ci(release): JS bundle jobs stop building an unused Linux helper - #31941
The release Build JS bundle job and the macOS preview bundle job compile the Linux browser secret helper and install libsecret headers for it. Neither job uploads that helper. Each Linux package job already compiles its own per-arch helper (stageBrowserSecret), and all six desktop targets wait for the JS job. In the last 5 release runs with that step, the apt install took a median of 18s (17s to 21s). In this example job it took 21s, and the build itself took 9s.
Fix: add a @t3tools/desktop#build:bundle task (annotation CSS + vp pack, depends on t3#build) and a root vp run build:desktop:bundle script. The two CI bundle jobs use it and drop the apt mirror and libsecret steps. vp run build:desktop and the desktop build task do not change, so local builds, CI's desktop build check and packaging still compile the helper.
Verification (Linux x64):
vp run build:desktop:bundle with pkg-config, cc and gcc set to fail and CC=false: passes. It runs web, server and desktop bundle tasks and writes no helper.
vp run build:desktop with the same broken toolchain fails on the helper. That shows the test toolchain was really broken.
vp run build:desktop normally: passes and builds the x64 ELF helper.
build-desktop-artifact.ts --platform linux --target dir --arch x64 --skip-build on the bundle-only output: resources/browser-secret/t3-browser-secret is in the package.
vp test run apps/desktop/scripts/browser-secret-native.test.mjs and vp run check:changed: pass.
The time saved is the measured duration of the removed step. I did not measure the end-to-end effect on release wall time.
Older sources: release.yml can build an older ref (a manual stable release, or nightly c55db3e9c72 which has build:desktop but no build:desktop:bundle), and the macOS preview builds a PR head that may predate this change. A first step now reads the checked-out package.json. If build:desktop:bundle is missing, the job runs the apt mirror setup, installs libsecret, and runs vp run build:desktop as before. Otherwise it skips those steps and runs vp run build:desktop:bundle.
Old/new source verification (a local runner executes the real workflow steps against each checkout):
Before this fix, vp run build:desktop:bundle on c55db3e9c72 fails with Task "build:desktop:bundle" not found, exit 1.
release.yml and desktop-macos-preview.yml on c55db3e9c72: selects build:desktop, runs the apt mirror and libsecret steps, and the full build passes. It builds the x64 ELF helper.
Both workflows on this branch with the broken toolchain: selects build:desktop:bundle, skips both apt steps, passes, and builds no helper.
Packaging (--skip-build, linux dir x64) from the new bundle output still contains resources/browser-secret/t3-browser-secret.
actionlint reports no new findings. vp run check:changed passes.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Release and macOS-preview bundle jobs skip an unused Linux helper build while retaining compatibility with older refs. Artifact contents remain unchanged, and Linux packaging independently builds its architecture-specific helper.

Walkthrough
The desktop workspace adds a bundle build task. The macOS preview and release workflows select it when available and use the legacy build otherwise. Linux browser secret-helper libraries are installed only for the legacy build.
Changes: Desktop bundle build
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Define the desktop bundle task apps/desktop/vite.config.ts, package.json
The desktop workspace adds a build:bundle task that builds preview annotation CSS and packages the app. The task depends on t3#build and disables caching. The root package adds a script to run this task.
Select the build task in CI .github/workflows/desktop-macos-preview.yml, .github/workflows/release.yml
Both workflows select build:desktop:bundle when it is defined and otherwise select build:desktop. They install Linux browser secret-helper libraries only for the legacy build.
Bundle jobs skip helper compilation, while Linux packages build it separately. No merge-blocking issue remains.

Release and macOS preview bundle jobs can check out a ref from before
build:desktop:bundle existed. Those refs now install libsecret and run
build:desktop as before.
