test: align nixpkgs lock expectations with direct inputs - #5731
The test oracle still expected the removed nixpkgs-master and nixpkgs-stable inputs and treated the root and pkgs/id lockfiles as if they were the same graph. That expectation drifted from the intentional input changes in #3327 and the current declarations:
flake.nix retains a direct nixpkgs-25 input; nixpkgs-unstable follows fleet/nixpkgs, so it is correctly excluded by discover_inputs as a follows reference.
pkgs/id/flake.nix declares its own direct nixpkgs input.
Change
Update scripts/tests/test_update_nixpkgs_inputs.py to assert each lockfile against its own direct nixpkgs inputs, while running both byte-identical updater copies against both lock graphs. No lockfile or production code changes.
No Actions check was created for this PR. .github/workflows/scripts-test.yml is disabled_manually in GitHub and declares only workflow_dispatch; a manual dispatch attempt is rejected. The targeted suite passed locally. This broader trigger/enablement gap is already tracked under #5149 and is intentionally not folded into this test-only fix.
Review note
Confidence is high: the change corrects only the stale test oracle and adds explicit coverage for both current lock graphs. Human check before merge: confirm that any future root/sub-flake nixpkgs input changes also update the corresponding expectation here.
The current-flake discovery test now checks the root and pkgs/id lock graphs separately for both script copies. The root graph expects only nixpkgs-25; the pkgs/id graph expects only nixpkgs.
The change aligns discovery tests with each lockfile’s direct inputs without modifying production code or lockfiles. No merge-blocking issue is identified.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "test: align nixpkgs lock expectations with direct inputs" matches the main change. The PR updates the test expectations in scripts/tests/test_update_nixpkgs_inputs.py so each lockfile is checked against its own direct nixpkgs inputs, replacing the root-only four-input expectation. The title is specific and follows a conventional commit style. It does not cover the two-copy verification, but it does not need to.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #5725 asks to decide whether the flake.lock state or the test expectation is wrong, then fix the wrong one so the test passes. The PR changes only the test expectation. The reviewed diff replaces test_current_flake_lock_keeps_the_four_intended_inputs with test_current_flake_locks_expose_only_their_direct_nixpkgs_inputs. The new test expects ["nixpkgs-25"] for the root flake.lock and ["nixpkgs"] for pkgs/id/flake.lock. Both copies of discover_inputs run against both lock files. The reviewed flake.nix supports the new expectation. It declares nixpkgs-25.url as a direct input. It sets nixpkgs.follows = "nixpkgs-unstable" and nixpkgs-unstable.follows = "fleet/nixpkgs". Its comment states that the master and stable inputs were removed in #3327. The reviewed pkgs/id/flake.nix declares its own direct nixpkgs.url. The old expectation therefore was stale, which matches the issue's first option. The lockfile and production code are unchanged. Not verified: this review did not read flake.lock or the discover_inputs body. The reported 14-test passing run was not reproduced. The PASS rests on the declarations and the diff.

Explanation
The whole-PR diff against the merge base touches one file, scripts/tests/test_update_nixpkgs_inputs.py. The only hunk replaces the single test method tied to #5725 with a version that checks both lock graphs for both updater copies. No lockfile, flake declaration, or production script changes appear in the reviewed diff. The change supports the issue objective and does not add unrelated behavior. Residual uncertainty: the runpy import used by the new test body is not shown in the hunk. It is assumed to exist at the top of the file, because the author reports the test module runs with 14 passing tests.
