fix(cursor): show Cursor usage after signing in with Cursor - #29419
After Settings > Providers > Cursor > Sign in with Cursor, Cursor shows as authenticated, but none of its usage appears. Limits are missing from Usage > Limits and the composer, and Cursor shows nothing on Usage > Cost and Usage > Tokens. Codex and Claude render normally. This was reported publicly: "i've authed successfully but it just doesn't render. chatgpt + claude usages are fine."
T3's Cursor sign-in stores the user API key that @cursor/sdk mints. Both Cursor usage readers refuse that credential:
Limits.readCursorUsageLimits returned unsupported for any CURSOR_API_KEY, without making a request.
History.CursorUsageAccounts.scan never looked at the instances' credentials at all. It read only a Cursor CLI or Keychain login, and with CURSOR_API_KEY set it answered "Cursor account history needs a Cursor CLI login on this server." On macOS, a user who signed in through T3 only saw an Enable button asking for Keychain access to a CLI login they may not have.
So the sign-in path T3 itself offers could never show Cursor usage. The same happened for a CURSOR_API_KEY set in the instance's environment.
Change
Both readers now use the API key from the instance's T3 sign-in or CURSOR_API_KEY. A new apiKey.ts exchanges the key for an access token at POST /auth/exchange_user_api_key. This is the same exchange @cursor/sdk 1.0.38 performs before calling aiserver.v1 services.
Limits read DashboardService/GetCurrentPeriodUsage with that token.
History reads DashboardService/GetFilteredUsageEvents on api2.cursor.sh with the token as a bearer. The cursor.com dashboard endpoint used for CLI logins answers 401 for API-key tokens. The RPC returns the same usageEventsDisplay shape, so parsing, paging, caching and dedupe are unchanged.
Scan.CursorUsageAccounts.scan already received instances. It now reads each instance's CURSOR_API_KEY or its stored sign-in through readStoredCursorApiKey, an expiry-aware read of the credential store that doesn't load the SDK. When a key exists, it wins over the CLI and Keychain login, because it names the account the agent actually runs on. The CLI and Keychain paths are unchanged when no key exists. The history cache for an API key is keyed by a SHA-256 fingerprint of the key, so switching accounts never shows the previous account's records.
The original concern behind the guards still holds, because usage always comes from the key's own account and never from a CLI login that may belong to someone else. API keys only go to Cursor's default endpoint, matching the existing Keychain rule. A failed exchange becomes the existing generic error, which exposes no credential or response body. docs/user/usage.md is rewritten where it said Cursor usage needs a CLI login.
Scope and approval
This PR has no prior issue. It fixes one underlying bug: Cursor's usage readers don't accept the credential that T3's own Cursor sign-in stores. The reported symptom ("authed successfully but it just doesn't render") covers both the limits and the history views, and they're the two readers of that credential. The change stays inside packages/provider-cursor plus its tests and the user doc, with no contract, UI or settings changes. Web, desktop and mobile all read the same server snapshot and summary.
Verification
Failing tests first. Each fix lands after a commit with failing tests.
Limits.usageLimits.test.ts changes its API-key case to expect exchange, then usage. It failed with expected [] to deeply equal [...], because no request was made.
History.accountUsage.test.ts adds an API-key source test that failed with expected 'Cursor Keychain credentials could not…' to equal null. UsageService.test.ts replaces the row that asserted "needs a Cursor CLI login" for CURSOR_API_KEY. The new case expects an env key and a stored T3 sign-in to drive the scan, and it failed with expected [] to deeply equal [ { kind: 'apiKey', … } ].
Key change.does not show a previous Cursor account's history after the API key changes failed with expected true to be false before the fingerprinted cache key (from CodeRabbit's review).
Live Cursor API, real key. The fixed readers return 49 history records, matching the RPC's totalUsageEventsCount, with per-model tokens and cost. They also return the three limit windows. On main, limits return { windows: [], unavailable: { reason: "unsupported" } }.
Real client, stored sign-in. I seeded the dev server's credential store with the same StoredSdkCredentials JSON that Sign in with Cursor saves, and used no env key. Settings shows "Authenticated · Cursor account". The screenshots below come from that session, filtered to Cursor. The "before" Tokens view comes from the same session with only the history code reverted.
vp run check:changed passes on format, lint, knip and typecheck. Two UsageService tests fail on my macOS machine, discovers Pi history in its default home… and retains Codex reconciliation…. They fail the same way on main (a /private/var vs /var path mismatch), and this PR doesn't touch them.
Running the app also caught a bug that unit tests missed. The production scan context has no ProviderHost, so the scan now provides the one CursorUsageAccounts already holds. I couldn't click through Cursor's interactive browser sign-in, because this machine has no Cursor login for the OAuth flow. That flow ends by storing the credential I seeded.

Maintainer pass
Rebased onto main. exchangeCursorApiKey lost its endpoint parameter, since both callers only use Cursor's default endpoint.
The key exchange now times out after 10 seconds. Before, a stalled exchange started before the 60-second history timeout and could leave a usage refresh waiting indefinitely.
Keys for the same Cursor account, like two instances each signed in, now give one usage source. Before, sessions counted twice. The scan keeps a current read over another key's stale cache, and a refresh in progress over a failed key, so the client still follows up.
Each fix landed after a test that failed without it, in accountUsage.test.ts and UsageService.test.ts. vp run check:changed passes.
Live check on Linux with a real CURSOR_API_KEY: limits returned 3 windows and history returned the account's records. In the dev app, Settings shows Cursor authenticated with the API key, and Usage shows Cursor limits, tokens and cost.
Maintainer pass by claude-opus-5-5 in Claude Code.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Cursor usage limits now work with T3 sign-in and configured API keys. The credential exchange is restricted to Cursor's default endpoint and retains existing timeout and failure safeguards.

The scan accepts provider instances and uses each instance’s nonblank CURSOR_API_KEY, or its stored key when the environment value is blank or absent. It deduplicates keys and uses a SHA-256 fingerprint for API-key cache keys. The driver passes instances to the scan. Tests cover credential selection and account changes. Documentation describes usage sources and fallbacks.
Account-history lookup exchanges API keys for access tokens and uses those tokens for Cursor RPC usage-event requests. Tests check request authorization, parsed usage totals, and the exchange timeout. Other credential sources continue to use the dashboard endpoint with session-cookie authentication.
When no auth token is supplied, limits lookup exchanges an API key for an access token at the default endpoint. API-key lookup returns unsupported for a custom endpoint. Tests and documentation cover credential and endpoint behavior.
Usage can show incorrect limits or remain pending when credential reads stall; these narrow issues should be addressed or explicitly accepted.

Explanation
The description follows the repository template's main sections: Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification. It explains the bug, the fix, why the scope is limited, and what was verified. It also has focused tests, a failing-test-first sequence, live API results, and screenshots. The template asks for a conventional commit title, but the PR description contains no title, so this cannot be checked from the description. The author says interactive Cursor browser sign-in was not tested, and the template asks for untested items to be stated, which the author did. The template also asks for the agent model and harness. The author lists 'claude-opus-5-5 in Claude Code' and the sol-loop review. The description is detailed and specific, and it is mostly complete. The Scope section relies on the claim that no prior issue exists. The template allows a very small, focused fix of an obvious bug without a prior issue, and the author argues the change fits that case, though the change touches several files and adds a new key-exchange path, so a maintainer may question that argument.

This case uses a fake account reader and local files. It does not need wall-clock execution. Use it.effect and set TestClock to a fixed date that fits WINDOW. As per coding guidelines, “Use wall-clock tests only for subprocess or network fixtures.” The test path instruction requires changed tests to follow that rule. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Replace the wall-clock `it.live` test for reading the Cursor account with an
`it.effect` test, and set `TestClock` to a fixed date within `WINDOW`. Preserve
the existing fake account reader and local-file behavior.
T3's Cursor sign-in stores an SDK-minted API key, and the usage reader
treated any API key as unsupported, so limits never rendered. Exchange
the key for an access token the way the Cursor SDK does and read that
account's current-period usage.
Costs and Tokens read Cursor history only from a CLI or Keychain login,
so T3's own Cursor sign-in and CURSOR_API_KEY showed nothing. Read each
instance's API key first, exchange it for an access token, and fetch
the account's usage events from Cursor's RPC API, which accepts that
token where the web dashboard does not.
A replaced key could show the previous account's cached history while
the cache was fresh or while the new key kept failing. Also state that
CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN takes precedence for limits.

Use the API key's account for Cursor limits when both credentials are set.
74-91: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Use the API key's account for Cursor limits when both credentials are set.
When CURSOR_API_KEY and CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN are both set, readCursorUsageLimits skips the key exchange because the exchange runs only when !token && apiKey. It then reads limits with the auth token. The driver identifies the provider snapshot with CURSOR_API_KEY, so the limits attached to that snapshot can come from a different account.
The consequence appears when the two credentials belong to different Cursor accounts. The provider then shows one account's identity with another account's remaining quota.
The correction is to let an explicit CURSOR_API_KEY take precedence over CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN for limits, so limits match the account used by the status check. The endpoint rule needs a decision first. The key exchange is restricted to the default endpoint, so a naive removal of the !token guard would also reject users who set a token and a custom endpoint. No patch is proposed until that policy is defined.

Update readCursorUsageLimits so limits use the account associated with
CURSOR_API_KEY when both credentials are set, matching the provider snapshot
identity. Before changing the token-selection or exchange condition, establish
and implement the intended behavior for a configured API key with a custom
endpoint; preserve the existing endpoint restriction unless that policy is
explicitly resolved.
Bound both credential reads before starting the refresh.
291-309: Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win
Bound both credential reads before starting the refresh.
When an instance has no CURSOR_API_KEY, readStoredCursorApiKey waits on credentials.get without a timeout. Effect.forEach waits for that result before it creates any API-key account source. A stalled read can therefore block the Cursor usage scan.
The file-credential path has the same gap. Its existing 60-second timeout starts after the credential is read, so it does not bound fileSystem.readFileString. With awaitRefresh, a stalled read prevents the refresh from completing. Without it, the detached refresh remains pending and never updates the account cache.
Add local timeouts to both credential reads. A single outer timeout would only be sufficient if it covered both reads and the detached refresh lifetime.

Review comment at @packages/provider-cursor/src/server/CursorUsageAccounts.ts
around lines 291 - 309:
Bound both credential reads with local timeouts: ensure readStoredCursorApiKey’s
underlying credentials.get and the file-credential read inside accountSource
cannot remain pending indefinitely. Apply each timeout before refresh work
begins, preserving the existing fallback and error behavior; do not rely on an
outer timeout that may not cover detached refreshes.
CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN and CURSOR_API_KEY both set.CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN winning for limits is the precedence on main, where !token && CURSOR_API_KEY only short-circuited when no token was set. docs/user/usage.md documents it after the earlier thread. An explicit auth token is a deliberate override, and changing that precedence is a separate behavior change from this fix.
Unbounded credential reads. The instance credential store and auth.json are local reads. On main, the driver's status check (auth.readApiKey) and the CLI-login history path already read them without a timeout. The network step this PR adds, the key exchange, is bounded at 10 seconds in 9040bbd. Adding timeouts to local reads across Cursor's credential paths belongs in its own change.

* fix(web): play completion sounds without delay (pingdotgg#29146)
Completion alerts waited two seconds after the client received a completed thread state. Audio was also fetched and decoded only when an alert needed to play, adding a first-play delay.
Notify immediately when the thread shell reports completion, and preload both sounds when a user gesture unlocks audio. Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs.
This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place.
Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture. Audible timing has not been verified in a live client.

* fix(desktop): prepare macOS x64 bytecode under Rosetta (pingdotgg#29484)
* fix(server): keep PR watches active after host failures (pingdotgg#29450)
## Problem
PR watches stopped after eight failed host reads, so a prolonged network outage prevented later CI and review updates from reaching the thread.
## Change
Keep watches active after provider failures reported as `failed`. Read detail and activity concurrently without allowing an activity failure to cancel or hide a permanent detail failure. Repeated known permanent failures still stop the watch and notify the agent; rate limits still pause reads. Non-rate-limited GitHub HTTP 403 responses and GraphQL `FORBIDDEN` responses now use a distinct `forbidden` reason so access refusals are counted instead of retried indefinitely. GraphQL error types survive the client mapping, after the existing requested-reviewer fallback.
The provider's `failed` category also includes unclassified host and decode errors. Those continue retrying at the existing two-minute cadence until the watch ends or is stopped. A fixed outage deadline would recreate the recovery failure for longer outages.
## Scope and approval
This is a focused fix for an obvious bug in existing PR watch recovery, covered by the small bug-fix exception in CONTRIBUTING.md. The changes cover watcher recovery, a GitHub failure classification needed to preserve permanent-error handling, and their regression tests. The new server-side `forbidden` reason does not change RPC contracts or add settings.
## Verification
`vp run check:changed` passed, including 154 tests across five files. Regression coverage includes a 30-minute outage followed by one CI-success notification, mixed activity/detail failures, resetting a prior failure count, and repeated forbidden reads stopping the watch. Provider tests distinguish HTTP 403 and exclusively permanent GraphQL refusals from retryable HTTP 503 and mixed or untyped GraphQL errors. The mixed-failure and GraphQL classification cases failed before their fixes. Seven focused requested-reviewer fallback/refusal tests also pass.

Problem
After Settings > Providers > Cursor > Sign in with Cursor, Cursor shows as authenticated, but none of its usage appears. Limits are missing from Usage > Limits and the composer, and Cursor shows nothing on Usage > Cost and Usage > Tokens. Codex and Claude render normally. This was reported publicly: "i've authed successfully but it just doesn't render. chatgpt + claude usages are fine."
T3's Cursor sign-in stores the user API key that
@cursor/sdkmints. Both Cursor usage readers refuse that credential:readCursorUsageLimitsreturnedunsupportedfor anyCURSOR_API_KEY, without making a request.CursorUsageAccounts.scannever looked at the instances' credentials at all. It read only a Cursor CLI or Keychain login, and withCURSOR_API_KEYset it answered "Cursor account history needs a Cursor CLI login on this server." On macOS, a user who signed in through T3 only saw an Enable button asking for Keychain access to a CLI login they may not have.So the sign-in path T3 itself offers could never show Cursor usage. The same happened for a
CURSOR_API_KEYset in the instance's environment.Change
Both readers now use the API key from the instance's T3 sign-in or
CURSOR_API_KEY. A newapiKey.tsexchanges the key for an access token atPOST /auth/exchange_user_api_key. This is the same exchange@cursor/sdk1.0.38 performs before callingaiserver.v1services.DashboardService/GetCurrentPeriodUsagewith that token.DashboardService/GetFilteredUsageEventsonapi2.cursor.shwith the token as a bearer. Thecursor.comdashboard endpoint used for CLI logins answers 401 for API-key tokens. The RPC returns the sameusageEventsDisplayshape, so parsing, paging, caching and dedupe are unchanged.CursorUsageAccounts.scanalready receivedinstances. It now reads each instance'sCURSOR_API_KEYor its stored sign-in throughreadStoredCursorApiKey, an expiry-aware read of the credential store that doesn't load the SDK. A failed exchange becomes the existing generic error, which exposes no credential or response body.
docs/user/usage.mdis rewritten where it said Cursor usage needs a CLI login.Scope and approval
This PR has no prior issue. It fixes one underlying bug: Cursor's usage readers don't accept the credential that T3's own Cursor sign-in stores. The reported symptom ("authed successfully but it just doesn't render") covers both the limits and the history views, and they're the two readers of that credential. The change stays inside
packages/provider-cursorplus its tests and the user doc, with no contract, UI or settings changes. Web, desktop and mobile all read the same server snapshot and summary.Verification
usageLimits.test.tschanges its API-key case to expect exchange, then usage. It failed withexpected [] to deeply equal [...], because no request was made.accountUsage.test.tsadds an API-key source test that failed withexpected 'Cursor Keychain credentials could not…' to equal null.UsageService.test.tsreplaces the row that asserted "needs a Cursor CLI login" forCURSOR_API_KEY. The new case expects an env key and a stored T3 sign-in to drive the scan, and it failed withexpected [] to deeply equal [ { kind: 'apiKey', … } ].does not show a previous Cursor account's history after the API key changesfailed withexpected true to be falsebefore the fingerprinted cache key (from CodeRabbit's review).totalUsageEventsCount, with per-model tokens and cost. They also return the three limit windows. Onmain, limits return{ windows: [], unavailable: { reason: "unsupported" } }.StoredSdkCredentialsJSON that Sign in with Cursor saves, and used no env key. Settings shows "Authenticated · Cursor account". The screenshots below come from that session, filtered to Cursor. The "before" Tokens view comes from the same session with only the history code reverted.vp run check:changedpasses on format, lint, knip and typecheck. Two UsageService tests fail on my macOS machine, discovers Pi history in its default home…andretains Codex reconciliation…. They fail the same way onmain(a/private/varvs/varpath mismatch), and this PR doesn't touch them.Running the app also caught a bug that unit tests missed. The production scan context has no
ProviderHost, so the scan now provides the oneCursorUsageAccountsalready holds. I couldn't click through Cursor's interactive browser sign-in, because this machine has no Cursor login for the OAuth flow. That flow ends by storing the credential I seeded.Maintainer pass
main.exchangeCursorApiKeylost its endpoint parameter, since both callers only use Cursor's default endpoint.accountUsage.test.tsandUsageService.test.ts.vp run check:changedpasses.CURSOR_API_KEY: limits returned 3 windows and history returned the account's records. In the dev app, Settings shows Cursor authenticated with the API key, and Usage shows Cursor limits, tokens and cost.Maintainer pass by
