Summary

  • Add a JSONC-aware static guard for known metered selections (cloudflare-* and direct PAYG deepseek) across model/provider routes, defaults, and agent models/fallbacks. Disabled providers remain covered.
  • Require a per-selection // payg-exception: <reason> marker for explicit approved exceptions; reject malformed or stale markers.
  • Add fixtures, a PR/merge-group/main CI workflow, and document the static-check scope and exception format.

Verification

  • node --test bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.test.mjs — 8 passed.
  • node bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.mjs .opencode/opencode.jsonc — passed.
  • git diff --check — clean.

Closes #2288.

Walkthrough

This change adds a Node.js guard for metered-provider selections in OpenCode JSONC configuration. The guard checks model, agent, and route selections, supports per-selection exception markers, and runs against the canonical config in CI.

Changes: Metered Provider Config Guard

Layer / File(s) Summary
JSONC parsing and source positions
bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.mjs, bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.test.mjs
The checker parses JSONC, tracks source positions, and reports malformed input. Tests cover comments, trailing commas, line endings, and duplicate keys.
Metered selections and exceptions
bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.mjs, bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.test.mjs
The checker inspects model, agent, and route selections for deepseek and cloudflare-*. Tests cover exception markers, route-map precedence, and the canonical config.
CLI, CI workflow, and policy
bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.mjs, .github/workflows/opencode-config-guard.yml, .github/ci-policy.md
The CLI reports checker results. The workflow runs the tests and checks the canonical config. The policy documents the guard and exception marker.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "ci: guard metered OpenCode provider selections (#2288)" matches the main change. The PR adds a static guard that fails CI when metered OpenCode provider selections (cloudflare-* and direct DeepSeek) appear in the canonical config without a valid payg-exception marker. The title uses a conventional commit prefix, names the guarded subject, and references the linked issue.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #2288 requires a config guard for metered selections, visible per-selection exceptions, documentation, fixtures, and CI coverage. bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.mjs checks cloudflare-* and direct deepseek selections in defaults, agents, model routes, and provider routes, including disabled providers. It rejects missing, malformed, stale, and misplaced markers. The tests cover an unmarked route fallback, marked exceptions, top-level route fallbacks, and the canonical config. .github/ci-policy.md documents the marker. .github/workflows/opencode-config-guard.yml runs the tests and canonical-config check on pull requests, merge groups, and main pushes.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changed files support Issue #2288. The guard implements the prevention check, the tests and fixtures verify its behavior, the policy documents its scope and exception format, and the workflow runs it in CI. No unrelated collector alert or unrelated runtime feature is added.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 8 functions across 2 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

P2 Badge Check runtime-supported top-level route definitions

When the canonical config uses top-level model_routes or provider_routes instead of their experimental equivalents, the guard silently skips those selections. These are active runtime inputs: bin/opencode-route-proxy.mjs:172-174 explicitly falls back to both top-level maps. For example, {"model":"opencode-route/workhorse","model_routes":{"workhorse":{"targets":["deepseek/deepseek-chat"]}}} produces no guard issues despite selecting the metered provider through the proxy. Mirror the runtime's fallback handling for both route maps so this supported configuration cannot bypass the exception requirement.

Fixed in 24f36ed (task 5235): the guard now mirrors the route proxy fallback for both maps — when the experimental model_routes/provider_routes map is present it wins, otherwise the top-level map is walked with $.model_routes / $.provider_routes paths. Added regression tests: metered target in top-level model_routes is rejected, PAYG provider in top-level provider_routes is rejected, and experimental precedence over a top-level map passes (mirroring bin/opencode-route-proxy.mjs). node --test bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.test.mjs: 11 pass, 0 fail, canonical config still passes.

The route proxy falls back to top-level model_routes/provider_routes when the experimental maps are absent (bin/opencode-route-proxy.mjs), but the metered-provider guard only walked the experimental maps, so a metered selection in a top-level map bypassed the payg-exception requirement (Codex P2 on PR #4165). Mirror the runtime fallback for both maps and add regression tests for top-level model routes, top-level provider routes, and experimental precedence.

P2 Badge Distinguish route names from selection-field names

When a model route is named model, this branch treats its entire definition as a model string, so addReference silently drops it. For example, {"model":"opencode-route/model","experimental":{"model_routes":{"model":{"targets":["deepseek/deepseek-chat"]}}}} returns no issues, although resolveRoute in bin/opencode-route-proxy.mjs resolves that route and selects DeepSeek. The provider-route walker has the same structural problem for a group named providers. Iterate the route-map entries separately from their definition fields so valid route names cannot bypass the exception requirement.

Fixed in 4432fc8. The walkers now iterate route-map entries as NAMES first (new walkRouteDefinition / walkProviderGroup handle the definition fields), so a model route named model and a provider group named providers are walked as definitions instead of being treated as selection fields. Regression tests added for both shapes ($.experimental.model_routes.model.targets[0] and $.experimental.provider_routes.providers.providers[0] now report the metered selection); node --test bin/check-opencode-metered-providers.test.mjs passes 13/13 on the laptop. — queue task 5235, Lane E

Nitpick Assert the parsed description value in the string-preservation test.

23-26: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low value

Assert the parsed description value in the string-preservation test.

The test that checks string preservation does not assert the parsed description value. A change that alters that text while keeping valid JSON structure would still pass. Keep the existing openai/gpt-6 check and add this assertion:

Suggested assertion
   assert.equal(root.type, 'object');
+  assert.equal(root.properties.find((p) => p.key === 'description').value.value, 'https://example.invalid/a//b, ]');

Nitpick Add a test for one marker above two metered selections.

93-93: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a test for one marker above two metered selections.

The check rejects a marker that sits above two metered selections on the same line. No test covers that path. The existing exception test places one selection under each marker. The rejection test covers only a marker with zero attached selections. A change that accepts every selection under a marker, and rejects only markers with no selections, would still pass the existing tests.

The added test asserts the rejection. It expects three issues: one for the marker and one for each selection the marker does not cover.

Add a regression test using checkConfig for one exception marker above two

for the marker and one for each uncovered selection, so the test verifies the

147-147: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a test for top-level provider-route shadowing.

The suite covers model_routes precedence but not provider_routes precedence. The runtime selects experimental.provider_routes as one map when it is present, and the guard does the same. A change that scans both provider maps can still pass every provider-route test. That change would report a top-level entry that the runtime ignores. Add this case after the model_routes precedence test:

🧪 Suggested test
   assert.deepEqual(checkConfig(config), []);

Add a regression test alongside the model_routes precedence test showing that
when both provider_routes maps are present, checkConfig ignores entries in the
top-level map and checks the experimental.provider_routes map, matching the
runtime fallback behavior.

Reconcile the merge-gate list with the basic-tier rule.

.github/ci-policy.md says the basic (PR) tier is the merge requirement. The new basic: OpenCode metered-provider guard job at .github/workflows/opencode-config-guard.yml:20 belongs to that tier. The merge-queue section still names basic: proxy port fallbacks as the only enforced check, so the document gives two different answers.

Update the merge-queue section to state which checks the queue requires. If the guard must block merges, confirm that its name appears in the live ruleset. If it is advisory, state that in the policy.

Report the file offset when a string literal has an invalid escape.

readString passes only the literal to JSON.parse. A position in the resulting error counts from the literal's start, not from the start of the config file. Other syntax errors in this file, such as those from fail, report a file offset. Nothing in parseJsoncTree, inspectConfig, checkConfig, or main catches this error. The CLI therefore prints an uncaught stack trace, as it already does for other syntax errors. Catch the parse error and rethrow it with the literal's file offset.

Update the string-literal parsing in readString to catch JSON.parse errors and
