feat(mobile): browse ZIP attachments with the shared archive reader - #19463
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR introduces a substantial default mobile ZIP-browsing workflow with archive downloading, bounded decompression, previews, native viewers, and composer integration, rather than a small isolated change. It also adds static-analysis suppression directives, and an unresolved Medium finding reports a silent Save failure when sharing is unavailable. Needs human approval because:

Hey @Bil0000, thanks for this. We do want ZIP previews. I tested the branch with a bunch of real and weird ZIPs, and the parsing side holds up well. The UI is the weak part, though, and it doesn't feel like the rest of the app yet. Please explore some different directions before polishing this one. What I ran into with the current thumbnail grid:
One direction I prototyped locally, as a starting point rather than the answer: treat the ZIP like a small project. Use the same Other options worth trying: a flat filterable list, or keeping the grid only for image-only ZIPs. Please try a few, compare them against how the file browser and attachment preview already look, and post screenshots of what you land on. It's also worth thinking about mobile and slow remote connections, because right now the whole ZIP downloads in the browser before anything shows. |

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winBound decoded image dimensions before creating the object URL.
The 10 MiB check limits only inflated ZIP bytes. It does not limit raster dimensions or decoded pixels. A valid 10,000 × 10,000 RGBA PNG can fit within the image and archive limits while requiring about 381 MiB of decoded pixel storage.
Both the thumbnail and full-image viewer pass the object URL to
<img>. This can stall or exhaust the web renderer. Add a dimension or pixel-count guard before creating the Blob, or use a bounded downsampling decoder.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

@coderabbitai Fixed the decoded-image-size finding from this review in 8a0d5e5. ZIP extraction now reads image headers before creating a Blob or preview URL. It caps images at 16 million pixels and 8,192 pixels per side. It reuses the shared PNG/JPEG/GIF/WebP size reader and also checks the first GIF frame extent. The check uses file bytes even when the image suffix is wrong. Unsupported or unreadable headers show a clear message and leave the ZIP download available. Proof: 101 focused tests pass across |
|
The ZIP browser changes are in 7e4ebb3, with the image-size guard in 8a0d5e5. I compared the existing project tree, a flat list, and the image grid. The project tree fits the app, keeps folders useful, and lets ZIP entries use the existing file viewers. The tree is virtualized. Files open only when selected. Verified in the real web client with local test ZIPs:
The full archive still downloads before browsing. Remote loading now states this. Slow-network and native-mobile behavior were not tested in this pass. The narrow capture is the web client at 390 pixels. This pass used no provider turns. 101 focused tests, scoped lint, formatting, and web type checks pass. Current design screenshots are in the PR description. |

Addressed in The real app passed Markdown/code/CSV/PNG previews, narrow-width navigation, reload, removal, draft switching, and the 2,000-image case: 41 rendered rows and no images until selection. All 345 focused unit and browser tests pass, plus scoped lint/format checks and web types. The merged app also passed panel removal and typing with zero panel storage writes. The PR includes desktop/narrow screenshots and the before image. Remote ZIPs still download in full before browsing. |

…nimum These are the takeover's tests for the ZIP attachment preview. - client-runtime zipPreview: one browse test plus refusals for the 32 MiB / 2,000-file limits, encrypted, ZIP64, multipart, bad CRC, 10 MiB preview, 64 MiB save, understated sizes and oversized images. - web: ZIP cases through AttachmentFilePreview (browse, filter, open text and image entries, save an entry, add it to chat, refusals); main's archive retry test now checks the ZIP tree. - mobile: ZipArchiveView test trimmed to the attachment screen route, native Back keeping the filter, and the encrypted refusal. - Deleted helper and wrapper tests (zipTree, zipEntryActions, web lib zipPreview, ZipArchivePreview) and out-of-scope tests (EPUB reuse, attachment downloads, draft right-panel); those files are back to main. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A ZIP chat attachment, sent or still in the composer draft, now opens in the attachment file preview as a folder tree with a filter box. Text and image entries open in the existing file previews, and one entry can be saved or added to the chat. client-runtime's zipPreview validates the central directory before JSZip reads it and enforces the limits (32 MiB archive, 2,000 files and 2,000 folders, 10 MiB entry preview, 64 MiB saved entry). It refuses encrypted, ZIP64 and multipart archives, entries with bad checksums and oversized images with a clear message. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Main's pingdotgg#21467 already browses ZIP attachments on web through BinaryViewer, so the web ZipArchivePreview and the separate client-runtime zipPreview parser are dropped. boundedZip and checkZipDirectory move into client-runtime (`./zip/bounded-zip`, `./zip/directory`) with their limits, and web imports them from there unchanged. The mobile ZIP screen now reads archives with boundedZip. It refuses an oversized ZIP before downloading it, keeps the archive open when the parent re-renders with a new refresh callback, keeps Save and Add to chat reachable after closing the viewer for image and PDF entries, and removes the composer copy when Add to chat is cancelled mid-copy. Browse ZIP attachments on mobile. On the mobile attachment file screen, a ZIP now opens as a folder tree with a filter. A text or image entry opens in the existing mobile previews, and one entry can be saved or added to the chat composer. Archives are read with the same bounded ZIP reader the web archive viewer uses (50 MB archive, 2,048 entries, compression-ratio cap, 10 MB per entry preview); refused archives show a message and a way to save the ZIP instead.
Web and desktop already browse ZIP, JAR and TAR attachments since https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/21467; this PR moves that viewer's reader (
boundedZip,zipDirectory) into@t3tools/client-runtime/zip/*so both clients share it. Web behaviour is unchanged.Takeover
Taken over from @Bil0000. Main shipped a web archive viewer (https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/21467) while this PR was open, so the PR's separate web
ZipArchivePreviewand its own ZIP parser were dropped in favour of main's viewer and reader. The mobile ZIP screen was kept and rebuilt on that shared reader, with review fixes: the archive no longer reloads when the screen re-renders, oversized ZIPs are refused before download, Save and Add to chat stay reachable after the native viewer closes, a cancelled Add cleans up its copy, and an import cycle is gone.Dropped as out of scope: the server

Browse ZIP attachments in the shared web/desktop panel and native mobile file screen. Search files, preview images, or add one file to chat. ZIP entries and regular mobile files now share the native header, scrolling, line numbers, and header action menu.
The shared ZIP core keeps archive, image, and checksum guards. Workspace Add and Save download the original bytes. ZIP limits remain 32 MiB, 2,000 files plus 2,000 folders, 10 MiB previews, and 64 MiB full-file saves. Encrypted, ZIP64, and multipart archives remain unsupported.
The follow-up fixes draft workspace audio/video downloads losing attachment disposition. It keeps the existing exact-file download path and extends the byte/header/security checks with an MP4 case. The archive parser and safety guards are unchanged. Repeated EPUB chapters are now prepared once per open, while every occurrence still counts toward the same output limit.
Shared-viewer checks now wait for real indexing, worker, iframe, and lazy-view readiness. Archive budgets retain their original large fixtures. Main's Word layout stand-in remains in the browser test. Real Word engine acceptance runs in Node; browser checks cover actual page mounting, bounded overlays, spreadsheet scrolling, refresh, retry, PDF navigation/search/selection, notebook outputs, and document frames. Per-test limits and the retry policy are unchanged. Browser connection startup now uses the same 180-second cap as the authorized repro.

The browser test conflict keeps main's Word stand-in and worker-readiness fixes, plus the PR's real PDF, ZIP, streaming/retry, capability, quota, and bounded-viewer coverage. ZIP parser and safety bytes remain unchanged.Validation on
23cccf8227fea7610977280e4d662df160d32c2b, against merged main278fdce1af7eb821c34ee416c441952df250ac63:RAYON_NUM_THREADS=2 VITEST_MAX_WORKERS=1 vp run check:changedpassed all static checks, type checks for 36 packages, and all 539 tests in 16 files. The suite retains all 133 shared-viewer browser cases and 34 ZIP browser cases. Main removed two old draft-navigation cases, which explains 539 versus the prior 541. The first gate hit the unchanged five-second limit in one actual-byte ZIP test; its full file and the complete gate then passed unchanged. No timeout, retry-policy, fixture or parser change was made.Focused checks on the merged source passed all 167 browser cases in the two affected files, 133 web unit cases, 10 shared ZIP core cases, 36 AssetAccess cases, and 26 mobile unit cases. The headless Chromium launch/page/read/close probe passed. The prior MP4 and repeated-EPUB regressions failed before their fixes; the real actual-byte archive assertion failed when the save guard was removed and passed with it restored.
Existing media below is from earlier verification. This follow-up did not run a live app or native device pass. Dense 60/100-page Word checks prove XML retention and page mounting separately; they do not prove a full font-layout/painting pass. Native Electron and Android remain untested here.
