# Keeps the flake's openchamber and opencode inputs current with
# developing-today/openchamber and developing-today/opencode. The openchamber
# input keeps its `inputs.opencode.follows = "opencode"`, so the two pins
# always move together against the same opencode rev.
#
# Daily (and on demand): update only those two inputs, then validate the
# flake by evaluating the outputs that consume them (plus the dev shell the
# repo's own nix-ci evaluates). This repo has no OpenChamber-specific test
# suite, so evaluation is the check — no full test run. If validation passes
# and flake.lock moved, the change lands as a pull request that this
# workflow merges itself.
#
# Failures are tracked in ONE issue (title in FAILURE_ISSUE_TITLE below):
# the first failure opens it, later failures edit it in place (attempt count,
# first/last failure times, one history entry per attempt), and the next
# success closes it — the successful update PR carries a "Fixes #<n>" line,
# and the merge step comments the passing revs before closing. A failed run
# never disables later runs: every scheduled run retries with the newest
# revs, and while a failure issue is open validation runs even when the
# lockfile did not move, so a manual fix is picked up too.

P2 Badge Filter tracking issues before applying the fetch limit

If the tracking issue falls outside the first 100 open issues, this lookup treats it as absent: subsequent failures create duplicate tracking issues, and successful runs cannot close the existing issue or trigger the intended unchanged-pin revalidation. gh issue list --help describes --limit as the “Maximum number of issues to fetch,” so filtering the returned JSON cannot recover an excluded issue. Apply a server-side title search before limiting the results, while retaining the exact-title check.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Find the failure issue with a title search instead of --limit 100.

gh issue list --limit 100 returns the 100 newest open issues. If the repository has more than 100 open issues, an older failure issue is not in the list. The workflow then finds no existing issue and opens a duplicate. This breaks the "ONE issue" contract. It also loses the attempt count and prevents Fixes #<n> from linking the right issue.

Search by title instead.

The existing jq exact-title filter still removes near matches.

Update the `gh issue list` query used to populate issues.json so it searches
open issues by `FAILURE_ISSUE_TITLE` in the title instead of relying on the
newest 100 results. Keep the `jq` exact-title filter so near matches are
excluded.

P2 Badge Bound the accumulated failure history

For persistent failures with near-5KB error excerpts, copying the entire previous history into every replacement body exceeds GitHub's 65,536-character issue-body limit after approximately 13 attempts; this limit is also documented by a Go build-infrastructure fix for the same API rejection. Replaying this workflow's body-generation script with full-sized ASCII excerpts produced a roughly 69KB body on attempt 13. At that point, issue editing fails on every subsequent failed run, leaving the attempt count, latest revisions, and error details permanently stale until recovery or manual intervention. Cap the total retained history or store individual attempts in separate comments.

Cap the failure history so the issue body stays under the GitHub size limit.

Each failed attempt appends an entry of up to about 5 KB to the issue body. Line 161 copies the full previous history on every run. GitHub limits an issue body to 65,536 characters. After roughly 13 consecutive daily failures, gh issue edit is likely to be rejected. The step then stops before the issue is updated, so the tracking issue goes stale.

Keep only the most recent entries. For example, keep the last N attempts and replace older ones with a one-line count.

P2 Badge Make publication branches unique across run attempts

If publication fails after pushing the branch but before merging the PR, a same-day rerun recreates the same branch from main and commits the update again. GitHub documents that GITHUB_RUN_ID does not change on reruns, so the existing remote branch collides with the newly created commit. The unconditional git push origin on line 218 then rejects the update because “only fast-forward updates are allowed”. This prevents rerunning the failed job to recover from a transient PR creation or merge failure; include GITHUB_RUN_ATTEMPT in the branch name or resume publication using the existing branch and PR.

Handle the case where both direct merge and auto-merge fail.

Under the default bash -e, the step exits if gh pr merge --auto fails. This can happen if auto-merge is disabled for the repository. The job then fails, but the failure is not recorded in the tracking issue. The pushed branch and open PR stay behind. The next daily run opens another PR from a new branch.

Close the PR and delete the branch before exiting, or record the failure on the tracking issue.
