refactor(web): diff and file reveals are requests, and workspace edits refetch by construction - #25732
Workspace edits refreshed the diff panel, file previews and media URLs through effects that compared a mutation id against a ref and then called refresh(). The diff panel also ran its own open-revalidation and window-focus effects, review file patches compared preview revisions in an effect, code-view reveals were state plus an effect waiting for the viewer, and pull request "viewed" presses were held in two effects and five refs inside a hook.
Change
DiffPanel: reads the branch diff preview under the workspace mutation id (revisionedQuery) and revalidates on show and window focus through useLiveRefresh, which gains refreshOnShow and intervalMs: null (no periodic timer for a git diff).
useReviewFilePatches: passes the preview input to the patch query. Its existing refreshTrigger (in client-runtime) already refreshes patches when the preview revision moves, so the comparison effect goes away.
FilePreviewPanel: mounts the file read under the mutation id. Video, audio and file previews pass the mutation id to useAssetUrlState, which re-mints the URL per revision.
Code-view reveals (createCodeViewFileReveal): the reveal object is the viewer's ref (attach) and its onPostRender handler (flush) in both the DiffPanel and the PR code tab. A reveal is applied right away when the viewer holds the file, and otherwise stays pending until the viewer mounts and renders it. Remounting the viewer (another diff scope) drops a pending reveal.
PR code tab: the load-more sentinel is observed through a ref callback (observeIntersection), so the sentinel state and its extra render go away.
Files viewed (absorbs r-pr-files-viewed-store): presses, batching, the write and the settle-against-next-read logic move into filesViewedStore, keyed by environment and change request. The hook only reads the query and the scope's overlay.
What this improves
Sync removed: 3 workspace-refresh effects plus the open-revalidation and focus effects in DiffPanel, the preview-revision effect in useReviewFilePatches, 4 workspace-refresh effects in FilePreviewPanel, the reveal effect in useCodeViewFileReveal, the sentinel observer effect in the PR code tab, and both effects in usePullRequestFilesViewed.
Renders avoided: the PR code tab no longer re-renders to store its sentinel node in state.
No bug-fix claims. The new PR code tab reveal tests (scrolls to a file asked for as the tab opens, pages forward to a file asked for that is not loaded yet, then scrolls to it) also pass on main. They lock in the current behavior.
Behavior changes
DiffPanel: window focus refreshes the branch diff only while the panel is visible. The refresh is rate-limited to once per 10s, so a diff read in the last 10s counts as fresh. Before, every focus refreshed it, even when hidden.
Media and file asset URLs: a preview opened after a workspace mutation no longer re-mints on mount. A cached URL is reused and the next mutation re-mints it. The URL's workspace-revision suffix still changes per mutation.
Viewed-file presses survive the hook remounting: the scope stays alive while any reader is subscribed, and the last reader to leave sends its pending presses.
Effects (before -> after, counted by hand)
DiffPanel.tsx: 5 -> 2 (plus one useLiveRefresh call)
diffs/useCodeViewFileReveal.ts: 1 -> 0
diffs/useReviewFilePatches.ts: 1 -> 0
files/FilePreviewPanel.tsx: 7 -> 3
pullRequest/PullRequestCodeTab.tsx: 5 -> 4
pullRequest/usePullRequestFilesViewed.ts: 2 -> 0
hooks/useLiveRefresh.ts: 1 -> 1
Kept on purpose: DiffPanel's turn reconcile (its store change is a separate unit), FilePreviewPanel's breadcrumb scroll, editor dismissal and highlight priming (a ref-callback swap would buy nothing), and ChatView's git-status refresh (still on useWorkspaceMutationRefresh; a separate unit moves it).
Verification
vp test run on useCodeViewFileReveal.test.ts, filesViewedStore.test.ts, pullRequestFilesViewed.logic.test.ts, FilePreviewPanel.test.ts and PullRequestCodeTab.browser.test.tsx: 58 passed.
useCodeViewFileReveal.test.ts covers a reveal asked before the viewer mounts (the diff-link-before-load case) and a reveal dropped on viewer remount. useLiveRefresh.browser.test.tsx covers refreshOnShow (reads on each show unless read within the 10s floor) and intervalMs: null (no timer, while a timed view reads 5 times in 5.5 minutes).
vp run check:changed: format, lint (including the effect budget), knip, typecheck and tests all pass.
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This broad web refactor changes refresh and caching semantics across diffs and file previews, introduces a new external store for pull-request viewed-file state, and alters reveal/pagination behavior. The cross-cutting runtime impact warrants human review despite the accompanying tests and the author’s familiarity with these areas.

Walkthrough
The PR updates workspace preview refresh and revision handling, changes file reveal behavior in pull-request diffs, and moves viewed-file state into a scoped store with batched writes.
Branch previews and eligible file reads use workspace mutation revisions. useLiveRefresh supports refresh-on-show without a periodic timer. Review patch queries receive preview input instead of a generated revision. Stale revisioned queries schedule refreshes in a microtask.
Reveal requests wait for the matching viewer item. The pull-request tab loads further diff slices when needed and flushes pending reveals after rendering. Tests cover immediate and paged reveals.
Scoped viewed-file state apps/web/src/components/pullRequest/filesViewedStore.ts, apps/web/src/components/pullRequest/filesViewedStore.test.ts, apps/web/src/components/pullRequest/usePullRequestFilesViewed.ts
A scoped store manages optimistic viewed-file state and batched writes. The hook subscribes to the store, and tests cover write results, scope lifecycle, and multiple readers.

pingdotgg/t3code#22886: The PR changes file-reveal handling and viewed-file state in the pull-request Code tab. The issue’s additional state-retention cases are not confirmed as addressed.
An initially failed or pending preview may still miss automatic recovery or its first focus refresh. The disposed-registry failure has been addressed; the remaining preview risk warrants owner awareness.

Keep live refresh active when the preview has no data.
If the initial diff read fails, this null callback prevents useLiveRefresh from retrying when the user shows or focuses the panel. If the first read is pending when the hook starts, the first later focus event only records a refresh time; it does not revalidate an old diff. Keep the callback available, and skip the fetch inside it only while the query is pending or its last read is recent. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

…s refetch by construction
Workspace edits refreshed the diff panel, file previews and media URLs through
effects that compared a mutation id against a ref and then called refresh().
The diff panel also ran its own open-revalidation and window-focus effects, the
review file patches compared preview revisions in an effect, and code-view
reveals were state plus an effect that waited for the viewer.
- DiffPanel reads the branch diff preview under the workspace mutation id
(revisionedQuery) and revalidates on show/focus through useLiveRefresh
(now with refreshOnShow and no interval for a costly read).
- useReviewFilePatches hands the preview input to the patch query, whose
refreshTrigger already refreshes patches when the preview revision moves.
- FilePreviewPanel mounts the file read under the mutation id and passes the
mutation id to useAssetUrlState for video, audio and file previews.
- Code-view reveals are a small request object: applied at once when the
viewer holds the file, otherwise flushed from the viewer's post-render.
- The PR code tab's load-more sentinel observes through a ref callback.
- Pull request files-viewed presses live in a store keyed by scope instead
of two effects and five refs in the hook.
Effects kept: DiffPanel's turn reconcile and external reveal, the PR code tab's
reveal answer (now a layout effect so it can position after the viewer
attaches), and FilePreviewPanel's breadcrumb scroll, editor dismissal and
highlight priming.

…render
A revisioned query refetched while its reader rendered, which synchronously
notified readers still subscribed under the old revision. With the diff panel
now reading its preview this way, a turn landing while it was open logged
"Cannot update a component (DiffPanel) while rendering a different component".
The refetch now runs in a microtask, after the render.

The refetch a new workspace revision queues now runs only while the query
still has a node, so a reader released and its registry disposed before the
microtask drains no longer throws "registry is disposed".

it through the gateway.

* feat(mobile): run the chrome e2e across poses on the device pool
`vp run mobile:e2e` now leases iOS and Android devices from the Simlock pool
(SIMLOCK_AGENT_DEVICE_URL + AGENT_DEVICE_DAEMON_AUTH_TOKEN) instead of booting
local simulators, and walks each of 12 poses (phone sizes, iPads, a fold,
a tablet, dark mode, largest text) through the app: thread list, a thread,
scrolling, typing, back, settings, then rotation or folding.
Every screen gets generic layout checks that need no per-screen code: app in
front, no error screen or launch dialog, no fixed control cut off by the
screen edge, no sibling controls stacked, nothing under a system bar, no
input under the keyboard. Transitions keep the video check for tabs lagging
the screen, now measured against the recording's own first and last frames.
Afterwards a headless Claude reviews each pose's screenshots for what the
checks cannot see, and the findings land in the same report grid.
`mobile:install --session` now has the session's host download the dev
client from the shared cache with the read-only key, instead of uploading it
through the gateway (13 s instead of 10+ minutes for an APK).

Poses now cover iPhone SE, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo folded and unfolded,
iPad Pro 13" in both orientations, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro Fold folded,
unfolded and unfolded landscape, and Pixel Tablet in both orientations.
Landscape poses rotate once the app is up (a rotation during launch is lost)
and check that the screen really is wider than tall. Taps fall back to the
element's centre when agent-device refuses a covered ref, and a gateway
whose workers briefly reconnect is retried.

* fix(mobile): mobile:install no longer requires --prepare

required and every mobile:install failed with "Missing required flag".

* fix(mobile): e2e landscape poses rotate for real on tablets and folds
agent-device names rotations relative to the device's natural orientation,
which is landscape on the Pixel Tablet and an unfolded Fold, so
"landscape-left" turned them portrait. The runner now asks for a shape and
tries each rotation until the screen has it. It also prepares each platform's
dev client before leasing, rides out longer worker drops, and skips the
Duo poses by default until agent-device can fold Simlock's simulators.

* chore(mobile): e2e poses for current devices, Duo and landscape fixes

* fix(mobile): select the correct draft after adding a project (pingdotgg#24269)
* fix(mobile): mobile:install no longer requires --prepare

required and every mobile:install failed with "Missing required flag".

* fix(build): TEMPORARY workaround so linux-arm64 builds run on 16/64 KiB page kernels (pingdotgg#25825)
TEMPORARY workaround for an upstream Node bug: nodejs/node#67048
Node 26.9+ --build-sea writes linux-arm64 executables that 16/64 KiB page kernels cannot load.
linux-arm64 now injects with postject, and the archive build rejects incompatible ELF layouts.
One-time exception. Revert once Node ships a fix: grep for the Node issue URL and drop postject
from scripts/package.json.
Fixespingdotgg#23433. Replaces pingdotgg#23443.

Problem
Workspace edits refreshed the diff panel, file previews and media URLs through effects that compared a mutation id against a ref and then called
refresh(). The diff panel also ran its own open-revalidation and window-focus effects, review file patches compared preview revisions in an effect, code-view reveals were state plus an effect waiting for the viewer, and pull request "viewed" presses were held in two effects and five refs inside a hook.Change
revisionedQuery) and revalidates on show and window focus throughuseLiveRefresh, which gainsrefreshOnShowandintervalMs: null(no periodic timer for a git diff).refreshTrigger(in client-runtime) already refreshes patches when the preview revision moves, so the comparison effect goes away.useAssetUrlState, which re-mints the URL per revision.createCodeViewFileReveal): the reveal object is the viewer's ref (attach) and itsonPostRenderhandler (flush) in both the DiffPanel and the PR code tab. A reveal is applied right away when the viewer holds the file, and otherwise stays pending until the viewer mounts and renders it. Remounting the viewer (another diff scope) drops a pending reveal.observeIntersection), so thesentinelstate and its extra render go away.r-pr-files-viewed-store): presses, batching, the write and the settle-against-next-read logic move intofilesViewedStore, keyed by environment and change request. The hook only reads the query and the scope's overlay.What this improves
