Threads waiting for an answer cannot currently be snoozed. Allow an explicit snooze to defer an existing input request while leaving the question pending and answerable. A newer question still wakes the thread; answering or manually waking it clears snooze. Approvals, subagent requests, and queued starts retain their guards.

Keep web/desktop, mobile, agent reads, and optimistic remote state consistent. Blocking requests retain priority over deferred questions, including when newer secret or link cards arrive.

Verification at cb51738a147859435c1f2d1c5b97584e449015da, merged with main 61c3794c32 without changing the PR's behavior:

  • CI=true vp run check:changed origin/main passed format, lint, GraphQL, knip, nine package typechecks, 418 tests across 13 files, and React compiler checks.
  • Focused PR tests: 375 passed across 10 files.
  • Fresh independent review approved the complete diff with no actionable findings; reviewer independently passed 18 tests across six files.
  • Real-client Replay verification on this exact head: snooze, reload, menu Wake, re-snooze, and answer all passed. CLI receipts confirm the pending request survives snooze/reload/wake, and answering completes the run with zero pending requests and snooze cleared.
  • Web preview with synthetic data; native mobile, Electron shell, paid providers, scheduled expiry, and remote/relay/tunnel clients were not exercised. Banner Wake was not independently verified.

Before — main 61c3794c32 disables Snooze with pending input:

Before: pending question disables Snooze

After — candidate cb51738a14 snoozes, reloads, wakes, re-snoozes, and answers the same question. GIF is 4× speed at 8 fps; the MP4 preserves real time. Different disposable thread titles appear in the base and candidate captures.

After: snooze, reload, wake, re-snooze, and answer

Complete candidate menu detail:

Enabled Snooze action in the thread menu

All eight published evidence downloads returned HTTP 200 and matched the local captures byte-for-byte. Evidence-only release tag is a hosting anchor; the captured source is cb51738a14. Rendered GitHub playback has not been independently checked.

Continues the original work by SAPHID and maria-rcks; their commits and authorship are preserved.

Walkthrough

Threads with pending user-input requests can now be snoozed without clearing the request. Client and server timestamp checks determine whether existing input stays deferred or newer input wakes the thread. Pending approvals and other blocked request types retain separate handling.

Changes: Pending input snooze behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Client snooze state and decisions
packages/client-runtime/src/state/models.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/threadSettled.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/threadCommands.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/threadCommands.test.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/threadSnoozed.test.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/entities.test.ts
The client shell exposes the pending user-input timestamp. Snoozing retains pending input, and timestamp checks determine whether input wakes a snoozed thread. Tests cover snooze behavior and wake events.
Server snooze and wake checks
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ThreadSettlementService.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ThreadSettlementService.test.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/runtimeLayer.test.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProjectionStore.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProjectionSettlement.test.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.control-reads.test.ts
The server permits pending user-input requests during snoozing and unsnoozes a thread after a completed user-input response. Settlement checks use request kind and creation time. Projections prioritize non-user-input requests.
Mobile snooze eligibility and guidance
apps/mobile/src/features/home/useThreadListActions.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/threadListV2.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/threadListV2.test.ts, docs/user/thread-sidebar.md
The mobile thread list permits snoozing threads with pending user input and includes them in the snoozed shelf count. The documentation describes deferred questions and wake behavior.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProjectionSettlement.test.ts: Adds the OrchestrationV2RuntimeRequest type import for the new runtime-request test.
  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProjectionSettlement.test.ts: Adds isSnoozed to the settlement-service imports alongside the existing settlement helpers.
  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProjectionSettlement.test.ts: Adds a test run against both SQL and memory stores. It creates a snoozed thread, verifies the newest pending request is selected in both shell and thread projections, and checks that pending approvals wake the thread regardless of whether their creation time predates the snooze. Resolving the newer approval retains the older pending approval; resolving that approval restores the pending question and snoozed state.
  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/mobile/src/features/home/useThreadListActions.ts: The snooze-blocking condition no longer checks hasPendingUserInput; pending approvals or a pending subagent request still trigger the “waiting on you” alert.

Investigated the Test Server 2 failure on 7e2d2d5. All eight failures were in providerCompatibility.test.ts: the CI merge included the v0.1.0 release bump, while those test policies were restricted to <0.1.0. The aggregate Check failure came from that shard.

Merged current main in 5d66518, including the upstream fixture repair in #20068 (4d01315273). All 227 focused tests now pass, including the compatibility suite, plus five snooze lifecycle tests. Mobile typecheck and targeted lint also pass. The PR diff remains scoped to the snooze fix; no separate compatibility change was added.

All three existing correctness findings are resolved. Native verification remains blocked by disabled agent device access, as documented in the PR.

Integrated main d36b7da2485bc889b320a285deea181f637d760a in 42c52b6e26716ac4b2b25944e2b8c0e7e0877b86 with a normal descendant push. Existing questions can be snoozed across web/desktop/mobile while approvals and newer questions still wake the thread. Preserved main’s nonblocking-input presentation, secret-request priority, and rule that background run completion does not wake snoozed work. Added shared regressions for blocking/nonblocking source questions and approval visibility. 209 server/shared tests, 104 mobile logic tests, and 43 final shared snooze tests pass; targeted lint passes. Imported ACP type diagnostics remain.

Focused tests: 209 passed (209); exit 0. Focused mobile-tests: 104 passed (104); exit 0. Targeted lint exit 0. Focused typecheck exit 1. Fixed the verified follow-up review findings in 339279d6eda4d689ed264cad147fc20509bb6c39 with a guarded normal descendant push. Verified finding 4324501784: a non-cancelled live user-input answer now emits thread.unsnoozed before the response effect, consistent with message-mode answers. Cancelling a question and answering an approval preserve the snooze fields. Updated the exact stale entities.test.ts assertion reported by CI job 118602511983 to the PR’s intended question-snooze policy, and clarified user guidance. All 117 focused control-read, client presentation, snooze, and settlement tests pass; targeted lint and formatting pass. Scoped types still show only the imported cached ACP API diagnostics. Native evidence remains a maintainer gate.

Focused tests: 209 passed (209); exit 0. Focused mobile-tests: 104 passed (104); exit 0. Targeted lint exit 0. Scoped typecheck exit 1. Diagnostics: packages/provider-acp/src/server/AcpSessionRuntime.ts(1334,29): error TS2339: Property 'signal' does not exist on type 'AcpProcessExitedError'.; packages/provider-acp/src/server/AcpSessionRuntime.ts(1334,68): error TS2339: Property 'signal' does not exist on type 'AcpProcessExitedError'.; packages/provider-acp/src/server/adapter.ts(3302,49): error TS2339: Property 'error' does not exist on type '{ readonly sessionUpdate: "state_update"; readonly state: "idle"; readonly stopReason?: string | null; readonly usage?: Usage | null; readonly _meta?: Meta; }'.; packages/provider-acp/src/server/adapter.ts(4449,32): error TS2339: Property 'error' does not exist on type '{ readonly sessionUpdate: "state_update"; readonly state: "idle"; readonly stopReason?: string | null; readonly usage?: Usage | null; readonly _meta?: Meta; }'.; packages/provider-acp/src/server/adapter.ts(4450,40): error TS2339: Property 'error' does not exist on type '{ readonly sessionUpdate: "state_update"; readonly state: "idle"; readonly stopReason?: string | null; readonly usage?: Usage | null; readonly _meta?: Meta; }'.; packages/provider-acp/src/server/adapter.ts(4451,30): error TS2339: Property 'error' does not exist on type '{ readonly sessionUpdate: "state_update"; readonly state: "idle"; readonly stopReason?: string | null; readonly usage?: Usage | null; readonly _meta?: Meta; }'. this changes product behavior and needs prior approval under establish the problem and scope first. the server and clients currently reject snoozing pending input; this patch removes that guard for user-input requests and adds timestamp-based rules for deferring existing questions and waking on newer ones. that introduces an ask-me-later workflow rather than repairing an implementation that fails to follow the existing snooze policy. the PR supplies no explicit maintainer approval of that direction. discuss and obtain approval for pending-question snooze and wake semantics, then request reconsideration with evidence for the agreed scope. the need to defer a question remains useful feedback.

verified head 3449c52138c41b2aa3134af03fbdff187a194126. merged current main without rebasing and preserved both snooze behavior and main's dismissal of older secret/link cards after user messages. fixed the remaining overlap: newer secret/link input now takes precedence over an older blocking question, while approvals retain priority. extended the existing projection case for live and message questions; the live case failed before the fix.

blacksmith vp run check:changed github/main passes format, lint, knip, graphql generation, nine package typechecks, 407 focused tests, and seven compiler checks. two independent reviews approve this exact head. git.cafe reports 32 successful checks, zero pending, zero failing, and no conflicts. no unresolved review threads remain. pushed to the original contributor branch without force.

playwright with /usr/bin/google-chrome exercised the actual replay provider and web client: snooze preserved the question, reload preserved snooze, manual wake preserved the answerable question, and answering after re-snoozing cleared snooze and completed the provider turn. inspected the captures and verified uploaded video playback and seeking.

native mobile, electron, remote/relay/tunnel, other providers, and live secret/link UI were not exercised in this pass. secret/link projection and answer behavior passed existing server tests.
