## DB backups (design section 5)

Database dumps are a separate, simpler class: single self-describing files,
uploaded **unbundled** into `db-backups/<db>/` under the app-owned root
(`ensure-folders` creates the `supabase/`, `turso/`, and `d1/` subfolders,
idempotently). Files land with dated names —
`<db>-<YYYYMMDDTHHMMSSZ>-<basename>` — and every upload writes a
`backup-upload` row to the transfer ledger.

```sh
cold-store put-backup supabase pgdump-2026-10-26.sql.zst # prints the Drive file id
cold-store list-backups # all DBs, newest first
cold-store list-backups --db turso
```

**Retention is NOT enforced yet**: the design's 30 daily / 12 weekly /
12 monthly policy (trash, not delete) is pending a later version. Until
then, backups accumulate and pruning is manual.

## Manifest sync → D1

The local SQLite manifest is the reaper's working copy; the hosted copy
lives in the Cloudflare D1 database `cold-store-manifest`, where the
rehydrator Worker reads it. `sync-manifest` pushes all five tables
(objects, bundles, members, transfer_ledger, meta) with batched,
idempotent upserts (`INSERT … ON CONFLICT(<pk>) DO UPDATE`, primary keys
taken from `schema.sql`), so re-running is always safe and a failed run
resumes by simply running again. `--dry-run` prints per-table row and
statement counts and contacts nothing.

The API token comes from the environment only — materialize it from
Bitwarden, never store it:

```sh
CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN=<from Bitwarden> cold-store sync-manifest
```

Account/database default to the cold-store D1 database; override with
`COLD_STORE_CF_ACCOUNT_ID` / `COLD_STORE_CF_D1_DATABASE_ID` (env) or the
`cf_account_id` / `cf_d1_database_id` fields of `state.json`. The D1 base
URL is overridable via `COLD_STORE_D1_BASE` (used by tests).

## Rehydrator Worker

`worker/` holds the Cloudflare Worker that serves cold objects back:
`GET /fetch/<sha256>` (bearer auth) → D1 manifest lookup → a per-bundle
Durable Object single-flights a Drive Range pull of the one zstd frame,
decompresses it with a vendored pure-JS decoder, verifies the sha256, and
returns the bytes. See `worker/README.md` for endpoints, secrets, and the
API-driven deploy procedure.

P2 Badge Follow pagination when listing database backups

When a database folder has more than one page of backups, list-backups silently returns only the first page. The request excludes nextPageToken from fields, and the response handling never follows it. Drive's files.list documentation requires fetching additional pages when that token is present; pageSize=1000 is only a maximum page size, not a complete-list guarantee. Since retention is explicitly unimplemented, backups can accumulate beyond this limit and older recovery points disappear from the catalogue. Request the token and continue fetching until it is absent.

P1 Badge Size sync batches by D1's bound-parameter limit

Once the manifest contains 13 objects or 11 bundles, a generated statement exceeds D1's limit of 100 bound parameters per query: objects have eight columns and bundles have ten, but batches allow 50 rows regardless of column count. This makes sync-manifest fail on small, normal archives, and rerunning cannot resume past the offending statement. I reproduced the 13-object case with SQLite's variable limit set to 100: the generated 104-parameter statement fails with too many SQL variables. Derive each table's batch size from its column count.

Cap each D1 sync statement by bound-parameter count.

build_sync_statements sizes each upsert by row count only. Each row adds len(cols) bound parameters, so a full chunk can exceed the D1 per-query limit of 100 bound parameters. D1 rejects the statement, and sync_manifest stops with ColdStoreError. Tables after the failing table are not published.

The failing sizes follow from schema.sql:

  • objects has 8 columns. A chunk of 13 or more rows sends 104 or more parameters.
  • bundles has 11 columns. A chunk of 10 or more rows sends 110 or more parameters.
  • members has 4 columns. A chunk of 26 or more rows sends 104 or more parameters.

objects syncs first, so a manifest with 13 or more objects rows stops the whole sync before bundles is sent.

🐛 Suggested fix
 D1_SYNC_BATCH_ROWS = 50
+# Cloudflare D1 caps bound parameters per query at 100.
+D1_MAX_BOUND_PARAMS = 100
-            for i in range(0, len(rows), D1_SYNC_BATCH_ROWS):
-                chunk = rows[i : i + D1_SYNC_BATCH_ROWS]
+ # Size each statement by bound parameters, not only by row count.
+            per_stmt = max(
+                1, min(D1_SYNC_BATCH_ROWS, D1_MAX_BOUND_PARAMS // len(cols))
+            )
+            for i in range(0, len(rows), per_stmt):
+                chunk = rows[i : i + per_stmt]

Update the build_sync_statements docstring to state the parameter cap. It currently says each statement carries at most D1_SYNC_BATCH_ROWS row-groups.

Update build_sync_statements to limit each upsert chunk by both
D1_SYNC_BATCH_ROWS and the 100-bound-parameter cap, accounting for len(cols)
parameters per row. Update its docstring to describe the parameter limit.
