feat(scheduler): run a scheduled task once at a specific date and time - #28104
Scheduled tasks could not run at a specific date and time. The only options were an interval, a daily or weekday time, or a webhook. So "run this Friday at 3pm" had to become a daily task that you delete later.
Now a task can run Once at a date and time:
New schedule type { type: "once", runAt }. runAt is an ISO time with an offset, stored in UTC. The task runs at that time, then has no next run. If the server is offline at that time, it runs when it is back, like intervals.
Saving an enabled one-time task with a past time, or turning one back on after its time passed, fails with "The run time has passed. Pick a time in the future." Editing the title or prompt of a task that already ran still works and does not run it again.
Web: a Once mode with a date and time field in your local time zone. Mobile: a Once mode with Date and Time rows.
schedule_task (MCP) lists the new type, so agents can schedule one-off work.
Older servers reject once, so a new oneTimeSchedules environment capability gates the option on web and mobile.
A run's completion now reads the task and writes its result in one transaction. A save that races a finishing run keeps the run's next time, so a one-time task cannot run twice.

Discussion #20863: Support one-time scheduled tasks
Already closed, same request (one-time or later-date runs):
Issue #13439 and PR #23636: Claude CronCreate one-shots die with the Claude process. Agents can now use a once task instead, but Claude's own crons are still lost.
Discussion #23309: bound a schedule with an end time or run limit. once covers a single run, not bounded intervals.
Discussion #21660: far-future runs should start in a fresh thread. It assumes a once type, which now exists.
Proof: service tests cover one run, no second run, past-time rejection, a manual run that overlaps the run time, restart recovery, saves that race a finishing run or a concurrent pause, a row replaced mid-run, and a webhook redelivery after a failed start. Web logic tests cover the date-time round trip and a time skipped by daylight saving. Contract tests reject missing offsets, impossible days, and out-of-range years. In a dev server, a task made in the web form fired from the real scheduler at the set minute, started one thread, and then had no next run. New mcp-tool-use eval case schedule-one-time-date: 0/2 on main's text, 3/3 on the final text, on GPT-6.1 Sol. On an iOS simulator, a task made in the mobile form for 5:00 AM on Nov 1 saved as 13:00 UTC, which is correct because daylight saving ends that morning.
The MCP tool list grows by 54 bytes (the once enum value, the runAt field, and the trigger hint). That needs the agent-context-increase label.

Walkthrough
Scheduled tasks now support one-time schedules across contracts, server behavior, and web and mobile settings. Editors provide date and time controls. The server normalizes run times and rejects enabled schedules whose run time has passed.
Schedule schemas and client drafts support one-time run times. MCP descriptions and tool labels are updated, and the evaluation case covers a one-time schedule request.
Server run-time calculation and validation apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/Schedule.ts, apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/Schedule.test.ts, apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.ts, apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.interval.test.ts
The server calculates the next run time for one-time schedules, normalizes run times to ISO format, and rejects enabled schedules whose run time has passed. Tests cover manual runs, recovery, and past run times.
Web and mobile settings editors apps/web/src/components/settings/ScheduledTasksSettings.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/settings/SettingsScheduledTasksRouteScreen.tsx, docs/user/project-settings.md
The settings editors display one-time schedules and provide date and time inputs. The mobile guidance describes the selected time zone and offline behavior.
One-time scheduling’s offline catch-up path is supported by the current code, but the budget increase may block CI. Confirm the required label or reduce the budget before merging.

Test the automatic due run, not a second manual run.
The call to runNow does not establish that the scheduler fires at runAt or that it avoids a second automatic run. Drive the registered scheduler past the due time and assert the resulting run count and cleared next run.
As per coding guidelines: “Backend behavior changes ship with focused tests for that behavior.” As per path instructions: “Test behavior that can break, at the lowest layer that fails on main.”

Use the interrupted run's start time during one-time recovery.
19-22: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Use the interrupted run's start time during one-time recovery.
When a manual run starts before runAt, startup recovery uses the restart time in nextRunAt(decoded.success, now). If restart occurs after runAt, Schedule.ts returns null, so the pending scheduled occurrence is lost.
Use the persisted lastRunAt for once schedules. A scheduled run starts at or after runAt, so this does not replay an already-consumed scheduled occurrence.

Update startup recovery’s call to nextRunAt so one-time schedules use the
persisted lastRunAt as the recovery reference when available, falling back to
now otherwise. Keep the existing recovery reference for other schedule types so
an interrupted pending occurrence is retained without replaying a consumed
scheduled run.
Cover automatic one-time dispatch.
157-164: Major · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win
Cover automatic one-time dispatch.
The test parks the scheduler with ServerActivation, Effect.never and calls service.runNow twice. It therefore does not exercise the registered runDueTasks path. Its assertions check only nextRunAt; they do not prove one automatic launch or prevent a second scheduled launch.
Add a focused test that activates the scheduler, advances the clock to runAt, and asserts runCount is 1 after dispatch and remains 1 after another scheduler pass.

Add a focused test around the scheduled-task dispatch flow instead of relying
only on service.runNow: activate the scheduler, advance the clock to runAt, and
assert runCount is 1 after dispatch and remains 1 after another runDueTasks
pass.
The fixture has no id. The final upsert clears commandId, so it creates a new task and tests past-time creation. It does not test editing created.task after completion. Add an edit with id: created.task.id and assert that nextRunAt stays null and runCount does not change. Keep the existing past-time creation assertion.

The reservation gap found in this PR's review is fixed in #28474, merged as ce9e016. runTask and the pending webhook dispatch now take and release their in-memory reservations in Effect.acquireUseRelease, so an interrupt can no longer leave a task marked busy. The start-time read from this PR stays before the reservation.
Verified by two focused tests that fail on the old main, plus all 102 scheduled task tests and CI on the merged head.

Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(web): play completion sounds without delay (pingdotgg#29146)
Completion alerts waited two seconds after the client received a completed thread state. Audio was also fetched and decoded only when an alert needed to play, adding a first-play delay.
Notify immediately when the thread shell reports completion, and preload both sounds when a user gesture unlocks audio. Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs.
This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place.
Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture. Audible timing has not been verified in a live client.
Model: GPT 6.1 Sol. Harness: Codex through T3 Code.
* fix(web): preserve scroll position when expanding work details (pingdotgg#29166)
* fix(server): Claude threads no longer join the Claude session that launched T3 (pingdotgg#29169)

Merges `pingdotgg/t3code` `main` at `91f66f88de` (435 commits since
`80a2351fcb`) into the fork. Branches from `main`; nothing stacked.
## Resolution
- 25 conflicts, each resolved by the verdict `preflight.mjs` printed.
Landed 1222 files against 1224 in the upstream range. The gap is the
deleted `cli/pair.ts` / `pair.test.ts`, plus `PreviewEmptyState.tsx`
keeping the fork's copy, whose text does not promise discovered local
servers. The fork delta is 770 files (766 before).
- Fork deltas re-applied on upstream's new structure:
- **Composer:** the `FEATURES.accessMode` gate moved from the dropped
`extraMenuContent` to the new model-picker footer
(`ComposerModelEffort.tsx`).
- **Project settings:** the `projectManagement` wrap now also covers
upstream's Pin/Archive rows.
- **`ChatView.tsx`:** the fork dialog and script props survive
upstream's side chats and its re-indented `ThreadDetailsPanel`.
- **Sidebar:** `isSidebarSubagentThread` became upstream's
`isSidebarHiddenThread` with the fork's `source` arm.
- **Dispatch acknowledgement:** `hasServerAcknowledgedLocalDispatch`
keeps the fork's wider connecting rule.
- **Terminal sessions:** the known-sessions atom reads `.terminals`.
- Collateral fixes found by tests:
- The thread-shell navigation filter also hides side chats.
- Upstream's new terminal-sessions test uses the fork's metadata-scan
shape.
- Upstream's interval tests opt in to `providerConfiguration`.
- `agentContextBudget.json` is upstream's plus 108 bytes (`47646`).
`pnpm-lock.yaml` is re-derived.
- Inventory:
- New path-policy entries: `terminal-sessions-metadata-read`,
`sidebar-hidden-thread`, `chat-view-dispatch-ack`.
- `chat-composer-gates` now includes `ComposerModelEffort.tsx`.
- Two duplicate-add exceptions added; the stale DiffPanel exception is
retired.
- Unsupported methods: ADD 0. DROP `artifacts.setVisibility`: Moatless
now dispatches it, but `apps/server` refuses it, so it is declared as
exception `artifacts-set-visibility-upstream-refusal` instead of dropped
from the union.
- The merge commit was made with `--no-verify` (knip, as on 2026-10-31).
## Verification
- `verify.mjs --fast`: green. This covers duplicate-adds, tripwires,
resolution-check, unsupported-methods, lockfile, format, lint, typecheck
and the web build.
- Tests: the full parallel pass hit the 3600 s deadline, so each package
was then run alone.
- **Passed:** web, client-runtime, desktop, mobile, contracts and the
other small packages. On its re-run, web passed 540 of 541 files. The
failure was `fileEditorDismissal.browser.test.tsx`, which is identical
to upstream and passed when run alone. The flaky PDF reload test in
`AttachmentFilePreview` also passed alone.
- **Known sandbox failures, same as 2026-10-31:**
- `t3`: RepositoryIdentityResolver, GitVcsDriver, GitVcsDriverCore,
CodexChatGptAuth and CodexManagedRuntime fail on the git `insteadOf`
rewrite and `/tmp`.
- `provider-opencode`: `OpenCodeServerLedger` fails on `/tmp`.
- Not caused by this merge.
## Usable as-is
- Model and effort in one control (pingdotgg#28057), with the Permissions menu
gated by `FEATURES.accessMode`.
- The context meter shows tokens against the limit (pingdotgg#27892).
- Copy app version (pingdotgg#24788), plus sidebar and minimap polish and many
client perf commits.
- Child approvals surface in the parent thread (pingdotgg#28516). This works to
the extent Moatless reports subagent requests.
## Unsupported in Moatless / needs implementation
- **Side chats (pingdotgg#26901):**
- Wire: `thread.fork` with `sideChat: true`, `lineage.sideChat`, and the
`environment.capabilities.sideChats` capability.
- Today: Moatless reports no capability, so the client never offers side
chats.
- To implement: persist `lineage.sideChat`, keep side chats out of
listings, and seed them from a capped summary of the parent
(`apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ContextHandoffService.ts`). Then
report the capability.
- **Project pin/archive (pingdotgg#26154):**
- Wire: `pinnedAt` / `archivedAt` on the project shell, `pinned` /
`archived` on `project.update`, and the `projectOrganization`
capability.
- Today: hidden by the capability and by `FEATURES.projectManagement`.
- **One-time scheduled tasks (pingdotgg#28104):** the `{type:"once", runAt}`
trigger and the `oneTimeSchedules` capability. Moot while
`FEATURES.scheduledTasks` hides scheduled tasks.
- **Managed policy (pingdotgg#27197):** `managedPolicy` in server config, with
`packages/contracts/src/managedPolicy.ts`. Moatless sends none, so
`ManagedControl` / `ManagedNotice` never render. Only worth doing if an
org policy is wanted.
- **Usage model filter (pingdotgg#28952):** `modelFilter` on
`server.getUsageSummary` is ignored by Moatless, so the summary reads as
unfiltered.
- The new capabilities are recorded in `docs/fork/gaps.md` (capabilities
entry).
## Backend behavior to consider reproducing in Moatless
- **Forks:** a fork does not inherit its source's pin, auto-settle or
delegation state (pingdotgg#28378).
- **Thread delete:** `thread.delete` takes `onlyIfUnused`.
- **Failed worktree setup:** a worktree thread whose setup failed is
flagged instead of running in the project checkout
(`orchestrationV2WorktreePending`).
- **Scheduled tasks:** a one-shot trigger, and interrupted runs no
longer stay busy (pingdotgg#28104, pingdotgg#28474).
- **Usage:**
- The model filter applies server-side, and each request is counted once
(pingdotgg#28952, pingdotgg#29001).
- Days-old usage-limit recoveries are not re-armed (pingdotgg#21735).
- Continuation checks restart before repeating side effects (pingdotgg#27836).
- **Worktree and VCS:**
- Fewer git processes on worktree creation (pingdotgg#28582), and slow submodule
checkouts may finish (pingdotgg#28482).
- `diff.relative` no longer breaks turn diffs (pingdotgg#28361).
- Selected-file commits keep merge ancestry (pingdotgg#24744).
- **MCP orchestrator tools:**
- `preview_open` goes to a dev-server port (pingdotgg#28027).
- Multi-PR link/unlink (pingdotgg#27994, pingdotgg#27925).
- `delegate_task` accepts reported capabilities (pingdotgg#28133).
- **Provider runtime:**
- Codex gets `T3CODE_THREAD_ID` (pingdotgg#28604).
- Claude reverts correctly after `/compact` (pingdotgg#27381).
- Stopping a Claude turn no longer hangs (pingdotgg#16419).
- These are recorded under _Runtime fixes upstream made to its own
server_ in `docs/fork/gaps.md`.

Scheduled tasks could not run at a specific date and time. The only options were an interval, a daily or weekday time, or a webhook. So "run this Friday at 3pm" had to become a daily task that you delete later.
Now a task can run Once at a date and time:
{ type: "once", runAt }.runAtis an ISO time with an offset, stored in UTC. The task runs at that time, then has no next run. If the server is offline at that time, it runs when it is back, like intervals.schedule_task(MCP) lists the new type, so agents can schedule one-off work.once, so a newoneTimeSchedulesenvironment capability gates the option on web and mobile.Related

CronCreateone-shots die with the Claude process. Agents can now use aoncetask instead, but Claude's own crons are still lost.oncecovers a single run, not bounded intervals.oncetype, which now exists.Proof: service tests cover one run, no second run, past-time rejection, a manual run that overlaps the run time, restart recovery, saves that race a finishing run or a concurrent pause, a row replaced mid-run, and a webhook redelivery after a failed start. Web logic tests cover the date-time round trip and a time skipped by daylight saving. Contract tests reject missing offsets, impossible days, and out-of-range years. In a dev server, a task made in the web form fired from the real scheduler at the set minute, started one thread, and then had no next run. New mcp-tool-use eval case
schedule-one-time-date: 0/2 on main's text, 3/3 on the final text, on GPT-6.1 Sol. On an iOS simulator, a task made in the mobile form for 5:00 AM on Nov 1 saved as 13:00 UTC, which is correct because daylight saving ends that morning. The MCP tool list grows by 54 bytes (the
onceenum value, therunAtfield, and the trigger hint). That needs theagent-context-increaselabel.Reviewed with sol-loop: 2 passes with GPT-6.1 Sol. Sol verdict: approved
