Adds one scheduled GitHub Actions workflow, flake-inputs-update, that keeps the openchamber and opencode flake inputs current on its own:
Daily (07:23 UTC, an hour after OpenChamber's own opencode-update run lands) plus workflow_dispatch.
Updates only the openchamber and opencode inputs. The openchamber input's inputs.opencode.follows = "opencode" is untouched, so OpenChamber keeps evaluating against this repo's opencode pin.
Validates the flake by evaluating the outputs that consume the pins — the openchamber and opencode package derivations — plus the default dev shell (the same style of check as the existing nix ci evaluation job). This repo has no OpenChamber-specific test suite, so no test suite is run.
If validation passes and flake.lock moved: commits the lockfile to a fresh branch, opens a PR, and merges it (direct merge, falling back to auto-merge).
Failure tracking
Failures land in one issue titled chore(deps): automated openchamber+opencode input update failing:
First failure opens it with the attempted revs, the failing step, an error excerpt, and the run link.
Later failures edit that same issue in place — attempt count increments, first-failure time is preserved, last-failure time, newest attempted revs, and a per-attempt history entry are updated. A different (still broken) rev goes to the same issue, never a new one or a duplicate PR.
A failure never disables future runs; every scheduled run retries with the newest revs. While the issue is open, validation runs even when the lockfile doesn't move, so a manual fix elsewhere is verified too.
The next success closes it: the update PR's body carries Fixes #<n>, and after merging, the workflow comments the passing revs and merge commit on the issue and closes it (if the PR went the auto-merge route, the comment names the fixing PR and the Fixes line closes the issue when it lands).
Pure bash + gh — no AI steps. This complements the existing Jules daily flake sync, which covers broader flake maintenance; this workflow is narrower (two inputs), deterministic, and self-merging.
Validation
YAML parses; the file is prettier-clean under the repo's treefmt config (prettier --write reports it unchanged).
The workflow mirrors the manual input bump process (update → evaluate → PR → merge) with the same commands.
After merge, a workflow_dispatch run exercises it end to end.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Chores
Added automated checks for selected application updates, with successful changes reviewed through pull requests.
Failed updates are tracked and retried, and the tracking item closes after a successful update or validation.
Daily workflow that updates only the openchamber and opencode flake
inputs, validates the flake by evaluating the outputs that consume
them, and on success opens a PR for the lockfile change and merges it.
Failures are tracked in a single self-maintained issue (opened on first
failure, edited in place per attempt, closed by the next success).
Adds a scheduled and manually triggered workflow that updates the openchamber and opencode flake inputs, validates selected outputs, records failures in an issue, and publishes successful lockfile changes through pull requests.

Summary
Schedule and update inputs .github/workflows/flake-inputs-update.yml
Adds scheduled and manual triggers. The workflow records existing revisions and updates only the openchamber and opencode inputs.
Conditionally evaluates the default x86_64-linux dev shell and both package outputs, then selects the run outcome.
Record failed attempts .github/workflows/flake-inputs-update.yml
Creates or updates a failure issue with attempt history, revisions, the failed step, a run link, and a capped log excerpt.
Publish changes and close issues .github/workflows/flake-inputs-update.yml
Creates a pull request for a changed lockfile and attempts a direct merge or enables auto-merge. Closes an open failure issue after a direct merge or after successful validation with no lockfile change.

developing-today/openchamber#449 — The workflow adds a similar failure-issue lifecycle, but it evaluates package derivation paths rather than building openchamber, so it does not address the reported build failure.
Merge Risk: Low · up to 9e954
The workflow can lose reliable failure tracking in the identified edge cases and may leave an unsuccessful update PR open. These bounded operational risks merit owner follow-up, but do not establish a general failure of scheduled updates.

Filter tracking issues before applying the fetch limit
If the tracking issue falls outside the first 100 open issues, this lookup treats it as absent: subsequent failures create duplicate tracking issues, and successful runs cannot close the existing issue or trigger the intended unchanged-pin revalidation. gh issue list --help describes --limit as the “Maximum number of issues to fetch,” so filtering the returned JSON cannot recover an excluded issue. Apply a server-side title search before limiting the results, while retaining the exact-title check.

Make publication branches unique across run attempts
If publication fails after pushing the branch but before merging the PR, a same-day rerun recreates the same branch from main and commits the update again. GitHub documents that GITHUB_RUN_IDdoes not change on reruns, so the existing remote branch collides with the newly created commit. The unconditional git push origin on line 218 then rejects the update because “only fast-forward updates are allowed”. This prevents rerunning the failed job to recover from a transient PR creation or merge failure; include GITHUB_RUN_ATTEMPT in the branch name or resume publication using the existing branch and PR.

Bound the accumulated failure history
For persistent failures with near-5KB error excerpts, copying the entire previous history into every replacement body exceeds GitHub's 65,536-character issue-body limit after approximately 13 attempts; this limit is also documented by a Go build-infrastructure fix for the same API rejection. Replaying this workflow's body-generation script with full-sized ASCII excerpts produced a roughly 69KB body on attempt 13. At that point, issue editing fails on every subsequent failed run, leaving the attempt count, latest revisions, and error details permanently stale until recovery or manual intervention. Cap the total retained history or store individual attempts in separate comments.

Find the failure issue with a title search instead of --limit 100.
gh issue list --limit 100 returns the 100 newest open issues. If the repository has more than 100 open issues, an older failure issue is not in the list. The workflow then finds no existing issue and opens a duplicate. This breaks the "ONE issue" contract. It also loses the attempt count and prevents Fixes #<n> from linking the right issue.
Search by title instead.

Cap the failure history so the issue body stays under the GitHub size limit.
Each failed attempt appends an entry of up to about 5 KB to the issue body. Line 161 copies the full previous history on every run. GitHub limits an issue body to 65,536 characters. After roughly 13 consecutive daily failures, gh issue edit is likely to be rejected. The step then stops before the issue is updated, so the tracking issue goes stale.
Keep only the most recent entries. For example, keep the last N attempts and replace older ones with a one-line count.

Handle the case where both direct merge and auto-merge fail.
Under the default bash -e, the step exits if gh pr merge --auto fails. This can happen if auto-merge is disabled for the repository. The job then fails, but the failure is not recorded in the tracking issue. The pushed branch and open PR stay behind. The next daily run opens another PR from a new branch.
Close the PR and delete the branch before exiting, or record the failure on the tracking issue.
