feat(mobile): start side chats with /side - #31709
Mobile could list and open side chats started on web or desktop, but couldn't start one.
Typing /side <question> (or /btw) in the thread composer and sending now forks the thread into a side chat, sends the question there, and opens it the way other linked threads open: in the inspector on iPad, as a new page on a phone. The new side chat appears in the thread's existing "Side chats" row.
When it's offered: the composer offers /side and /btw only where a side chat can start, using web's rules:
not from a side chat or a subagent;
not before the thread's first message, or while its worktree is being set up;
only on a server that supports side chats.
Typed anyway, an alert says why it can't start.
Text only: as on web, side chats take no attachments or context.
The question is required on mobile. Web can open an empty side chat in a tab and delete it when the tab closes. On a phone an empty one would stay in the "Side chats" row.
Shared parser: the /side parser moves from web to @t3tools/shared/composerTrigger, so both clients read the command the same way. Web's behavior doesn't change.
Test: a new case in thread-task-permissions.test.ts shows /side <question> starting a side chat instead of being sent to the thread. It fails on main.
Checked on device: iPad Pro 13" simulator (iOS 27.2), with a free Replay (dev) thread in a scratch repo.
Not checked: the phone flow (installing the app on the leased iPhone kept hanging) and Android. Both use the same composer and send code, and the side chat opens through the same useOpenLinkedThread that the "Side chats" row already uses.
The composer offers /side once you type /s:
After sending, the side chat opens in the inspector with the question sent, and the parent shows the new "Side chats" row:

Mobile listed and opened side chats started on web or desktop, but could
not start one. `/side <question>` (or `/btw`) in the thread composer now
forks the thread into a side chat, sends the question there, and opens it
like any linked thread: in the inspector on iPad, pushed on a phone.
The composer offers `/side` and `/btw` only where a side chat can start,
with web's rules: not from a side chat or a subagent, not before the
thread's first message or while its worktree is set up, and only on a
server that supports side chats. Typed anyway, the reason shows in an
alert. Side chats take text only. Unlike web, the question is required,
since an empty side chat on a phone would linger in the side chats row.
The `/side` parser moves to `@t3tools/shared/composerTrigger` so web and
mobile read the command the same way.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Adds mobile /side and /btw commands through the existing side-chat APIs, with availability checks and guarded cleanup of failed starts. The feature is explicitly invoked and leaves ordinary messaging and product defaults unchanged.

The mobile thread composer now offers /side and /btw when side chats are available. Submitting a valid command forks a side chat, sends the prompt as its first turn, and opens the linked thread. Command parsing is provided by the shared composer trigger module.
The shared module parses whole-message /side and /btw commands. The mobile command menu offers them when enabled, and screen props control availability. Web send logic imports the shared parser, and its former local implementation and parsing tests are removed.
The composer checks availability and prompt constraints before starting a side chat. It prevents normal message dispatch for the command, tracks concurrent starts, and clears unchanged draft text after success. Tests cover dispatch and draft handling and update existing composer setups.
Create and open the side chat apps/mobile/src/features/threads/useStartSideChat.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/threadForkNavigation.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadFeed.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadRouteScreen.tsx
The start hook forks a side chat, waits for its shell, sends the prompt, and opens the linked thread. The shell readiness helper now accepts a scoped thread reference.

Add a temporary side chat like Codex /side #26454: The change adds /side and /btw as mobile entry points for side chats, relating to the request for command-based access to a separate context-aware side chat.

The mobile composer can offer /side and /btw while a queued edit or pending approval is active. Selecting the command there sends the text as an edit or as approval feedback instead of starting a side chat. The impact is limited to a narrow edge case, and the fix is a small gating change.
