fix(web): editing a queued message keeps its thread mention chips - #30889
Editing a queued message on web or desktop dropped the formatting of its thread mentions. Queue a follow-up while a turn runs, mention another thread with the @ picker, then click "Edit queued message". The composer shows the mention as an unavailable reference: dashed-circle icon, plain bold text, aria-label "Unavailable context, <title>". It should show the resolved thread chip it had when typed. Reproduced on main (8b44f42) in the web dev app, at 1440 and 390 px wide.
Change
The edit composer resolves a mention chip from the draft's context records, but beginEdit only copied the message text into the queued-edit draft. The message's context records were never copied over.
beginEdit now seeds the edit draft with the message's thread and machine (environment) records whose reference still appears in the text. Records the text no longer mentions are skipped. Otherwise the draft setters would put their chips back into the prompt.
Saving the edit takes thread and machine records from the edit draft instead of re-adding them from the original message. A mention deleted while editing is therefore no longer sent.
When the run leaves the queue mid-edit and the edit is moved to the thread composer, the edit draft is now cleared. Previously the newly seeded records kept it alive in persisted state.
Mobile already seeds its edit draft with the message context and is unchanged.
apps/web/src/components/chat/useQueuedRunEdit.browser.test.tsx (10/10). New tests:
opens an edit with the thread records its mentions refer to covers a thread and a machine mention. It fails on main: expected [] to deeply equal [ Array(1) ].
opens an edit without records the message text no longer mentions: the prompt stays unchanged.
saves only the thread mentions still in the edited message.
apps/web/src/components/chat/queuedMessageEdit.test.ts (6/6). New test: removes a kept edit draft that held a thread mention.
vp run check:changed passes: format, lint, knip, typecheck, tests, React compiler.
Evidence: the real web app, each side on a fresh database created by its own server. Thread "Support Any File Uploads" is mentioned from a queued follow-up while another thread runs sleep 240, then "Edit queued message" is clicked. The environment is the T3 preview browser, Chromium 156 on Linux, no device emulation, DPR 2. The composer's model label is masked.

What else changed in the full frames, outside the composer:
the "Running sleep" shimmer phase, in all four rows;
the elapsed "Working for" counter in R2 (1m 19s / 1m 23s) and R3 (1m 31s / 1m 33s).
Both are live timers in two independently running apps.
An independent rebuild of R2 at a3e4564 matched the delivered composer region exactly (AE 0). The rest of that frame differed only in provider-generated text and timers.
R5 is a recording at 1440x1000, dark:
0–0.5 s: the queued row is visible and the composer is empty.
About 1.0 s: click "Edit queued message".
About 2.0–2.5 s: the composer fills. Before shows the dashed chip, after shows the resolved chip.
The elapsed counter reads about 19–22 s before and 22–25 s after.
The shimmer phase and the pointer and click-feedback timing differ.
After frames 028–029 show the queued row's 2:05 PM timestamp and a hovered Cancel button. No before frame shows them. Editing begins at before frame 025 and after frame 026 (12 fps).
The driver scripts were scratch, run through the app's own UI on synthetic data. They are not committed.
Not checked:
Machine mentions in the edit composer were not checked visually, because this setup has no second linked environment. The automated test covers them.
macOS desktop was not run; it uses the same web renderer.

Reproduces #30850: beginning an edit of a queued message whose context
carries a thread record leaves the edit draft without that thread context,
so the mention renders as an unavailable context chip.

Opening "Edit queued message" seeded the edit draft with the prompt text
only, so thread and machine mentions had no record behind them and
rendered as "Unavailable context" chips. The edit draft now starts with
the message's thread and environment records, and the save takes those
kinds from the draft alone, so a mention removed while editing is no
longer sent.

…ft on recovery
Opening a queued-message edit seeded every thread and machine record from the
message context, and the store re-inserted any record the text did not
reference, bringing back removed mentions and making an untouched edit look
changed. Seed only records whose reference appears in the message text.
When the run left the queue and the edit was kept, moving it to the thread
draft left the edit draft's mention records behind, so the queued-edit draft
persisted forever. Clear the edit draft after the move too.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Queued-message edits now retain thread and machine mention chips and honor their removal when saved. The change is limited to the edit draft and its cleanup, with existing submission safeguards unchanged.
You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more.
Queued-run edits now restore thread and environment context records referenced in message text. Saving an edit omits removed draft-owned records. Queued-message recovery also clears composer content for every recovery result.
Editing a queued run restores thread and environment records referenced in the prompt. Saving omits removed draft-owned records and retains attachment records only when their attachments remain. Tests cover restoring, excluding, and saving context records.
A queued edit recovered into the composer can lose its thread or machine mention; a mention-only edit can become empty. Preserve the mentions before merging.

Explanation
The title "fix(web): editing a queued message keeps its thread mention chips" matches the main change. The PR seeds the queued-edit draft with thread and machine context records, so edited messages keep resolved thread mention chips instead of showing unavailable references. The title is a conventional commit, is specific, and avoids file lists and vague terms.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #30850 requires the edit composer to show a thread mention as a resolved chip (thread icon and link color), not as plain bold text with a dashed-circle placeholder. The root cause is that beginEdit copied only the message text. At head, useQueuedRunEdit.ts now looks up the message context (serverProjection messages, by request.messageId), keeps only thread and environment records whose contextId appears in the prompt via collectInlineContextIds, and seeds them into the edit draft with setThreadContexts and setEnvironmentContexts before queuedRunEdits.begin. The edit composer resolves chips from these draft records, so the chip can render resolved again. Save-side changes keep the edit draft as the source of thread and environment records, so the seeded state persists correctly through a save. The PR reports before and after composer captions on the web dev app at 1440 and 390 px, light and dark, plus a passing browser test that fails on main (expected [] to deeply equal [ Array(1) ]). I did not view the linked images or re-run the tests. Those results rest on the PR report and the source diff. Machine mentions were not checked visually; the PR says an automated test covers them. The issue environment is macOS desktop, while the PR verified the web renderer, which the PR states is the same renderer. No non-coding requirements exist in the issue.

Explanation
All changed source hunks connect to the mention-chip restore flow in the queued edit. (1) useQueuedRunEdit.ts beginEdit: seeding thread and environment records, which fixes the issue. (2) useQueuedRunEdit.ts submitQueuedRunEdit: keptRecords now excludes thread and environment records from the original message. Without this, a mention removed during editing would be re-sent, and the draft setters would restore chips the text no longer contains. This is a needed consequence of the seeding. Attachment records still follow the existing existingAttachments check. (3) queuedMessageEdit.ts recoverQueuedMessageEdit: clearComposerContent for editTarget now runs on the "kept" branch too. Without this, the newly seeded records keep the edit draft alive in persisted state after the edit moves to the thread composer. This is a needed consequence of the seeding. (4) Tests in useQueuedRunEdit.browser.test.tsx and queuedMessageEdit.test.ts cover these paths. The PR states that mobile is unchanged, and the diff reviewed shows no mobile file changes. No unrelated files or refactors were found in the reviewed source hunks. I did not inspect the test file hunks directly; their relevance rests on their names and the PR description.

Explanation
The description follows the repository template closely. It states the problem with reproduction steps and environment, and it explains the change across the three affected hooks and tests. The Verification section lists focused test results, the screenshots and recording evidence, and what was not checked. The Scope and approval section links the issue (#30850) but gives no maintainer approval comment or explanation of why a prior discussion was unnecessary. The template requires that link or discussion with explicit maintainer approval. The description is otherwise complete and specific.
Resolution
Add the approval evidence to the Scope and approval section. Link the triaged issue #30850 with the maintainer comment that approved the direction and scope. If no maintainer approved it, explain why this bug fix qualifies as a very small, focused fix of an obvious bug without a prior issue or discussion. Also add the model and harness used if an agent did the work, since the template asks for that at the end of Verification.
