fix(id/web): classify_tag only treats auto-{ISO_DATE} names as auto-backups - #810
classify_tag in pkgs/id/src/web/routes.rs returned FileKind::Auto for any name starting with auto-, discarding the fact that parse_iso_timestamp returned None. Now the Auto classification is gated on the remainder actually parsing as an ISO date; an ordinary file that merely starts with auto- falls through to Primary (or Archive, if it also matches that pattern).
Verification
Reproduction (verbatim copies of parse_iso_timestamp/is_leap_year + old vs new classify_tag, compiled and run standalone):
auto-notes.txt — old (Auto, None) → new (Primary, None)
auto-2026-report.md, auto-, auto-draft — same correction
auto-2026-03-12T06:42:30.015Z — (Auto, Some(1773297750)) both ways (unchanged)
notes.md.archive.1711000000 — Archive both ways (unchanged)
New regression test test_classify_tag_auto_prefix_non_date_is_primary covers the four non-date shapes; the existing test_classify_tag_auto still covers the well-formed case.
cargo check --tests PASS on this branch (only the 2 pre-existing lib warnings).
The full lib-test binary could not be linked in this sandbox (GNU ld OOM-killed at 7 GB RAM linking the wasmtime-heavy test binary — compilation itself succeeded), so the in-repo test run is left to CI; the standalone verbatim harness above exercises the exact old/new function bodies.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Names beginning with auto- are classified as automatic only when followed by a valid ISO timestamp. Invalid or missing timestamps are treated as primary names.
…ackups
Any filename starting with 'auto-' was classified FileKind::Auto even
when the remainder was not a date, so ordinary files like
auto-notes.txt sorted out of the primary list and rendered with an
'auto: ?' badge. Gate the Auto classification on parse_iso_timestamp
succeeding, and add regression tests for non-date auto- names.

Walkthrough
classify_tag now classifies an auto- name as Auto only when its suffix parses as an ISO timestamp. Non-date and empty suffixes are classified as Primary with no timestamp. Regression tests cover four non-date names.

Summary
Classification and regression test pkgs/id/src/web/routes.rs
classify_tag returns Auto only for parseable ISO timestamps. The regression test checks that four non-date auto- names return Primary with no timestamp.
Some ordinary timestamp-shaped filenames with extensions still appear as auto backups in file listings. The change is mergeable with that bounded issue accepted or fixed.

Explanation
[#809] The reviewed head changes classify_tag in pkgs/id/src/web/routes.rs. The auto- branch now returns (FileKind::Auto, Some(ts)) only when parse_iso_timestamp(iso_str) returns Some. Otherwise the function continues to the .archive. check and then returns (FileKind::Primary, None). Checked against the code: auto-notes.txt, auto-2026-report.md, auto- and auto-draft yield None from parse_iso_timestamp and therefore fall through to Primary. auto-2026-03-12T06:42:30.015Z still returns Auto with Some(ts). The .archive. branch code is unchanged. Per the PR summary, the new test test_classify_tag_auto_prefix_non_date_is_primary covers the four non-date shapes, and test_classify_tag_auto covers the valid date. I did not read the test body because the file read was truncated. The test run was not executed here; the PR reports the full lib-test binary could not be linked in the author's sandbox and defers the run to CI. The coding requirements of #809 are met by the implementation.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The whole-PR diff (merge base aa853c4 to head 3e6f72f) touches one file, pkgs/id/src/web/routes.rs, with +17/−4 lines per the PR summary. The functional change is confined to the auto- guard in classify_tag. The added regression test for the same function is a supporting change for #809 acceptance criteria. No unrelated modules, declarations, or public entities changed per the raw summary. The one behavioral side effect is that an auto-….archive.<ts> name now classifies as Archive instead of Auto. This follows directly from the #809 rule that a non-date auto- remainder must not be Auto, so it is in scope. Residual note, not a scope failure: parse_iso_timestamp accepts some loosely formatted values, and range validation is tracked separately under #756.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Reject non-digit fractional suffixes.
auto-2026-03-12T06:42:30.md satisfies the current parser because it removes .md. This violates the PR requirement that only auto-{ISO_DATE} names are Auto. The file receives Auto listing behavior, including backup ordering and parent resolution. Preferred-name selection is not always affected.
This is a narrow residual case, but the correction is localized and preserves valid fractional timestamps.

Sweep unblock (2026-10-24 run): merged current main d95000a into this branch (add-commit 840abb4, ls-remote verified). This PR's previous nix flake check FAILURE (run 40145644240) was infra-only: Magic Nix Cache HTTP 418 throttling / GitHub API rate limit (#774 cluster) — no check ran. Fresh CI on the merged head is the gate — will merge + close #809 when the flake leg passes.
