the documentation.

The good news is that you won't have to start from scratch as some of the translation work was already done on Transifex quite a while ago. I actually pulled it previously (I was using it to test some workflows), and you can find it here: https://github.com/StanFromIreland/python-docs-de

As explained in our guide for starting a new translation, the repository should initially be created under your own account, and it can later be transferred to the python organisation. The guide walks through all the necessary setup steps, but if you have any questions, feel free to ping or message me.

I'd also recommend joining the Docs Community Discord server. We have a #translations channel where several translation coordinators are happy to answer questions and help out. :-)

I'm closing this for now, we can return to setting up a repository under the python organisation in the future.

Hi Stan, small question to "you won't have to start from scratch ...".

I have forked the repo in my account: [https://github.com/sba72/python-docs-de] but I can't find any German translation in the repo?!
It is ok for me to start from scratch, but if there any relevant translation already available, then I would use this as base.
Thx for bring me on start!

You're free to start from scratch if you wish, the translation was done a long time ago, so I presume many messages have since been invalidated, some short ones survive:
