feat(cursor): bump SDK to 1.2.0 for ambient MCP, summarize, and maxMode - #26262
Cursor SDK 1.0.x wiped ambient project/user/plugin MCP whenever T3 passed its own t3-code server on send, so installed Cursor plugins disappeared from agent runs. Compaction still went through a /compress rewrite instead of the SDK summary API, and catalog maxMode variants could not be expressed (or optionally toggled) from model selection.
Change
Bump @cursor/sdk to 1.2.0 so send-level mcpServers no longer clears ambient settingSources, and unlock native summarize plus catalog maxMode.
Pass T3's t3-code MCP on every send again; compact via native summarize; project summary lifecycle into compaction turn items.
Derive maxMode from catalog variants; expose an optional Max Mode composer boolean when the same params have both max and non-max variants; ignore the option when the selected params have no matching max variant.
Fix review findings: keep the summary stream pump off callbackChain, reuse the timed status catalog result, and keep the Cursor user guide free of SDK API names.
Document ambient MCP/plugin loading and local-SDK OAuth limits (agent mcp login with cwd = project root; desktop Connections auth is not reused).
Scope and approval
Focused configuration of the existing Cursor V2 provider against the shipped SDK: ambient MCP/plugins already existed on disk; this restores them under 1.2.0 send semantics, wires the SDK's native summarize and maxMode surfaces, and documents OAuth limits that the local SDK still hard-rejects. No new T3 product surface beyond the catalog-driven Max Mode option already implied by Cursor model variants. Related: #16149 (Cursor model-option mapping).
Verification
vp run check:changed (format, lint, knip, typecheck, focused tests)
Live Cursor thread: ambient MCP from ~/.cursor/mcp.json / plugins appears alongside t3-code (settingSources: ["project","user","team","mdm","plugins"], send mcpServerNames: ["t3-code"])
/compact emits run.summarize → summary-started → summary-completed (no rewrite send)
sdkModel.test.ts: forced maxMode, optional Max Mode option (honored / cleared when params lack a max variant), capabilities descriptor when optional
OAuth plugin MCP: tools list without login; interactive auth not completable in local SDK (documented)
Could not re-check full agent mcp login + Restart in this pass (interactive CLI). Fork CI workflows remain action_required until a maintainer approves them.

🟠 Highserver/CursorAgentSdk.ts:473
A recognized summary message deadlocks the stream pump, so its onDelta update is never delivered and wait remains pending even after the SDK run completes. The pump occupies callbackChain, then dispatchUpdate appends its callback to that same chain and waits for it; keep the pump promise separate and await both promises in wait.

🟡 Mediumserver/driver.ts:267
A timed-out checkCursorProviderStatus probe does not publish its timeout snapshot until catalog.read(apiKey) finishes, so slow catalog requests still block refreshes and sign-in verification beyond the intended 15-second limit. This second read is awaited without a timeout; reuse the first catalog result or bound this best-effort read as well.

Walkthrough
The Cursor SDK dependency is upgraded to 1.2.0. The provider adds catalog-aware model selection and MCP server option handling. It also uses native SDK summary runs and projects summary updates and results as compaction turn items.

Summary
SDK summary run support apps/server/package.json, packages/provider-cursor/package.json, pnpm-workspace.yaml, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/CursorAgentSdk.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CursorAdapterV2.testkit.ts
The SDK dependency changes to 1.2.0. The session interface and run wrapper support summary runs and stream updates. The replay testkit handles summary-run frames.
The status check returns SDK catalog models, which the driver caches and provides to model selection. Selection uses matching variants to determine whether maxMode is required, and status capabilities include Max Mode when the catalog offers it optionally.
MCP server options and diagnostics packages/provider-cursor/src/server/adapter.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/CursorAgentSdk.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/adapter.test.ts, docs/orchestration-v2/orchestrator-mcp-server.md, docs/user/cursor.md
The adapter passes configured MCP servers on sends. Protocol diagnostics record server presence and sorted names. Documentation describes SDK MCP settings, ambient servers, plugins, and authentication.
Thread compaction calls the SDK summary operation instead of sending /compress. The adapter emits compaction items for summary updates and results, with tests covering the flow.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, and it is detailed. The Problem and Change sections are clear and specific. The Scope and approval section explains why the change is a focused configuration of an existing capability, which the template allows, and it cites related issue #16149. The Verification section lists concrete checks with results, and it states what was not checked: the full agent mcp login and restart flow. The description does not link a triaged bug issue or maintainer approval comment. The template asks for that when a change is not a very small obvious fix. The description also bundles several items: SDK bump, compaction, maxMode, review fixes, and docs. The template asks for one underlying problem per PR, and the description does not justify this bundling. The Verification section has no before/after evidence for UI changes, although the change adds a composer Max Mode boolean option, and the template asks for before/after screenshots for UI changes. Those gaps are not critical, but the description is mostly complete.

Keep the SDK summary stream pump off callbackChain so onDelta cannot deadlock wait, and return sdkModels from the timed status check so refresh no longer awaits a second unbounded catalog.read. Document that OAuth plugin MCP needs agent mcp login for the T3 project folder because local SDK runs reject interactive auth.

Stream pump deadlock — pumpDone is now separate from callbackChain; wait awaits both.
Unbounded second catalog read — checkCursorProviderStatus returns sdkModels from the timed probe; driver reuses that instead of another catalog.read.
OAuth plugin MCP research — folded into docs/user/cursor.md and the PR summary. Local @cursor/sdk rejects interactive MCP OAuth; T3 cannot host that flow. Users need agent mcp login for the T3 project folder.

When the SDK catalog has matching max and non-max variants for the same params, add a Max Mode option and honor it on send without forwarding it as a model parameter.

Composer can leave Max Mode on after switching to a param set that only has non-max catalog variants; require a matching isMaxMode variant before honoring the option.
