CheckReadOnly (pkgs/mcpx/internal/logstore/sql.go) allow-listed the pragma verb and never inspected the rest of the statement, so the documented read-only mcpx log sql surface executed PRAGMA assignments — triage task 1857 confirmed by executed probes on main: journal_mode=DELETE executes live, user_version=42 / application_id=7 persist across reopen, writable_schema=ON is admitted. The header comment claimed mutating pragmas "need a value that this refuses anyway" — no such refusal existed.
Fix
CheckReadOnly now refuses value-carrying PRAGMAs in both forms: name = value (any = in the PRAGMA remainder) and name(value) (parenthesised form refused except the established function-form reads).
Function-form reads keep working via an explicit set: table_info, table_xinfo, index_list, index_info, index_xinfo, foreign_key_list, foreign_key_check, integrity_check, quick_check — their argument names the object to inspect, not a value to assign. Schema-qualified forms (PRAGMA main.table_info(records)) handled.
Bare reads (PRAGMA journal_mode, PRAGMA user_version) keep working.
Header comment corrected to describe the refusal the code now implements.
…l guard
CheckReadOnly allow-listed the PRAGMA verb and never inspected the
rest of the statement, so PRAGMA journal_mode=DELETE,
user_version=42, application_id=7 and writable_schema=ON executed
through the documented read-only mcpx log sql surface (triage task
1857 confirmed by executed probes: header rewrites persist across
reopen).
Refuse PRAGMAs carrying a value in both name = value and name(value)
forms. Bare read PRAGMAs and the established function-form reads
(table_info, table_xinfo, index_*, foreign_key_*, integrity_check,
quick_check) keep working. Correct the header comment to describe
the refusal now actually implemented.
Guard tests cover rejected assignment shapes and retained reads;
a RunSQL-level test shows assignments no longer execute and
user_version stays 0.

PRAGMA validation and coverage pkgs/mcpx/internal/logstore/sql.go, pkgs/mcpx/internal/logstore/logstore_test.go
CheckReadOnly validates PRAGMA statements. It rejects assignments and unsupported parenthesized forms, while allowing listed read forms. Tests check accepted reads, rejected assignments, and RunSQL behavior.
Valid PRAGMA reads with quoted names are now rejected. The impact is narrow and unquoted equivalents remain available, so merging carries a bounded compatibility risk.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The whole-PR diff of sql.go changes only the guard and its header comment. It adds checkReadOnlyPragma, functionFormReadPragmas, and the call inside CheckReadOnly for the pragma verb. Each change implements the value-carrying PRAGMA refusal in #1664. The test diff could not be read. The PR summary describes its additions as PRAGMA guard tests and TestRunSQLRefusesPragmaAssignments, which also tie to #1664. No unrelated change is evident in the reviewed evidence.
Non-blocking observations, not out-of-scope changes:
Bare PRAGMAs with side effects, such as optimize, incremental_vacuum, and wal_checkpoint, are not value-carrying. #1664 accepts value-rejection as an alternative to an allow-list, so the guard does not need to refuse them.
Quoted names such as PRAGMA "table_info"(records) are refused because the name is not in the set. This is a false refusal of a read, not an out-of-scope change.

Explanation
Issue #1664 is the only active direct target. Its coding requirements are the guard rules, the read-pragma retention tests, the rejected-shape tests, the header comment fix, and a triage probe step.
Verified in source at head (sql.go diff against merge base):
Guard rule [#1664]: checkReadOnlyPragma refuses any PRAGMA remainder containing '='. This covers journal_mode=DELETE, user_version=42, application_id=7, and writable_schema=ON, with or without spaces and in any letter case.
Guard rule [#1664]: parenthesised PRAGMAs are refused unless the name is in functionFormReadPragmas. user_version(42) and journal_mode(DELETE) are refused.
Read retention [#1664]: table_info(records) and index_list pass through the function-form set. Schema-qualified forms are handled by stripping the prefix before the last '.'. Bare journal_mode and user_version have no '=' and no '(' and return nil.
Header comment [#1664]: sql.go lines 13-18 now describe the enforced refusal.
Not verified:
The test diff was unavailable. Reading logstore_test.go at head returned only the first 16000 bytes. The PRAGMA guard tests and TestRunSQLRefusesPragmaAssignments lie beyond that range. The PR description reports them, but I could not read them. Test coverage for the rejected and retained shapes is therefore unconfirmed.
The issue asks triage to run the prepared Go probe and confirm the mutations through RunSQL. The PR does not report this run. I treat it as a verification step, not a PR coding requirement. Its outcome remains unknown.
Resolution
Provide the content of pkgs/mcpx/internal/logstore/logstore_test.go at head, specifically the PRAGMA guard cases and TestRunSQLRefusesPragmaAssignments, so the test criteria can be checked. Confirm that the tests include the listed rejected shapes (journal_mode=DELETE, journal_mode=WAL, user_version=42, application_id=7, writable_schema=ON, and case/whitespace variants such as 'pragma user_version = 42') and the retained reads (table_info(records), index_list, bare journal_mode, bare user_version). The probe run is a separate verification step. Its result is not needed for the coding verdict.

Retain the read-only table_list pragma
When inspecting the log schema with PRAGMA table_list(records), RunSQL now rejects the query as a value-carrying assignment because table_list is absent from this allowlist. SQLite accepts this form as a read-only metadata query whose argument filters the tables to inspect, just like the retained table_info(records) form. Include table_list in the read-only set and cover it with a regression test so this previously working inspection remains available.

Fixed in afcce32: table_list added to functionFormReadPragmas in sql.go, with PRAGMA table_list(records) added to the retained-reads guard test. Targeted logstore tests pass on laptop (TestReadOnlyGuard|TestRunSQLRefuses).

Strip identifier quotes before the function-form PRAGMA allowlist lookup.
checkReadOnlyPragma refuses a quoted function-form read such as PRAGMA "table_info"(records). The name keeps its double quotes, so the lookup misses functionFormReadPragmas. The merge base accepted this statement, so the PR introduces the refusal. SQLite treats a double-quoted name as an identifier, so the statement is a valid read. Trim identifier quotes from the name before the lookup, and add the quoted form to the accepted-read test cases.
Suggested fix
- if !functionFormReadPragmas[strings.ToLower(strings.TrimSpace(name))] {+ if !functionFormReadPragmas[strings.ToLower(strings.Trim(strings.TrimSpace(name), "\"`[]"))] {
Based on learnings: "A bug gets a failing-first test in the same PR, covering its permutations, not just the one input that tripped it." Add PRAGMA "table_info"(records) and an equivalent bracket or backtick form to the accepted-read cases in TestReadOnlyGuardRejectsAnythingThatWrites.

CI note (queue task 4217, lane C): basic: lint and stress: PR changed tests fail on this PR in pkgs/mcpx/internal/conformance — features_test.go:308 etc.: test backends' Complete(...) returns []string where mcpserver.Backend now wants mcpserver.Completion. That package and signature are untouched by this diff (only internal/logstore/sql.go + its test changed), so the failure is pre-existing on the base main this PR branched from. The logstore package itself passes in full on the laptop (go test ./internal/logstore/ -count=1, 7.4s) and basic: plugin tests, docs and build checks pass here. Merging under the standing directive (verified fix + unrelated CI failure noted) rather than holding the guard fix hostage to the conformance breakage.
