Problem

With a file open in the file panel and its find bar open (Cmd/Ctrl+F), you can't cite assistant text. Select a reply and the Cite button shows up. Click it and the selection vanishes and nothing lands in the composer.

Steps: open a file in the file panel, click into it, press Cmd/Ctrl+F so it has matches, select text in an assistant reply, click Cite.

Change

A click outside the file panel runs installFileEditorDismissal, which calls editor.setSelections([]) so the editor gives up its caret. While search has matches, @pierre/diffs keeps the old selection to draw the highlights, then scrolls to that caret. The scroll calls setBaseAndExtent on the window selection and focuses the editor. That replaces your chat selection on the same pointerdown, before Cite's click arrives.

The fix is one hunk in our existing @pierre/diffs patch. An empty setSelections no longer scrolls or focuses:

Nothing changes without search or markers. In that case #updateSelections([]) clears the selection and the scroll was already a no-op. The two callers of setSelections([]) (outside-click dismissal and starting a line comment) both clear in order to leave the editor, so the jump back was never wanted. Starting a line comment while search is open had the same focus fight and now works too. Search keeps its matches, highlights and count.

pnpm-lock.yaml only picks up the new patch hash. Desktop runs the same web code. Mobile has no file editor.

Scope and approval

No prior issue. This is a small fix for an obvious bug: one guard in an existing dependency patch plus its test. It restores Cite next to an open file search and changes no product behavior.

Verification

apps/web/src/components/files/fileEditorDismissal.browser.test.tsx mounts the library's editable File, opens search on a word, installs the dismissal, selects text outside the file and fires pointerdown. It expects the selection to survive.

Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs. This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place. Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture. Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs. This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place. Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture.
