Problem

vp test run <file> from the repo root used the root test config, not the package config. In 14 days, 501 of 1,012 agent server test runs started from the root and lost the server setup (git config, fileParallelism: false, 120 s timeouts), and 21 web browser test runs from the root failed. Agent shells also carry CLIProxy's ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN / ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL, which fails ProviderInstanceRegistry.test.ts (1 failed / 8 passed).

Change

• Root test.projects. When vp test runs from the repo root, the root config lists the package configs (desktop, mobile, server, web, client-runtime) as projects, plus a root project for the packages that borrow the root config. Package-directory runs (all CI runs) do not get projects, so they resolve as before. apps/server/vite.config.ts drops the inherited projects before mergeConfig (3 lines), or it would become a container that lists itself.
• Clean provider env. New packages/shared/src/testing/providerEnv.ts runs in every Node test project (root setupFiles, which server inherits, plus desktop, mobile unit and react, web unit, and client-runtime). It deletes ANTHROPIC_*, CLAUDE_*, CODEX_*, OPENAI_*, T3CODE_*. T3CODE_TEST_KEEP_PROVIDER_ENV=1 turns it off. Kept: T3CODE_TRANSFER_BUDGET_{REPORT,RESULT}_PATH (CI sets them for the job summary) and T3CODE_TEST_HEADLESS_SHELL (opt-in for the HtmlRender tests).
• macOS git shim. In gitConfig.setup.ts, on darwin only: if git on PATH is /usr/bin/git, run xcrun -f git once and put its directory first in PATH. If xcrun fails or prints nothing, PATH does not change.

Scope and approval

Maintainer work. Theo asked for it from a 2026-10-20/21 audit of agent test runs, and asked for the env cleanup to cover every test project. Only test config and test setup change. No runtime code changes.

Verification

Proved by reproducing both failures on main and running the same commands on this branch, after rebasing onto Vite+ 1.3.

• From the root, a probe test reports |t3| with testTimeout: 120000, setupFiles: [longTempDir, providerEnv, gitConfig.setup], GIT_CONFIG_COUNT=6. A shared test reports |root| with 60 s.
• From the root, apps/web/src/browser/ElectronBrowserHost.browser.test.tsx passes under @t3tools/web (browser) (chromium). On main it fails with "vitest/browser can be imported only inside the Browser Mode".
• From the root, mobile, desktop (and native/kde-snap-shot), client-runtime and scripts tests each run under their own project.
• CI unchanged: vp test list --filesOnly from apps/server (with --shard), apps/web (--project unit --project browser), apps/desktop, and packages/shared (--config ../../vite.config.ts --dir .) gives the same file lists on main and on this branch.
• A probe test in desktop, mobile unit, mobile react, web unit and client-runtime sees no ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN and no T3CODE_HOME (the agent shell had T3CODE_HOME=~/.t3, the live install). The desktop, client-runtime, mobile and web unit suites pass from their package directories.
• ProviderInstanceRegistry.test.ts with ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN set: 9/9 from the root and from apps/server. With T3CODE_TEST_KEEP_PROVIDER_ENV=1: 1 failed / 8 passed, as before.
• macOS git: measured on a Mac without Homebrew git, the shim takes 8.1 ms per spawn and the Xcode git 2.6 ms. With the Xcode git first in PATH, GitVcsDriverCore.test.ts takes 20.8 s instead of 44.9 s and GitManager.test.ts 27.3 s instead of 58.2 s. This PR was made on Linux, so I tested the darwin branch with a fake xcrun: it prepends on success and leaves PATH alone on failure, empty output, missing xcrun, or a non-shim git.
