fix(cursor): Cursor no longer adds attribution when cli-config turns it off - #26908
Cursor adds a Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com> trailer to commits made through T3 even when ~/.cursor/cli-config.json on the server sets attribution.attributeCommitsToAgent and attributePRsToAgent to false. @cursor/sdk builds the request context from an attributionConfigProvider and defaults to attributing when there is none, but its local runtime never supplies one and never reads cli-config.json. No public SDK option reaches it (AgentOptions, Cursor.configure, local.subagentInherit were all tried), and 1.2.0 has the same gap.
Reproduced on main 35b298a with a real Cursor run: with both flags false, the agent ran git add hello.txt && git commit --trailer "Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>" -m 'add hello'.
Change
A pnpm patch of @cursor/sdk@1.0.38 makes the same two insertions in its esm, cjs and bundled builds:
The default local workspace runtime supplies an attributionConfigProvider when the user setting source is enabled (T3 enables it). It reads cli-config.json from CURSOR_CONFIG_DIR, else $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/cursor on Linux/BSD, else ~/.cursor, on every read. A missing or unreadable file returns nothing, which keeps Cursor's default of attributing.
The resource factory forwards that provider to the executor that builds the request context.
The patch is registered in patchedDependencies and pinned in overrides, like the other patched dependencies. The patch file is about 4.9 MB because the two minified chunks are single lines.
CursorAdapterV2 > honors the user's Cursor CLI attribution preferences (packages/provider-cursor/src/server/adapter.test.ts) runs the real SDK, built by makeCursorAgentOptions, against a loopback fake of Cursor's backend, with no network or credentials, and reads the request context it sends back. On main it fails with commitAttributionMessage: "enabled" and prAttributionMessage: "enabled"; with the patch both are absent. It also passes with CURSOR_CONFIG_DIR and XDG_CONFIG_HOME pointing elsewhere.
vp run check:changed passes on the merge with main (unused patches, format, lint, knip, typecheck of 36 packages, tests). packages/provider-cursor tests: 94 of 94 pass.
Runtime transcript: real authenticated Cursor runs through the CJS build T3 loads, unpatched vs patched, with a fresh HOME and repo per run:

Not checked: resume through a real run (the test's loopback fake covers create and send), PR attribution in a real run (covered by the test's prAttributionMessage assertion), native Windows and macOS, and the real Cursor CLI's XDG lookup (taken from Cursor's CLI configuration docs; no CLI on the runner).
Model and harness: Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code (lead, red test, implementation, review B) and gpt-6.1-sol in Codex (review A), orchestrated by T3 Code.
These tests reproduce #26889: with ~/.cursor/cli-config.json setting
attributeCommitsToAgent and attributePRsToAgent to false, the real
@cursor/sdk still sends commitAttributionMessage and prAttributionMessage
as "enabled" in the request context for agents built by
makeCursorAgentOptions. A loopback fake of Cursor's backend (RunSSE +
BidiAppend) captures the request context without network or credentials.

Cursor added a "Co-authored-by: Cursor" trailer to commits made through T3
even when ~/.cursor/cli-config.json turned attribution off. @cursor/sdk's
request-context executor reads attribution from an attributionConfigProvider,
but its local runtime never supplies one, so both flags default to true.
Patch @cursor/sdk@1.0.38 (esm, cjs and bundled builds) so the local runtime
supplies that provider when user settings are enabled. It reads cli-config.json
on each request from CURSOR_CONFIG_DIR, else $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/cursor on
Linux/BSD, else ~/.cursor, as the Cursor CLI documents. A missing or
unreadable file keeps Cursor's default of attributing.

The workspace pins @cursor/sdk to version 1.0.38 and registers a patch. The Cursor adapter tests add a loopback backend and verify that disabled commit and PR attribution settings produce no attribution fields in SDK requests.

Summary
SDK version and patch registration pnpm-workspace.yaml
Pins @cursor/sdk to version 1.0.38 and registers the patch, with a comment about honoring attribution settings from Cursor CLI configuration.
Loopback integration test packages/provider-cursor/src/server/adapter.test.ts
Sets up a fake Cursor backend, captures attribution fields from SDK requests, and checks that both fields are undefined when commit and PR attribution are disabled.
The attribution change appears mergeable with bounded risk, but the test should first prove it reads the request context and that disabling one preference leaves the other enabled.

Explanation
The directly linked open issue is #26889. The patch supplies the local SDK runtime with an attribution configuration provider when the user setting source is enabled. The provider reads cli-config.json from the documented configuration locations on each read. The resource factory forwards the provider to request-context construction. The reported integration test verifies that disabled commit and PR attribution fields are absent, and the real CJS runtime test reports that disabled settings remove the commit trailer while an absent file preserves attribution defaults.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed adapter test, SDK patch, and pnpm-workspace.yaml registration directly support issue #26889. The test validates the request context and alternate configuration directories. The patch implements the missing provider and forwarding path. No unrelated production behavior or unrelated feature is identified. The ignored lockfile is excluded from review and does not affect this assessment.

The test only covers { false, false }. A regression that suppresses both fields when one preference is false produces the same expected result. Add a mixed case, such as { false, true }, and expect the PR attribution field to be "enabled". This is separate from the request-context decoder positive control.

Prevent the attribution assertion from passing without a request context.
When success exists but protoGet(success, 1) returns undefined, Buffer.alloc(0) makes both attribution reads return undefined. The disabled-attribution assertion can then pass without testing the explicit false settings.
Also add a default-on control with an empty configuration directory and assert that both fields are defined. The context guard catches a missing context. The positive control catches an incorrect traversal of fields 26 and 27. A wrong outer message path already leaves success undefined and does not resolve the deferred.
