fix(web): settings descriptions use the full row and stay two lines - #31826
Settings descriptions wrapped far too early. A description slightly longer than one line split into two half-width lines, leaving a big empty gap before the switch. On smaller windows, every Labs row ran to 3–5 lines. Two things caused it in SettingsRow:
The control column was always at least 10rem, even for a 36px switch, which took about 120px from the text.
Some descriptions were also just too long. "Tool calls in chat" (#30000) was 251 characters and took 3 lines even on a wide window.
Fix
Descriptions use text-pretty, so lines fill the column and only the end is adjusted to avoid a lone last word.
The control column sizes to its control. Dropdowns keep their old 160px minimum, so their size and alignment don't change.
New lint rule t3code/max-settings-description-length caps a SettingsRow description at 200 characters of static text, including link text. The column holds about 110 characters per line next to a dropdown, so 200 stays two lines at normal window widths.
Shortened the five descriptions over the cap: Tool calls in chat, Guest links, Linked environments, transcript cleanup in Voice, and the reclaim-database-space notice. Mobile copies of the same text are updated to match.
Validation
Measured every settings row on every settings page in a headless browser at 1440px and 900px, with the old and new grid. No control changed size.
At 900px, the Labs description column grows from 324px to 454px.
Rule tests cover a short string, a long string, long JSX with link text, and dynamic text that isn't counted. Running it on apps/web/src reports nothing.

Settings descriptions used text-balance and a 10rem minimum control
column, so long copy wrapped into narrow half-width lines.
Descriptions now use text-pretty, the control column sizes to its
content (dropdowns keep their 160px minimum), and a new
t3code/max-settings-description-length lint rule caps SettingsRow
descriptions at 200 characters of static text. The five descriptions
over the cap are shortened, with mobile copies kept in sync.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This change improves settings-description spacing, shortens copy, and enforces a description-length limit through linting. It leaves settings behavior and product defaults unchanged, with risk limited to presentation and development feedback.

Settings descriptions and row layout changed across mobile and web. The Oxlint plugin gained a rule that checks static text in web SettingsRow descriptions against a 200-character limit.
The Oxlint plugin registers a rule that checks static SettingsRow description text against a 200-character limit. Tests cover static and dynamic text, and the web lint configuration enables the rule as an error.
This PR tightens settings description wrapping and adds a lint cap on description length. The only remaining issue is that the voice cleanup description can name the wrong provider for transcript text. That is a small copy fix that does not block merge.

Describe the cleanup provider accurately.
A dedicated cleanup model can use a different provider. An unavailable or exhausted provider can also trigger another fallback.

… (Linting fork code)
Failing check: Linting fork code
"Linting fork code" failed on one error. In `apps/web/src/fork/switchboard/SwitchboardSettingsRow.tsx:29`, the Switchboard settings row has a description with 216 characters of fixed text, and the limit is 200.
The limit comes from a new upstream lint rule, `t3code/max-settings-description-length`, added in pingdotgg#31826 ("settings descriptions use the full row and stay two lines"). Loom's copy hasn't changed; upstream started enforcing a length on it. The rule only counts fixed text, so the status note added on the end wasn't part of the 216.
The file is fork-owned, so I shortened the copy there and changed nothing upstream. The main description now reads "Send Claude and Codex through this environment's Switchboard hub, which picks the account per request. The picker shows one Claude and one Codex. Running sessions keep their route." I dropped "New sessions use the change" because "Running sessions keep their route" already implies it. The rule doesn't count the "no controller configured" note, but it would still have made the row run long, so I shortened it too. It still names `LOOM_SWITCHBOARD_CONTROLLER_URL`. No test checks this row's text; the picker test checks a separate string that I didn't touch. The rerun of `check_fork_lint` now passes (exit 0), and this file is the only change.

… (Linting upstream files the fork edits)
Failing check: Linting upstream files the fork edits
"Linting upstream files the fork edits" failed on five `SettingsRow` descriptions in `apps/web/src/components/settings/StorageSettings.tsx` (lines 698, 718, 946, 958 and 972). They ran 203 to 306 characters.
The cause is a lint rule upstream added in this merge (pingdotgg#31826, "settings descriptions use the full row and stay two lines"). It caps `SettingsRow` descriptions at 200 characters. All five descriptions are fork copy inside `fork: project-lifecycle` and `fork: project-checkout-management` blocks, so the fork's text had to change. No upstream code is involved.
I shortened each description to under 200 characters, keeping the facts users need and cutting restatements. No tests assert on these strings, and no fork markers or `docs/fork/seams.tsv` rows changed. `pnpm exec vp lint` on the file now shows no errors and the format check passes. The same lint output also carries a warning in `apps/mobile/src/features/threads/UsageLimitRecoveryCard.tsx` (`Button` is not defined). It's only a warning and didn't fail the check, so I left it alone.
